Kate Pov

I eventually returned to Silvercrest and lodged in a two-bedroom apartment. That was what I could afford at the moment. In fact, getting that apartment cost me almost all the money I had been saving over the past six years of working in the small city I had just left.

Since I had my degree, it shouldn't take much effort to get a job here in Silvercrest. Even if I ran into Lusas by chance now, six years was enough time for me not to be affected by what had happened between us.

There was a high chance he had already married his secretary. I pushed the thought of Lusas out of my mind and began searching for job opportunities online, applying to as many companies as I could.

I didn’t want my children to starve for any reason. Feeding six kids was expensive, and I had promised them a better education here, so I needed to get them into school as soon as possible.

By the evening of the following day, I received a job offer to start as a dental assistant at a hospital. Although the pay was a bit low, it was still better than nothing. I hoped I would receive a better job offer from one of the other companies I had applied to.

I resumed work the next day and started working hard. The dentist I was assisting was kind and professional, and we got along quickly. I didn’t want to do anything to jeopardize my salary, so I remained extra cautious.

On my third day at work, my boss sent for me. As soon as I entered his office, he looked at me seriously.

“When it’s 2 PM, make sure you’re in the laboratory and ensure that all necessary kits are available. A special somebody is coming for a teeth examination today, and I need you to be absolutely cautious. Understood?”

“Yes, sir,” I nodded politely before leaving.

By 2 PM, I was already in the examination room, making sure everything was perfectly arranged. I was curious to see who this “special somebody” was.

Suddenly, I heard a commotion outside. Peeking through the window, I saw seven black jeeps parked outside, surrounding a sleek Lamborghini in the middle. It was obvious that the jeeps were escorts for whoever was inside the luxury car.

A crowd had gathered quickly, with many people peeping through the windows, desperate to catch a glimpse of whoever was inside.

I became even more curious. Who could this person be, someone whose mere presence attracted this much attention? Two men in black suits stood by the door of the Lamborghini, which opened by itself. A tall, slender leg stepped out first before the man’s full figure was revealed.

The sunlight hit his face, illuminating his strong features. He exuded nobility and elegance, like someone from a royal family. The sheer power he carried was undeniable.

I couldn’t see his face clearly, but I wondered—was this the special man coming for a dental examination? If so, I needed to be extremely careful. The last thing I wanted was to get into trouble with a powerful man in Silvercrest. All I wanted was to earn enough money to take care of my children.

Soon, the door opened, and I turned quickly. When I saw my boss, I let out a sigh of relief.

“Everything is prepared, right?” the dentist asked.

“Yes, sir. Sorry, I just saw a man step out of a Lamborghini. Is he the one we’ll be attending to?” I asked.

“That’s right. He’s the most powerful man in Silvercrest, and many people rarely get the chance to see him. That’s why there’s such a crowd outside. Please, make sure everything goes smoothly. I’ve heard he has a high temper,” my boss warned.

“Will this be your first time working with him, sir?” I asked.

“Yes, and honestly, I’m nervous. Let’s just hope everything goes well.”

Most powerful man in Silvercrest? Acting carelessly in front of someone like that was a death wish.

A moment later, two burly men in suits entered the room. One carried a briefcase, while the other wasn’t holding anything. Both were tall, intimidating, and dead serious.

Then, a majestic presence filled the room. My eyes landed on the powerful man himself. He was tall, lean, and dangerously handsome. His aura was overwhelming, and his elegance was undeniable.

His girlfriend must be so lucky, I thought.

“Welcome, sir,” the dentist greeted with a respectful bow, gesturing for him to sit. The man sat quietly, and the dentist immediately began examining his teeth.

“Cotton forceps, please?” the dentist asked while working.

I turned to grab them, but my hands came up empty. My stomach dropped.

I had forgotten the cotton forceps.

How could I be so careless?

“I… I forgot it. I’ll go and get it now,” I said hurriedly before rushing out. How could I forget such an important tool?

