Linda's POV
On the next flight that was supposed to take us to Iowa, I was quiet. I was doing a lot of thinking and I think Mitch had a clue about that because he did not make me talk.Nor did he make me feel bad for not doing so.I did not even eat any of the food that was served on the flight, I only drank some tea. When we arrived, Mitch and I got off the plane and we walked in a comfortable silence after a few airport procedures. Then I broke the silence by asking, “How is Ben?”Mitch’s eyes lit up at the sound of my brother’s name. But I could tell that he was being a bit careful about how he would respond.“He’s fine. We got a new car and if I’m being honest, he hates that I'm here for this week,” he explained.“He’s been going on about getting this weird feeling since I told him about coming here for the conference,” he added.I chuckled lightly.I knew my brother and remembered very well that when we were younger, how he would always get these feelings sometimes. He would then tell one of us not to go out, or not to eat the food we bought. Or not to take a road when one of us was driving. We never used to believe him at first but after the first few times of making fun of him and going against what he had asked, we literally had bad things happen to us.One time, we even got into a car crash after not listening to Ben. So as we grew older, we all just knew to listen to him concerning matters like this, no matter what.“Oh,” I replied. I remember that I told Mitch about Ben’s weird gift of predicting when something bad would happen but the guy played it off.He did not believe in things like that and no matter what I did, I could not convince him otherwise.I mean, it was not all the time that my brother used to be right about his weird feelings, but most of the time he was.And I personally think that it was best to be on the safe side.We were now leaving the airport. It was morning and the air was warm. I expected it to be cold or snowy because we were in December but it was not. There was evidence that it may have snowed last night when we had not arrived yet, because we could see some scattered around, but melting though. The sun was beaming but it was not scorching hot. It was producing the perfect amount of heat. The air also smelled clean.“And I know you’re going to tell me to take him seriously, that something bad could happen, but I’m okay, Linda. Everything’s going to be fine, you will see.”“Of course.” I flashed him a small smile that was a bit forced.Since we were going to the same hotel, instead of calling Joyce to come and get me, we took a cab.I knew that she would be busy so it would not be okay to pull her from her job.The ride to the hotel was not as quiet as the flight. Mitch and I got more comfortable with each other and we talked about mundane things, laughing freely with each other. It was a bittersweet experience. And that was firstly because he was my ex, it made me imagine what if we wouldn’t have broken up and everything went so smoothly. This caused a sour feeling to grip my heart.I also could not shake the images of Chris with Meghan that my brain was conjuring up.It made me sick to my stomach. It was like I was multitasking mentally, doing so much in my mind at once. When the cab reached a stop, my eyes fell on the hotel from the window. It was so beautiful and elegant!China has a lot of outstanding buildings, so that was why I was not too stunned.“Thank you very much,” I extended my thanks to the driver after we paid him and stepped out.Mitch got our luggages and soon, we were inside the hotel. When we reached the desk, we were attended by a man behind there. He looked Indian and was very good looking.“Good morning, how may I help you too?” He spoke so well, his voice matching his face perfectly. He flashed us a smile as he waited for a reply.“You already have a room, right? Or we could book one big one for the two of us,” Mitch suggested, a bit nervous as he waited for my reply.I shook my head slowly and watched a small look of disappointment cross his face.“Oh, that’s fine,” he brushed it off smoothly. “We could just get separate rooms.” He gave me a small smile.“No, no, you don’t get it. I’m not here to stay in one of the rooms that are offered to guests. I’m here to work…”“Work?”I glanced at the guy behind the fancy standing desk and even though there was not an ounce of impatience on his face, I still did not want us to keep him waiting.“Let’s talk about it after you book your room, okay?” I smiled at Mitch.“Alright,” he replied. He then proceeded to talk with the Indian guy, booking a very fancy room with one king-sized bed and bathroom. After he was done, he then asked me,” so why are you here? What kind of work are you here to do when your husband is a billionaire?”My heart dropped at the mention of Chris, all the heavy and sour feelings rushing back into me.Just as I was about to speak, he beat me to it, “I’m sorry. I’m sorry for bringing him up. I forgot.”“No, it’s okay.” We were now walking away, heading to the elevator. “Anyway, it might sound crazy but I want you to hear me out, please…I’m here to work as a maid.”The elevator made a sharp sound as the automated doors opened, which was the same time that Mitch said, “The f*ck?”Linda's POV“A maid?” He exclaimed. We were now in the elevator, heading up.I wanted to take him to his room so he could drop his things off, but mainly, I also wanted to know where he would be staying so if anything bad happened, I would know where to get him.I know, I know, I was being over dramatic. But you don’t know, my brother’s premonitions almost always happened. And as much as my heart still bled when I thought about what Mitch and Ben did to me, it did not mean that I did not still care for them.I certainly did and was not going to allow anything bad to happen to either of them.“Yes, Mitch, you heard me. I came here to work as a maid.”“Linda, are you joking? Because you must be.” He stepped out of the elevator when it had come to a stop, the automated doors opening.“And look…” he stopped in his tracks after I had stepped out of the elevator. “I don’t have anything against maids. I personally think it’s a great job and they are doing wonderful by helping to keep places
