NICKOLAS
Sitting in my office, I fiddled with the necklace, staring at it and wondering who it belonged to. Rubbing on the pendant, my thoughts slipped to the girl who served me last night.
Her pheromone kept on lingering in my head. She looked pale last night, I have never met her before but she had the same pheromone with that on the coat.
I had no idea what was going on. She didn't say anything but Emilia claimed to be the one who saved me.
I don't believe her, I don't know why.
I stand up and walk over to the door, "Get me a bottle of Vodka,"
"Yes sir." Remus, a guard responded as he walked away.
Slumping back on the chair, I raise the necklace to my face, staring at the initials wondering what decision to make.
I felt something more than just being treated happened last night, Emilia isn't saying anything about it.
Late night, I had a dream where I had sex with a lady. I thought it was just a dream at first but it was still in that hut and the same pheromone. It felt so real.
Thinking about it now makes my brain go nuts. I still feel the satisfaction of what went on. Emilia never mentioned anything about it to me.
I do not understand what is going on anymore.
"Arghh!"
The door screeched open and someone cleared their throat. I looked up, my eye darting to Sam as he held up a bottle of Vodka and a glass.
"I asked Remus to get that for me,"
Walking up to me, "Yes. A little help doesn't mean a bad thing, right?"
I nodded my head slightly.
"You are still staring at that necklace since you saw it when you woke up... It might belong to Emilia," Sam suggested.
"I don't think so," I looked away.
Sam handed over the glass to me and served me a shot. I gulped it down and took the bottle from him and served myself another shot.
"So what do you intend on doing? I'm certain it belongs to her," Sam insists.
"She couldn't sleep last night. It has never happened before, she cried all night and lock myself and my wife out from seeing her." Sam took a deep breath.
"You have to do something about this."
I want to believe Emilia but I find it difficult to, her pheromone is faint and I hate it as well because it doesn't match with that ln the coat.
Emilia is Sam's daughter, I know he would do anything within his power to make sure I take Emilia in.
"Are you trying to tell me that because she saved me... I should make her my bride?"
"I-" Sam took a deep breath. "I don't mean that,"
I took another shot, loosening my tie. This necklace is the only way to the truth, I have to act fast before I make any mistakes.
Crossing my arms, I sat the glass on the table. "I want you to search through this pack, summon every lady whose name begins with 'E'."
"But-"
Adjusting, I stretched my hand and picked a file. Unsealing it, I took out the document and signed it. I sealed it back.
My eyes bored into him, "No but."
Sam shook his head, "Nickolas, you don't just rule this pack. We are just the capital,"
Snarling, "I just said no buts! Just do as I have asked you to,"
"Yes, Alpha,"
"Have this," I handed the file over to Sam.
"That's your daughter's reward for saving me. I know it wasn't an easy option but you should also make her understand that she can't control me because she saved my life. I remain the Alpha," I tugged at my shirt collar, waving my hand and gesturing dismissal.
VALERIA
The events of last night kept on replaying in my head. I wondered what Nickolas's decision to Emilia's suggestion will be.
I stunk like shit pit last night, all thanks to Miss Sophie who showed up at the moment I needed help the most- else I have no idea what Emilia would have done to me.
The day has been busy, clearing and washing the dishes, preparing lunch and serving. I have never worked so hard as I did ever since I began to work in the kitchen.
"It's about to rain,"
I heard Eve's voice behind me, rinsing off the soap on my hands, I dried them on my skirt and faced Eve.
Clasping in palms, "Please Val, can you help me pack the laundry I did a few hours ago? There's going to be a downpour soon, and I have to watch over this soup,"
"Alright,"
"Thank you so much." Eve embraced me and I smiled.
I grabbed a basket and headed to the clothesline. Dusting and folding the clothes before placing them into the basket, in a matter of time I was through.
Heavy wind began to blow, tussling my hair and I quickly packed it into a ponytail even though it was still messy.
Tapping my hands on my skirt, I cursed at the realization that I didn't take Eve's keys from her. I have no other choice but to keep it in my room.
Strolling through the hallway, the energy was different. The girls were eager about something, they giggled and murmured among themselves.