Grabbing the cotton forceps as quickly as possible, I ran back to the lab, only to find that the powerful man and his bodyguards were gone. Only the dentist remained.

Holding the forceps in my hand, I asked in confusion, “Where is he?”

Without a word, my boss handed me a letter and walked out.

Frowning, I opened it.

It was a termination letter.

I was fired.

Just like that.

Just for mistakenly forgetting a single piece of equipment?

It had to be him—the special man—who ordered my dismissal. Was he really that mean and inconsiderate? Couldn’t people make mistakes?

Shocked and desperate, I walked to my boss’s office and pleaded, “Sir, it was just a mistake. Please forgive me. I would never do that on purpose. I don’t even know how I forgot it… Please, I’ll never make that mistake again.”

“The man who ordered your firing is not an ordinary person. Whatever he says is final. If you want to beg anyone, go to him and plead,” my boss said before returning to his work.

I could tell that no amount of begging would change his mind.

With my heart pounding, I ran downstairs, hoping I could still catch up with the “special man” and explain that this was my third day at work. I needed this job for the sake of my children.

Spotting four of his burly bodyguards heading toward the Lamborghini, I realized someone was walking ahead of them.

No matter how heartless this man was, he had to be reasonable enough to understand my situation.

I rushed toward the group, managing to slip past the guards before they could stop me. Now standing directly in front of the most powerful man in NorthHill, I finally saw his face clearly.

And I froze.

His features were eerily familiar.

He looked exactly like my three boys.

Coincidence… right?

The guards immediately tried to seize me, but the man raised a hand, signaling them to stop. They looked surprised by his reaction.

I was stunned into silence, staring into his dangerously handsome face. I forced myself to blink, remembering that I was standing before the most powerful man in the city.

“Sir, please forgive me. This is my third day at work, and I truly didn’t mean to forget an instrument. I don’t want to be fired. I work really hard. Please, sir,” I pleaded sincerely.

He just stared at me, his expression unreadable. Thirty seconds passed in heavy silence. My heart pounded. Had I said something wrong?

“I’m sorry if I said anything offensive, sir.” I started to turn away, accepting my fate.

Then, his voice, deep and commanding, rang out.

“How dare you leave?”

I froze.

His voice was like thunder, sending a chill down my spine.

Had I just brought the trouble I’d been trying to avoid upon myself?

I tried to speak, but my words got stuck in my throat.

Taking a step closer to his car, he spoke casually but with undeniable authority.

“Throw this woman away.”

Kate Pov I curled my legs up on my bed, tears streaming down my face. I felt both sad and humiliated after everything that had happened today. First, I lost my job, and second, I was thrown out of that man's presence like I was nothing. I hated him. I believed he was arrogant and heartless. What had even possessed me to approach the most powerful man in Silvercrest? Was I out of my mind? Where would I get a job now? All the companies I had sent applications to had yet to respond. The door suddenly opened, and Emma appeared. "Mum!" she called, running towards me before I could even finish wiping my tears. I didn’t like my children seeing me cry. I believed it would trouble them. So, I quickly wiped my tears and forced a smile. Emma looked at me with concern. "Mum, what's wrong?" "Nothing at all," I lied. "I'm just happy to have you all around me." "But we are never absent from you," Emma said. Before I could say another word, Chloe and Sophia walked in and climbed

Kate PovAs I headed home, I realized that I hadn't surprised my kids with a gift in a long time. They understood my financial struggles and had never asked for anything unnecessary. But today, I wanted to do something special for them. As for Abel, I refused to waste my energy thinking about him. As long as he wasn’t the CEO, he had no real power over me. I wasn’t afraid of him—I despised him. What kind of man meets a woman for the first time and immediately starts acting like a lust-driven fool? It only proved how irresponsible he was. I stopped by the mall, intending to pick up something for my kids. The moment I walked in, I saw a slap land on an old man’s cheek. “What?!” I gasped. A crowd had already gathered around, watching the scene unfold. I pushed my way through until I reached the old man who had just been hit. The burly man in a suit who had slapped him stood with an air of arrogance, surrounded by other men also dressed in suits. I stepped forward and confronte

