Chapter Five
Rosa's POV At the office today, I was promoted to the position of a Manager. I felt happy hearing those words. Manager of Nulec Company. My heart raced with excitement, and I couldn't help but whisper to myself, “Wow, I’m the new Manager of Nulec Company.” But even this achievement couldn’t silence the storm in my mind. I decided I needed a vacation—not just to celebrate, but to escape the constant threats I’d been receiving from an unknown caller. A part of me hoped the break would help clear my head and give me the courage to see my son, David, after two long years. As much as I loved Donald, the man I was about to marry, I couldn’t shake the fear of losing him if he ever found out about David. My heart ached at the thought of jeopardizing our wedding ceremony, yet I kept telling myself it was for the best—for now. I called Donald to inform him about the promotion despite I'm still furthering my education. Donald was happy for me and called me a lucky champ. "You deserved it babe!" Donald said joyfully. " I'm going on a vacation babe, I will spend two days." He congratulated me and wish me a save trip. At the airport, something unexpected happened. I met a woman who seemed to carry a heavy burden, just like me. Her name was Rose. Funny, isn’t it? I’m Rosa, and she’s Rose. “Hey, nice meeting you,” Rose said, her laughter loud and infectious, though it didn’t quite mask the sadness in her eyes. “You too,” I replied, smiling. Rose in her late forty, chubby and beautiful in and out the few time we spent with each other. She told me a lot about marriage and what she is going through presently. She married a very rich man but there's no happiness in her home even after giving birth to a child for her husband. “Marriage is no easy task,” she said suddenly, her tone shifting. “My husband beats me like I’m some punching bag. I’m so tired of it all. Honestly, I’m not even sure why I stay.” Her words hung in the air, heavy and unsettling. I wanted to comfort her but didn’t know how. “I’m about to get married,” I said cautiously. “Donald isn’t like that. He’s... he’s a good man. The kind of man every woman dreams of marrying.” Rose gave me a knowing look, her expression tinged with skepticism. “If you say so, Rosa. Just... be careful.” We exchanged numbers after the flight and went our separate ways, her words echoing in my mind. On my way to see the woman who had been caring for David, memories from my past crept in, pulling me into a dark place I had tried to forget. “Rosa!” my stepmother’s voice thundered through the house. “You wicked girl! Come here and wash these things for me. And make sure you clean every corner of this house! Rubbish!” I jumped at her command, rushing to do everything she demanded. But it was never enough. When she returned from wherever she went, she beat me mercilessly, the pain and humiliation sinking deeper into my soul each time. One day, I couldn’t take it anymore. I ran out of the house with nothing but the clothes I had on. My father never came looking for me, and my stepmother probably didn’t care. Life on the streets was brutal, and it wasn’t long before I found myself pregnant because I was raped severally on the street. At twenty, I gave birth to my son, David—my handsome, precious boy. He was the one bright light in my dark world. But I knew I couldn’t give him the life he deserved while struggling to survive. I left him in the care of a kind woman—a woman I believed was sent by God—so I could go back to school and start working. Every month, I sent money for David’s upkeep, pouring all my love and hope into my future. Then, by luck, I landed a job at Nulec Company and met a handsome CEO of Hilly's company. He saw something in me that I hadn’t seen in myself for a long time. I knew I couldn’t let this opportunity slip through my fingers. “Madam, we’re here,” the driver’s voice snapped me back to the present. “Oh, okay,” I replied, pretending I had been paying attention. When we arrived at the house, my heart pounded in my chest. The door opened, and there he was—my David. “Hey, Ma’am!” he said, his face lighting up with a smile that could melt the hardest of hearts. Before I could respond, he ran to me, wrapping his little arms tightly around my waist. “I missed you, Ma’am!” he said, his voice full of joy. Tears welled up in my eyes as I held him close. “I missed you too, my sweet boy,” I whispered, my heart aching with both love and guilt. "It's your birthday David, I got a lot of things for you and grandma." For a moment, the chaos of my life faded away, and all that mattered was the warmth of my son’s embrace who doesn't know I'm his real mom.Rosa's POV The following day, I found myself sitting across from Grandma Hanns, deep in conversation. I needed her comfort more than I knew, and her wise, weathered face gave it to me. David was playing close by, and I let myself unwind for a little while as his little giggles filled the air like music. Despite everything that was going on in my life, his innocence reminded me that I had something innocent to keep safe. "After everything I have been through, I can not believe I have such a handsome baby," I thought as I looked at him, smiling. Just behind it a bitter thought crept in. Funny enough, I do not know who his biological father is. I am appreciative of my good health, though. If nothing else, there is no HIV. Even though I tried not to think about it, it still bothered me. What if it had been different? What if I wasn’t healthy? What would my life look like then? Grandma’s soft voice brought me back to the present. “Rosa,” she called sharply, her tone laced with concern
Donald's POV I sat on my couch scanning my sitting room, meditating on Rosa's recent behaviors. Suddenly, my phone rang. My thumb moved quickly to the answer button after seeing who the caller was, Mr. Brian, my new business partner. “Hello, Mr. Donald, what about the business deal?” I looked at myself and thought about my family's reputation for a while. “Business deal? Well, I'm not in the right frame of mind now”. I was lost in a thought; if I reject the offer, my family's company will lose the deal. What should I do? “Hello! Hello! Are you still with me? I heard Mr.Brian call out to me at the other end of the line. His voice woke me from my thought. “Sorry for taking time to reply. I was trying to put things in order over here. I replied, trying to buy time in order to have a rethink about the deal. Mr. Brian replied, “Are you still interested? Many companies have sent their proposals for this same deal”. My eyes quickly opened wide, my chest pounding. I was confused.