"I can't believe we got invited to the castle," Eleanor giggled from afar as she placed her hands on her lips.
I caught up on Eleanor gossiping with Maya and Ruby. They didn't look interested in what she was saying.
Maya rolled her eyes.
"Don't say us. It's just you. Our names don't start from the letter E," Ruby gave a mirthless laugh.
I hastened my steps as I walked past them, I needed to know what was going on. I got to my room and pushed the door open. Pushing the basket through the door, I sat on the floor.
I untied my hair and tossed it behind me before slumping on the bed.
'The letter E-' I mumbled to myself.
I wondered why girls whose names began with the letter E were summoned to the castle.
Standing up from the bed, I face the mirror, staring at my reflection as I wondered how my life became this awful.
It wasn't like I had a choice... I just have to accept whatever life throws at me.
I was just heading out of my room when someone stomped in and pushed me back inside. Staggering backwards, I raise my head to see who it was.
"Emilia!"
My face was already crimson and my eye burned. She was such a bitch who's lucky that I'm taking all of her shit.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" I yelled.
Emilia glared at me, then at my wardrobe. "Why didn't you tell me about the necklace?"
"What necklace?"
"You dropped your necklace that night, silly girl." Emilia paced to my wardrobe, flinging the doors open and taking out all of my clothes.
"What the hell are you doing?" I rushed toward her and pushed her away.
She drops the clothes on the floor and walks up to me.
"Because of that silly mistake you made, Alpha Nickolas has summoned all the girls whose name begins with an E!" her hands squeezed into fists as she lowered her head.
"What-"
All this while Nickolas had been the one with my necklace. I searched for it and it was with him. How do I tell him that it belongs to me?
Would he believe me?
"Hence you are ruining my chances," her breath came in quick rasps.
Emilia's voice snapped me out of my thoughts, it slipped out of my mind that Emilia warned me never to cross paths with Nickolas.
"What does that have to do with my wardrobe?" I flared up.
The heavy downpour of rain began. Emilia began to laugh like a crazy person.
"Did you just ask me that?" she leaned closer. "Huh!"
I hated this.
I hated the fact that Emilia thinks she can do anything to me and go freely. The audacity that makes her believe that I can't stand up for myself.
Emilia bent down and packed my clothes into her arms, "I am ready to do anything just to get Alpha Nickolas' attention and I see that he's attracted to your smell. I warned you... not to go anywhere close to him but you behaved like the fool that you are,"
"Your clothes will work on my pheromone and help me smell like you, he's going to notice me then." she whirled around, holding my clothes close to her chest as she walked away.
I couldn't believe what just happened, she wants to smell like me. To prove to Nickolas that she saved him?
How insane!
It sounded so absurd.
"Are you that desperate to have him?" I scoffed. "I mean don't you have plans for your life?"
Emilia paused on her steps and turned around. "I do not want to see you anywhere closer to the castle today! You are meant to remain here else you know the consequences of your actions,"
I stiffened, lowering my head. "I promise you that won't happen,"
Tears stung in my eyes as I watched her walk away, Emilia has no idea but she's taking my life gradually and leaving me with nothing.
That's not fair.
I fell to my knees as tears freely flowed down my face. 'This isn't the life I want for myself,'
I want to be treated right... I desire everything good. I want to be loved but all I have on my plate is hate and pain.
