CHLOE Pov:

“Hey.” I greeted as soon as the door was opened after a few knocks and standing right before me, was Kate’s father.

He looked at me with a look of surprise on his face, as if he was shocked to see me and although I had deduced that it must be because he never expected my visit, his looks said otherwise.

“You are alive.” He said and from his tone, I could tell he was relieved but it only got me wondering what had happened. Did they think I was dead? Why would they do that?

Before I had a chance to speak, he pulled me into an embrace and his sweet scent, filled my nostrils. It reminded me of freshly baked cookies and I knew at once that it probably was because he was baking before I interrupted him.

Other than being a trained soldier, her father was also a good cook. He knew how to bake and was always ready to prepare both our favorite dishes when we were younger.
