Cattleya’s POV
Bang! A gunshot reverberated across the room in an instant. It gave me chills to think that someone might shoot me and I'd die.
I felt like I could pass out at any time.
When I turned around, I saw the man, bloodily, lying on the floor with his eyes open.
Jaxon covered my eyes with his palm. "Don't stare at him."
I stared at Jaxon in horror, my hands trembling, but somehow I managed to stay calm.
He took me outside and called someone on his phone. "I have a job for you," he said, glancing at me.
He walked back inside and continued talking. I still don't know what I've gotten myself into. It felt like I put myself in danger with the most dangerous man.
He'd killed someone right in front of me without even flinching.
He stood there, staring at the dead body like it was nothing to him.
When he came back, he said, "We need to get out of here. No one should see you."
I gasped softly. "But what about the..."
"Don't worry about him," he cut in. "My men will clean him up."
He grabbed my wrist tightly and escorted me to his tinted black car.
My heart pounded in my chest, threatening to burst.
I glanced at him, took a deep breath, and thought to myself, "This is the price of seducing the devil mafia lord."
There has been no resolution to the mystery surrounding my twin sister's death, and now my own actions have put me in danger's way.
What should I do?
Do I have to save this moment to ask him who's my twin sister's killer?
I looked away as soon as he looked at me because, damn, his presence made me tense all over.
"You okay?" he asked quickly as his gaze went back to the road.
"Do you think I'm fine?" I let out a soft sigh and put my palm to my face. "Don't worry, I'm not going to tell anyone what you did earlier. Please let me go; I promise not to tell anyone."
He laughed and then said, "Why would I let you go? You know something about me, the real me. I'm not sure where you got that information, but I need to keep my public picture safe. I'm not going to let this go and let you ruin me."
I gave him a frown and told him, "I'm not going to do that, okay? I'm only looking for the person who killed my sister."
"That's why you led me to your trap, right? I guess you forget who I am, Cattleya. Before I start looking for you, I have the connections. Your true motives towards me were crystal clear before I even thought of coming across you. So, how do you know so much about me? huh?"
I pursed my lips because I didn't want anyone else to die. The private investigator's name has to stay secret, or this crazy, dangerous man will kill him with the snap of his finger.
I glared at him, “I don’t know what you’re talking about. Or maybe you forgot who I am, I am Cattleya Sullivan, the heiress! So, if you do something to me, you’re going to jail…”
He slammed on the brakes abruptly, causing me to gasp in shock as I lurched forward.
I rolled my eyes and glared at him. "If you know anything about my sister's death, I'm willing to negotiate. You're a dangerous man, I know that. You kill people, you're a mafia lord, you do illegal things. But I have money, a lot of money, that could cover your entire month of illegal activities. So, maybe we can make a deal, right?"
He smirked evilly, chuckling softly as if I were some kind of clown to him.
He leaned in and whispered, "Do you think I need your money?"
I could barely breathe properly as he leaned impossibly close. His breath tickled my lips.
I leaned back, but he leaned forward, keeping his face mere inches away.
My eyes widened in alarm as I stared at him in nervousness. "W-What are you doing?"
"Just getting a closer look at your face, Cattleya Sullivan," he murmured, a hint of amusement dancing in his eyes. "It would be a shame to..." He trailed off, his finger tracing a slow path down your cheek. "...damage something so beautiful."
"Can you move away?" I ask as I try to push him away, but he grips my wrist together, pressing it to his chest.
"But do you realize, Cattleya," he continued, his voice dropping to a low growl, "that your actions have only served to tie us closer together?"
"I... I don't want to see your face anymore if you don't know anything about my sister's death."
"She died. But I didn't kill her if that's what you are wondering!"
“Yes…” I gasped softly, trying to hold back the tears that were about to fall on my face.
He lifted my chin and said, “Hey, look at me… I did not kill your sister. Now that I answered your question, who’s this person who gave you the idea about my hidden identity?”
“I—I don’t know..”