Linda's POVI had my suitcase in his room and I wanted to get it but there was no way that I was going to do that. I was going to make sure to wait until he goes out before going in there to get it, with the pretense of cleaning.I headed to the elevator, livid about what had just happened. I wanted to rip Mitch’s throat out and wanted to break his engagement with my brother but I decided that I was just being impulsive. Even though I hated what he had just done, I was not willing to take my anger far.“Hi,” Someone said when I entered the elevator. The person was a girl my age and she looked Asian. I flashed her a warm smile despite how I felt. I was so proud and impressed by myself.Because honestly, I felt like breaking down almost every second, since I found out about Chris and Meghan.I was trying my best to push it all out of my head and pretend that it was all just a dream but man, my heart freaking hurt!“Um…I’m sorry to trouble you, but are you Linda Wells?” I was taken a
Linda's POVDid this woman just ask me for money? The manager of all the workers of one of the biggest hotels in the country just asked me for money?“You know…as an incentive,” Nora said before giving me a wink. “It’s only fair since I would be putting my job and reputation on the line for you,” She added when she noticed I had not responded yet. Money was not the issue, I had a lot of that in my account. But my problem here was using it. I had a fair share of cash in my name but most of it was from Chris, a lot in his name. He had told me to use any of it if I wanted to but still…after what had happened with him cheating on me, I did not want anything to do with him. “Um…”“Is the money going to be a problem? Because dear, I can assure you that I have done my research and forty grand is nothing compared to what you and your billionaire husband have.” Oh, boy, she did not have a clue. She had no idea that my billionaire husband had cheated on me with a girl that looked…that look
Linda's POVLooking into the forest green eyes of the guy, I found myself a bit flustered, and I could not tell why. Or maybe I could, maybe it was due to the obvious fact that the guy was very attractive. I really don’t get how anyone could reject him. He had it all; the money, the style, the fame, the influence. He was a whole package. “Hello there,” He spoke to me in a smooth voice. It was like listening to soft jazz on a wonderful evening while the gentle breeze blew. I don’t know what I expected him to sound like but I think one thing that I expected was a french accent. But there was none whatsoever. He spoke just like an american. From the way he was speaking, no one could tell he was even French unless they knew him to be. “Hi,” I replied to him, trying my best to be polite. But someone had to tell him, someone had to tell this guy to stop looking at me the way he was. It was really doing something to me. His gaze was so deep and purposeful that I had to look away almos
Linda's POVI knocked on the door lightly for a few more seconds before I finally reached in my uniform for the master key for the rooms I had been assigned to. It was not an actual key but a keycard though, but was somehow called a master key when it was given to me. I placed the object on the scanner and it made a small beep before signaling that the door was unlocked.I then opened the door and stepped into the room. A weird smell was the first thing that greeted me. I scrunched up my nose as I rolled the mop bucket deeper into the place. The smell only got stronger the more I continued walking. My eyes then landed on the bed. Something was under the sheets and it resembled a human. “Hello?” I rang out, trying to wake the person if they were sleeping. This was Mitch’s room so if anyone was actually under there then it must have been him. But I wanted to be professional so I said again, “Sir?” Still, there was no response. I had a bad feeling filling the pits of my belly as I
Linda's POVThis was a setup. It had to be. There I was, sitting in the holding room of the police station, handcuffed to the desk. My eyes were drained from all the crying I had done, and my heart was heavier than a truck full of bricks. No one was in the room with me and I did not know what was going to happen next. I had cried for a lawyer but no one was taking me seriously. My throat was parched and my stomach needed food. I felt so tired; emotionally, mentally, and physically. I still could not believe that Mitch was dead, it shook me to the bones. Every time my mind pushed the image of him lying lifeless on the bed, a shudder would run through me and my heart would skip a beat. I had begged the officers not to disclose any information out to the public and they had assured me that they were not going to do so. I also pleaded with them that I should be the one to tell the news to my brother and Mitch’s family. As for that, they did not give me any promises, but they said t
