Arguing with a smile

The laughter of Alana and Leo ceased as Leo's office door swung open wide, revealing Reno, who approached them with authority and friendliness.

"Is Uncle bothering you?" Reno asked, making Leo clear his throat momentarily while putting back his utensils. Alana, clearly not pleased, averted her gaze elsewhere.

"Why does he have to show up at the wrong time?" Alana thought, beginning to grumble inwardly.

"No, we're just having lunch," Leo replied. Of course, Alana could guess that Leo couldn't possibly dismiss his uncle when he visited his workspace. Reno then sat across from Alana, briefly gazing in her direction.

"Uncle accidentally overheard your conversation about your late mother-in-law's bakery. How's it going? Is everything smooth?" Reno asked. Somehow, Alana found his smile, which seemed very fake to her, slightly unsettling as Reno looked at her with that smile.