“You’re a bad liar, Cattleya. If you can’t give me the right answer, I’m going to keep you…”
Thinking about my twin sister's death broke my heart again, so I closed my eyes and bit my lower lip.
Tears were slowly running down my face. So much for my desire for revenge; I'm stuck in this challenging situation with no idea how to get out of here.
I should give it some more thought; obviously, a murderer won't admit to killing someone.
I'm sure he knows something about how my sister died, and I need to play his game.
For the sake of my sister, I need to win this time.
I looked him square in the eyes and whispered, "If you cannot let go of me, will you please help me in finding her killer?"
This was my gamble. I unleashed my charm, a practiced seduction.
Success now could tilt the scales ninety percent in my favor.
Trapping him, that was the goal.
With a mischievous grin, he asked, "Are you not afraid of me?"
Cattleya's POVI stared at him intently, my gaze tenacious.Only he could command such undivided attention from me.Leaning forward, I plastered on a sweet, seductive smile and whispered, "No, I'm not."He sighed softly, clearly exerting self-control. "Alright then, it seems like you're persistent.""I am," I replied firmly.Suddenly, my phone rang, jolting me from our intimate moment.Patrick's name flashed across the screen. Why was he calling now?"Aren't you going to answer that?" Jaxon asked, his gaze fixed on the road.I shook my head, silencing my phone. "It's not important," I said, clearing my throat and trying to refocus. "So, where are we going now?"He nodded, his hand tightening on the steering wheel. "Well, I'm taking you home. You need a good night's sleep and to stop thinking about me."Confusion washed over me. "I thought you were going to help me find my sister's killer?""I don't know if I have to help you, Cattleya Sullivan," Jaxon said, his tone flat. "I don't hav
Cattleya’s POV She laughed, a mocking sound that grated on my nerves. "Guess I don't need to repeat myself, Cattleya. See you around."With a provocative sway of her hips, she turned and walked away. Her laughter echoed behind me, a taunting melody that sent a surge of anger through my veins.I stormed into the elevator, my mind racing. Upon reaching my condo, I slammed the door shut, the echo amplifying my frustration. I sank into the soft cushions of the red velvet sofa, my breath coming in ragged gasps."One step at a time," I muttered, my voice low and determined.I cracked my knuckles and opened my laptop, eager to delve into the world of Jaxon Moretti. His online persona was meticulously crafted, a pristine image of success and power—no scandals, no controversies—just a carefully curated facade. My phone rang, interrupting my investigation. It was Vianne. "Hey," I answered, my tone neutral."Miss Catt, we have dinner with Mr. Spencer tonight to discuss the Michelangelo Pieta
Cattleya’s POVI gasped for breath, my chest heaving as I struggled to inhale. Jaxon's hands gently massaged my upper back, his soothing murmurs a stark contrast to the panic clawing at my insides. "We need to get you to a doctor," he said to his driver, his voice firm.Minutes later, we arrived at Dr. Lamberto's. Jaxon cradled me in his arms, his touch both tender and protective. His concern was evident, but a cold dread nibbled at me. Why did I feel safe in his embrace?I managed a weak smile. "I'm fine," I lied, my voice barely a whisper. His eyes held a depth of worry I couldn't ignore. 'You're anything but fine,' he said, his tone gentle yet insistent, his hand tightening around mine. The doctor emerged from his house, his brow furrowed in concern as he took in the situation. His wife stood beside him, her face etched with worry. Despite his confusion, it was clear he recognized Jaxon's urgency.Jaxon carefully carried me inside, placing me gently on the living room couch.