Chris's POVWe were at the back of a very expensive rental car that I had ordered even before talking to Linda. I was sitting at the right side of the car, by the door, while she sat on the left side, not even giving me a pinch of her attention. I did not mind, or maybe I did. But heck, I did not have any real choice here but to be happy that she had even agreed to the conditions that I had told her about when she was still in the holding cell. She was so adamant about not wanting to be in the same house as me, but after explaining over and over that this was the only way she would be able to get out, she gave in. I wanted to tell her the truth about Meghan, I really did, but I decided to wait until she had calmed down a bit. I hurt her, I really did. I knew that. That was why I was willing to be fully honest and try to gain her trust back, while mending her heart. The car finally came to a stop in the compound of a lovely space, parked right in front of a very luxurious castle-l
Linda's POVI blinked rapidly for a few seconds as I tried to wrap my head around what my husband had just explained. It sounded like he was telling the truth but I was still a bit tentative about believing him. Because what if he was only using this strategy to get me to feel sorry for him and forgive him? But you see here, the thing is that Chris is not that kind of person. He never was. So, let me try to entertain it. “So…you’re trying to tell me that you did not sleep with Meghan?” I asked him. He pursed his lips and then replied, “Please close the door so we can talk properly.”I unfolded my arms on my chest and did what he had asked. “I swear, Chris, if I find out that you’re lying to me, I’m never going to forgive you.” “I am not lying to you. I found out about your plan to go to Iowa weeks ago, but I decided to stay quiet.”“So the whole Meghan thing is not real?” I asked, feeling some hope. My heart was begging for this to be true. He nodded, and then after a few second
Linda’s POVWe managed to get out of the burning room, and I swear I think I got a few burns but the adrenaline drowned the pain out. We were headed out and had no idea where the exit was due to how much smoke and fire was assaulting us from almost everywhere. The pinching pain in my belly was growing and as much as I tried to brush it off, it was getting harder to do with each step that I took.Suddenly, the roof caved in and fell to the ground causing us to be separated by angry flames. I was stuck on the other side and Chris and the others were away from me.Fear filled me and I took a few careful steps away from the raging fire. “Help!” I exclaimed.“Keep calm, Linda. We will find a way to get to you, but for now, I would recommend that you keep moving.” He pointed towards the ceiling. When I looked up, I saw that the fire was eating it up, it could fall at any second. “Okay!” I said loudly, so I could be heard above all the commotion. When I turned around to start moving, I was
Linda’s POVI had never been so scared in my life, the room held a tension that I could not describe. It felt like a nightmare, a real one.It felt like I was hallucinating all of this, but deep down, I knew that I was not. This was real, and it was something that I could not escape from. “Please, think about the baby,” I begged Mr. Kingston, tears flowing from my eyes and snot running down my nose.“Did you think of the baby before you and your friends decided to f*ici up my life?” He asked, dark humor dancing in his eyes.“Light them up,” he said, walking away. In seconds he was out of the room. Kirby flashed me a sad look before her features hardened again. She then walked out, the doctor guy following her.I sniffled and then sobbed out even more. I was beginning to smell gasoline, the smell was overwhelming. Sh*t, they were going to burn us up. My vision got blurred for a few seconds before I blinked the tears away, making it clear again. The door opened and I saw Kirby and th
Linda’s POVThe call went through but after a few rings, there was no answer. My heart was thumping in my chest and more tears threatened to spill from my eyes due to fear.“You better hope she answers, we are on a tight schedule,” Kirby warned me in a hard tone. I was praying for that too. “Call her again, maybe her phone is on Do Not Disturb,” I tried to find an explanation.“Hmm,” She mumbled in response before deciding to make the call again. This time, Fallon answers on the third ring.I let out a breath that I did not know I was holding. Kirby brought the phone close to me and put it on speakerphone. “This better be important, because I’m very busy right now,” Fallon said, it sounded like she was on a busy street because I could hear the sound of cars and people being people in the background. “It is,” I replied. “Fallon, I need your help; Chris and I have been kidnapped. The like went quiet for a few seconds and then she broke the silence. “Linda?” “Yes, Fallon, please…hur