Rosa's POV My mouth dropped when I read the contents of the document Donald gave me to preview. It appeared so real, even though it was somewhat confusing. Considering that electric vehicles are new to the market, I believe the stated amount is reasonable for a global production company, but there is a problem. I spent two hours in Donald's room trying to figure it out. I reached over and picked up the phone, dialing the number of an old classmate who excels at business. "Hey, Cade," I cackled, "you did not bother calling me after we finished school." "Yeah! How have you been, my love? I truly miss you. I am sorry about that. You caused it by not loving me at the time. A CEO is your fiancé, correct? One of the reasons I stopped contacting you was because I learned about it. I think he is in a noisy place. "Will you please find somewhere quiet?" We need to talk. I had no idea As soon as I got out of bed, my eyes darted over the screen, taking in the information with acute fo
Rosa’s POV “He actually called me back.” I muttered, pacing Donald's room. “Why is he bothering me, Cade? I don’t think he’s being paid to turn on me, but why can’t he see things from different angles? He’s so good at analyzing business deals, yet something about this one feels… off. I can’t even verify it myself.” As the phone buzzed in my hand, I sighed and reluctantly answered. “Rosa, you didn’t let me finish when I called earlier. You hung up on me.” His voice held a quiet disappointment, but I could tell he was trying to stay calm. “I’m sorry,” I lied smoothly. “I didn’t mean to hang up on you. The connection was bad, and I couldn’t hear you clearly.” A pause. Then, he chuckled lightly. “No problem. Hey, girl, I was just teasing when I called earlier. You take things way too seriously sometimes.” I rolled my eyes, despite myself. “You haven’t stopped with your antics, have you? Anyway, what’s the real reason you called?” We both chuckled, but his tone shifted as he
Donald POV"I said it was complicated." I scowled at Rosa. "At this time, I am in pain and have nothing to share with you. I must be left alone. Her expression is so solemn. There was nothing she could say. She prepared to depart after gathering her belongings. Then I realize that I will miss this lovely and wise woman for the rest of my life if I let her go.She appeared unhappy and disappointed. It is necessary for her to suppress a smile. I pulled her back as she was on the verge of leaving. Even though she was frowning, her face still looked lovely. "Hey sweetie!" I gave her a smile while extending my hands. The best thing that has ever happened to me is you, so I apologize. I cherish you, angel. Tears trickled down her smooth cheeks as she turned around. I am so excited to give my angel a hug. I gave her a tight hug, and we both held on to each other. Even when she is furious, she is stunning. I said to her, "You know what?" I am grinning, but I do not really smile. Because I app
Donald's POV I remembered Mom's message after having a great time with my friends. I reached for my car keys and phone, picked them up gently, and hurried into my limousine. A few hours later, I am standing in front of my father's house. I was promptly received by my dad's butler. "Greetings, Mr. Donald." The butler welcomed me. The glittering floor, chandelier, and gorgeous sighting flowers reminded me of the past. I recalled the times we spent playing in the garden. The chief cook, the janitors, and a large number of my dad's employees greeted me as I entered the grand building. Looking at the beautiful portrait of my dad, mom, myself, and other family members, my gorgeous mom stepped in through a lobby. "Donald, I know you will honor my invitation." She said politely with a smile on her face. My dad gave me a handshake and hugged me tightly when he came in. A few minutes later, the table was set for the lunch because it was already afternoon. My mum, dad, my sister Ver
Rosa's POV Whoa! Mr. Donald, the CEO of Hilly's business, which is ranked as the second-best city A, and I are getting married. It is unbelievable that this is finally happening. I have been waiting my entire life for this dream to come true. I went shopping today with Lilian and Evelyn, my closest friends. As we went through the shelves and racks, selecting everything we would need for the event, the excitement was intense. We purchased a lot of items, including wedding shoes and accessories. My wedding gown was the day's high point—it was amazing! is more than just a wedding dress. It was no ordinary gown. The top designer in City A created it. Crafted from the finest silk, the gown is embellished with genuine pearls and crystals that gleam with each step. When I tried it on, my figure was flawlessly displayed by the lovely lace appliances and sweetheart neckline. The back view, which was framed with glistening beadwork that added an element of allure, looked captivating as