Kate Pov I was shocked. Of all the people in the world, why did it have to be him? My heart pounded so hard I could hear it in my ears, and for a moment, I wished the ground would open up and swallow me whole. This man had warned me never to appear before him again, that if I did, he would destroy me. And yet, here I was, standing in his office. Was fate punishing me? "You dared to appear before me again, you cunning woman," the most powerful man in Silvercrest, Roberto Alessandro, said with a dangerous look in his eyes. My lips trembled, and I shook my head desperately. "I… I never knew you were the CEO, sir. I… I never knew." Roberto didn't believe me. His sharp gaze bore into mine, full of suspicion and anger. Everyone in Silvercrest knew that Roberto Alessandro was the CEO of Alessandro Corporation. To him, I must have looked like a fool or worse, a liar. He stood from his seat. The moment I saw him rise, fear surged through me, and I instinctively stepped back. Should

Anyone close to me at this time would literally hear my heartbeat. It was thumping so heavily that it felt like my heart was ripping apart. I didn't want this fierce-looking man to pounce on me. If he pounced on me, what could I do? I started it six years ago by pouncing on him. I hoped earnestly that he would change his mind. I just wanted to leave this office and run as fast as my legs could take me from this company. He walked toward me, then suddenly turned to his seat and sat. "Leave." Leave? Did I hear the right word? Did he say leave? He was telling me to leave? I began to walk out slowly, hoping I was acting on the right word. I twisted the knob, and the door gave way. Oh my gosh! Kate Pov I wondered who could be knocking. I wasn’t expecting any visitors and hadn’t made any friends in this neighborhood. Nevertheless, I stood and walked toward the door. When I opened it, I saw a tall woman standing there. "Kate!" the woman screamed. I furrowed my brows as I eventually recognized her. "Lily!" We hugged each other dearly, and I quickly let her in. Lily had been my roommate at the university. Throughout my four years there, we had lived in the same room, but we lost contact somehow after graduating. "How did you find out where I live?" I asked, still basking in the joy of reuniting with my old friend. "I didn’t. I actually came here to apologize for what my son did. He didn’t allow his friends to play ball with him, and I think that’s selfish," she said. Then she paused, her eyes widening. "Wait, are the three boys yours?" "Yes, they are," I responded. Lily furrowed her brows. "Oh my days! I always thought their parents must be so lucky. Oh wow! I do

Kate Pov I was now in the mansion with my six kids. They were in Bella’s room, and I had told them that she was their second grandma. She would be responsible for taking care of them, but since I lived in the mansion, I would always check up on them and play with them as usual. Most importantly, I warned them again and again to refer to me as ‘aunt’ instead of ‘mum.’ When they asked why, I told them it was necessary for now. I explained that it would keep us all protected. Though they couldn’t fully understand the reason behind it, they agreed. My greatest fear was that one of them might mistakenly call me ‘mum’ in front of Roberto.I sat on the couch in the large room where Roberto and I would be staying, smiling as I remembered how Cora and Bella had showered my kids with so much love when they saw them. But my smile soon disappeared when Roberto walked in."Successfully married to the most powerful man in the city. I checked my wristwatch and saw that I was not late yet. Seeing that the main large door wasn’t closed, I stepped inside and appeared in a large living room with royal chairs and tables.“Hey, Kate,”I turned and saw the woman who had been helping me, Cora. I quickly walked toward her. “Mother, good morning!”“Welcome, dear. I’m glad you eventually came as promised,” she said warmly, gesturing for me to sit. I obeyed.“He will be here soon, okay?” Cora said to me, and I nodded. My heart pounded nervously.