Linda’s POVBeing bound was not a nice experience, the ropes were so tight that every time I would try to move, they would pinch my skin. But I had made my decision, I wanted to come out of here alive. I wanted my baby to come out of here alive, so I was going to do everything I was told to do no matter how messed up it would be.Kirby and the guy who I thought was a doctor soon walked out of the room, leaving me with the guy who was not too far from me.I knew it was a man because of his build but I could not tell who he was. He was wearing old and ragged clothes and seemed to be unconscious because his head was bent over in a weak way.“Are you okay?” I asked, attempting to see if he was awake even though I felt he was not. There was no reply. So I sighed and then glanced around the room, looking to see if I could find a way of escape, but it seemed like the only way to get out here was through the door. There were two windows in the room but both of them had iron bars that did not
Linda’s POVThe car soon came to a stop, it had been a long ride. “Take her inside,” Kirby commanded and the Doctor did as he was asked. He opened the door and got down before gesturing that I do the same. I did not want to be hurt and did not want my baby to be hurt either so I did as he told me. I got down from the car and glanced around. It was now dark but the lights from on the property were impressively bright. Acres of land stretched from both sides that I looked at, and a huge stood not too far from me. It looked like a castle. It was stunning but it had a dark energy that caused my heart to skip a beat. I already knew who was behind this. I mean, I had my suspicions at first but they had now been confirmed. The thought of Chris entered my mind and I felt a heaviness that I could not ignore. Why did they have me tell him that I was on a street that we were miles away from? Had it been a way to get him alone so they could harm him? Oh my gosh, I did not know what I would do
Chris’s POVKidnapped? The word rang in my ear over and over, and I could barely hear a thing after she had said that. The car behind mine honked loudly and I was pulled out of my trance. “Clink Street? You said you’re being held at Clink Street?” I needed to make sure that I had heard her right. “Yes…” Her voice broke before a shudder followed shortly after. Then the call dropped. I tried to call but there was no answer. So I tried again; again and again. And with the cars honking behind me as I was parked at the traffic light, blocking their way, I knew that I had to put it all aside for only a few seconds. My mind raced as I tried to make sense of what had just happened. Lind, my wife, was kidnapped. The thought was incomprehensible, surreal. But I could not afford to dwell on it. I had to act, I had to act fast. With a deep breath, I refocused on the present. The light that was was still green, so I finally drove and ignored the road rage that I was getting as I pulled to the
Linda’s POVMy heart skipped a beat, a cold fear gripping me as I realized something was terribly wrong. Panic surged within me, but I tried to keep my voice steady. “What do you mean, you lied?” I demanded, my voice trembling despite my efforts to remain calm. Dr. Adam’s smile faded, replaced by a chilling expression that sent shivers down my spine. “You, Linda,” He said softly, his ice blue eyes locking onto mine with unsettling intensity, “You’re not going to another room as you already can tell, you’re going to a little place called ‘Pay Back’.” I immediately jumped out of the wheelchair and tried to run for my life but I fell to the hard ground. We were in the parking place, basement level. “Help!” I screamed at the top of my lungs but it was like there was not even a soul there. As I hit the ground, pain shot through my body, but fear propelled me to my feet again. Adrenaline surged through my veins as I fought to escape, but Dr. Adam was quick to react. He grabbed my arm lik
Linda’s POVI could barely speak, the pain overwhelming me as I doubled over on the bathroom floor. Every fiber of my being screamed with agony, and I feared for the safety of my unborn child. I already knew what it was, what was causing the pain. This was not my first rodeo, it was not the first time that it had happened. Aunt Maze and William rushed into the room, their expressions filled with alarm as they saw me writhing in pain. “What’s going on?” Aunt Maze exclaimed, her voice tinged with worry. I struggled to find the words amidst the agony that consumed me. “It’s the bullet…it’s moving and must be hitting one of my organs,” I managed to gasp out, tears stinging my eyes as another wave of pain washed over me. Fallon’s eyes widened with realization. “We need to get her to the hospital, now,” She said urgently, her voice plastered with panic. With her support, I managed to rise to my feet, the pain still stabbing at my abdomen with each step. Aunt Maze and William sprang int
Linda’s POVMy heart skipped a beat at the revelation, the gravity of the situation sinking in. The Kingstons had vanished without a trace, the police had no way of knowing where they were. I wanted to ask how that was even possible. But I already knew the answer to that. Power, money, and influence. They had found a way to disappear because of who they were. “What do you mean disappeared?” Chris demanded, his voice smeared with urgency. “How could a prison transport vehicle just f*cking disappear?” Sergeant Thompson’s tone remained solemn. “We are still trying to ascertain the details, but it appears to have been a deliberate act. We suspect foul play.” “Of course, there was,” I heard Fallon say under her breath before letting out a string of curses. The car we were in was more of a van and we could all fit in easily. My mind raced with so many possibilities, each one more terrifying than the last. Had all of this been orchestrated from the start? Was he planning revenge right n