Cattleya’s POVI glanced at Jaxon, my heart pounding. I was in serious trouble now and had no idea what to say to my parents.Their expressions were a mix of confusion and shock. Then, Patrick stormed in and lunged at Jaxon, ready to punch him.But in a surprising turn of events, Jaxon, with lightning speed, caught Patrick's fist and twisted his arm, turning the tables in the blink of an eye.Patrick howled in pain, demanding, "Let go of me, you idiot!"I grabbed Jaxon's hand and pleaded, "Jaxon, please let him go."Jaxon pushes Patrick away.My parents stared at us with frowning eyebrows. My mom asked, "What the hell is going on, Catt? Are you dating this man? Do we know this man?" I know why my mom asked this kind of question; if I had to deny Jaxon in front of them, she would have been pleased to arrange a marriage for me with Patrick. "Mom... this is Jaxon Moretti—" My breath caught in my throat as I stole a glance at Jaxon, who seemed to await my following words. "My boyfriend
Cattleya’s POVI was stunned. I couldn't find the words. Maybe my sister's 40th death day was way more important to think than to think what other people would say.My mom sighed, "I'm sorry, Catt… I got carried away… I didn't mean to hurt you."I nodded and looked away. She picked up her black purse and left my condo.I sat on the couch, thinking about my happy memories with my twin sister. Now, they are all gone. I can only think about it, but it’s difficult to think about it—it only brings me pain. Suddenly, my phone rang. It was Vianne, my secretary. I answered her call. "Hey..." "It's been days since you've been to the office, boss. Are you okay?" she asked."I'm fine," I replied, scratching the back of my neck. "Did you move everything to my new office? The art, the gallery, everything I wanted? And did you talk to Mr. Spencer? What's the news?"She cleared her throat. "Actually, there's a problem. He doesn't want to talk to me. He wants to talk to you. As soon as he heard I w
Cattleya’s POV"No!" I yelled at him angrily."Are you not going to leave, woman?!" he shouted.I laughed sarcastically. "No! I'm not leaving until you tell me the truth about why she was the worst! What did you do to my sister? What did you do?!""I did nothing wrong to her. She was annoying as hell! And you... you won't get anything from me because I won't tell you anything!" he retorted."I know you know something about her death." He sneered at me evilly as he said, "You better stay away from me and stop bothering me!"Within seconds, the hotel security arrived. They escorted me out of his room. "Let go of me!" I yelled at the two guards who were holding my hands behind my back. They let go of me without saying a word. I stepped out of the elevator as soon as we arrived on the ground floor. I walked outside; frustration was evident on my face. To my surprise, I saw Jaxon just arriving. He walked into the entrance with all his men behind him. They marched past me as if I were in
Cattleya’s POVAs I sat in the dimly lit room, the man's gaze seemed to burn into me, his eyes darting back and forth as if searching for a weakness. A bead of sweat trickled down my temple, a silent response to the intensity of his scrutiny."Well, thanks to me, you're still alive," he finally said, his voice a low rumble. "Leo could have killed you today if I hadn't intervened."I forced a smile, my teeth gritting against each other. "So, including you? You want to stop me from finding the truth? Because you know something about it?"He reached into his pocket, his fingers brushing against something hard. "Your sister wasn't just an ordinary person. Her image was important, and revealing the truth would only cause chaos—by dragging my name."I nodded and took a sip of the rich red wine. The taste was bitter on my tongue, a stark contrast to the sweetness of my memories of my sister."The only difference between us," I said, standing up, "is that I have nothing to hide. But you, you
Cattleya’s POVElise frowned, her anger rising, "Are you joking, right?"Jaxon cleared his throat, trying to calm the situation. "Elise—""No, Jaxon, I'm not talking to you. I'm talking to this woman. Who do you think you are?" Elise yelled, her voice trembling with rage."I'm Cattleya Sullivan, and I'm your fiance's girlfriend," I said, my voice steady and confident."Are you out of your mind?!" she screamed, her face flushed with wrath. All eyes in the coffee shop turned to us, their faces a mixture of shock and amusement."Sullivan?" Elise murmured, her voice barely a whisper. "That name sounds familiar. I remember her... her name was Ariella, wasn't it? Such a tragic loss. May her soul rest in peace."My heart pounded in my chest. Did she know something about Ariella, too? What a strange coincidence.Jaxon had no choice but to grab my hand and pull me outside. Elise followed, her tears streaming down her face. "Jaxon... wait...." She sobbed fakely, her words barely loud throug