Chapter Thirteen: Wedding day ClutterI screamed in panic as I froze, fear gripping me. "Stop! Stop right now! Please do not continue!"The tires screeched against the pavement as the driver rapidly applied the brakes and quickly reversed back. I leaned forward, trying to take in what had just happened, my breath shallow, my heart racing.I did not recognize the car in front of us, the one shining with ribbons and flowers, as the real wedding car until we were safely a few feet back. It is exquisitely decorated and embodies joy and celebration.Conversely, our car was plain and unassuming ___, just what Donald had wanted. When I saw the car in front of us, I became envious and began to question everything about our hasty wedding today. The car was not decorated, but my outfit was worth millions of dollars. With a serene and nearly different expression than usual, I looked at Lilian, who was seated next to me. She appeared unfazed by anything. The other car was so meticulously decorate
Chapter Thirty One:Rosa’s POVThe scent of gasoline and dust reminds me of this city, not just the beauty, but the way I was treated badly. Now, they will regret their actions. They will see how wealthier, more powerful the wife of Donald Ronald, CEO of Hilly's company. The billionaire herself is. I was stepping back into my past with power.“Aha hah!” I chuckled, the sound echoed. My bodyguards glanced at me with surprise. I could tell they were wondering why I laughed.Cruising round the streets with my sleek red SUV car. My bodyguards and the driver seated in the front. The bodyguards eyes viewing like sparrows. A little smile on my face as I was staring at the city. A voice snapped me back to reality.“Madam, we are now in the main city, where are we going?” He asked with a calm tone. “Yes, I know we are. We need to use a restaurant. You can pack at a good and luxurious restaurant when you see one.” I replied firmly. My heart unwavering, whoever dares me or crosses my part wi
Rosa's POV“Hi babe!” I waited for response but he didn't answer. He didn't pick his call either. I just have to say “Hi” like he has picked already. Standing at the center of my decorated room, my silk robe wrapped round my shoulder and I clutched my phone tighter. The furniture, the chandelier and the velvet curtains swaying slightly from the cool breeze. Everything looks perfect but I still feel something is wrong. My eyes gazed round the room, flickering round my bed, I called his name, Donald but silence greeted me instead. A silent voice pressed against my skin like an unfamiliar presence in my room.My pulse fastened, where could he be? Why didn't he answer my calls?Suddenly I felt a touch on my back, turning back to know who that is, he gave me a sweet kiss. It wasn't funny, “who has this gurt?” I exclaimed.I quickly drew myself back, “Oh, babe, you scared me.” “Don't do that again please!” I said With a smirk and pointed at him jokingly.“As it pleases the madam herself” We

The Miller's are always jealous of my family. Is Rodriguez and the detective trying to lie against my mom? I pondered. As I was thinking, my phone rang. I'm driving, I can't pick call at the moment. Donald's POVMy dad refused to accept such information. My woman is incapable of involving herself in such an abominable act. “Ask your wife very well, I believe she should be able to tell you people who are after her life. It is not my precious wife”. He tightened his lower mandible, he shook his head when saying that. His tone was low but firm. “She is not your biological mother, but she had played a mother role since your mom died. Is this how you want to pay her back?” His voice lowered but he felt disappointed.Dad's words made me felt bad.I was confused, dad has never spoken to me in this manner. Donald's POV“Believe it or not is your mom, Mrs. Ronald.” This echoed in my head like a death sentence.I stood up from the chair, my head ached. My heart frozen, my fingers shivering. The cool breeze outside couldn't quench the hotness inside of me. “I can't believe this, it can't be my mom. My precious mother, who birth me, raised me, who built this establishment with my father is now against my wife and indirectly after me.” I pondered all day, trying not accept this. The detective should be able to find the right person involved. Rodriguez should be wrong this time.Facing reality, my mom doesn't like Rosa but not to the extent of plotting her death. My mom is incapable of hurting a fly. Rosa came outside, limping gently towards my direction. I can't tell her this news. How will she feel? Her mother-in-law wanted her to die. No, I can't. I won't inform her. She quickly lifted her laptop like someone who remembered an important document, she started checking mails. Looking at her precious face, intelligent and beautiful in and out. “You told me we are going to a safe house, what the hell is this place called?” I questioned, I have been asking since and no reply.Donald sat quietly beside me, staring at his phone. The driver drove very fast, his eyes focused on the road. After a quiet moment he responded, “Calm down I can't hurt you. I'm I not your husband? When we arrived, you are going to see the place when we get there.” He said, and continue with what he was doing. I built it for a situation like this. I can't lose you mistakenly, if I do, I won't be able to forgive myself.” He continued and felt bad for questioning him.I kept looking at him, “I know you are trying to save me from danger.
