Leo and Alana halted their run upon hearing gunshots not far from them, causing Alana to gaze at Leo with a worried expression.

"Are they following us?" Alana asked, prompting Leo to shake his head.

"No way. Edgar must have restrained Reno's men from chasing us," Leo replied, furrowing Alana's brow. Alana was slightly surprised. Since when had her husband been working with a man named Edgar? Alana knew that the man had previously wanted to kill them, but right now, that wasn't something Alana needed to dwell on. They had to keep running as far away from this remote location as possible. Alana didn't know how far Reno had taken them from civilization, but as far as the eye could see, there were only tall trees surrounding them.

Leo then pulled Alana back into the dense forest enveloping them. But just a few steps in, Alana stopped, her breath already heavy.

"I'm tired," Alana said, clutching her stomach, causing Leo to feel a pang of guilt.

"I'm sorry. I've truly failed to protect you