NICKOLAS I thought Sam wouldn't do as I told him, it would have given me more proof that he wanted me to take in Emilia.I needed to be sure before taking any steps. I never expected my life would take this turn. I never planned for all of these to happen, but they keep happening. Things end up not going well for me. All these years, I've tried my best to control every clan in the pack without having the aim of taking a mate.I guess I'm stuck now.Strolling through the hallway, I could hear the arguments of the girls outside the courtyard. I knew that they were all drooling over me.Every girl in the pack wants to have me as their man.Looking up, I saw Ragnor walking up to me, and it meant everything was ready. Taking a deep breath, I had no idea how to calm down and how nervous I was."Are they ready?" Ragnor crossed his arms around his torso, looking straight. He wants me to tell him that I have given up, but there's no way I can do that because my life now depends
Emilia felt a sense of achievement as she drove to her parent's house. She had managed to manipulate Alpha Nickolas and fulfilled her dreams of getting married to him. Still stunned at her confidence out there, even when the girls were gossiping about her. She was surprised that she didn't react to them because she was short-tempered.Stepping on the brakes, she packed her car at the garage. Emilia was welcomed by the sight of Sam and Camilla as she strode to the entrance, their faces beaming with joy.Her lips curled into a smile as Camilla held up her hands for her."My daughter," Camilla praised as she pulled Emilia in for an embrace."You put him in a tight corner out there. You know that right?" Sam shoved his hands into his pockets, chuckling.Pinching Emilia's cheeks, "I'm so proud of you. You are truly the daughter of Camilla Hoover. She gets anything she wants."Emilia's face turned crimson at the sight of her parents happy... There was nothing she wanted o
VALERIA The door flung open, and Miss Sophie burst into the room. She rushed to me, held my shoulders and stared directly into my eyes. Behind her stood Eve, who watched what was going on. "Mum, do you think it was food poisoning?" Eve scratched her nose before crossing her hands behind her back. Miss Sophie took a deep breath as she stared at me. "I don't think so." "You are adding weight," Miss Sophie lifted my chin before she stepped back. Confused, I looked down at myself. I didn't notice anything at all, I didn't know where Miss Sophie was directing, raising my face, I stared at Eve but she shrugged her shoulders, causing me to sigh. "I didn't notice anything," I hid my face with my hair. My knuckles turned white as I rubbed my clammy hands together. "When did this start?" Miss Sophie asked. My heart began to thud. I didn't know where this was leading, but one thing I made up my mind not to do anymore was lie to Miss Sophie. "Last we-" Before I c
VALERIA I bowed my head in surprise, "I never expected to see you here," my voice shaking as I tried to grasp my breath. Concern filled his eyes as he stared at me from my head to my toes, scanning my drenched clothes as the water cascaded down my hair.I rubbed my hands against my freezing body for warmth, clutching my arms tightly as my teeth chattered."Oh! You." Nickolas gestured his finger at me. He squinted his brows, observing me as he took a step closer. "Munchkin. What are you doing out here alone?" "M..Munchkin?"A smile curled on his lips. "Can't you see you're short?" he teased.Prominent lines appeared on my forehead. "But I'm not that sh…" He cut me off between my words."Are you alright?" He asked, gesturing his hand at the water as I tilted my head in the direction of his hand.Forcing a smile, "Oh, that! I-I'm fine. I just got startled when you spoke." I stuttered, my face turning pale, embarrassed that I had fallen into the water.
VALERIA I sauntered down the street, heading to the abandoned salt mine beneath Emberthorn in an attempt to stay away from all my problems. The heat emanating from the pavement was scorching causing me to wipe my sweaty brow as I tried not to gag at the stench of rotting garbage on the sidewalks. The walls were peeling, and weeds had taken over every crack in sight. As I stepped over shattered glass, a pungent odour of mildew, mould and urine filled my nostrils. As days turned into weeks and weeks into months, my stomach began swelling uncontrollably. Initially, I wrapped materials tightly around my belly for fear of being noticed by Emilia but now there's nothing I can do about it.It can't be avoided, so I decided to go open. I slumped myself onto an abandoned chair with my swollen belly gently pressing against my lap while exhaustion caused me to close my eyelids, my chin sank on my chest as I let out a deep sigh. Serving Nickolas and Emilia was a
VALERIA Turning around, I stepped out of the water, grabbing the hem of my gown in my arms, still clutching to my belly."If you keep giving them a chance, they will never stop treating you like garbage," a captivating, rasping voice said behind me, and I quickly spun around."A..Alpha Nickolas," I stuttered. Colour drained from my face when I realised he was my mate. Staggering backwards, his arms caught me, and his eyes bored into mine. His body language was on a whole different level. "Are you always this clumsy?" "It's not like I have a choice,"I hope he didn't hear me call him my mate. I'm still confused about how he turned out to be my mate.Has he been my mate for a while? Is he aware of that and went ahead to get married to Emilia?I never prayed for anything rough in my life... All I wanted was for someone to handle me so well in bed—to love me—to treat me like a woman. I never said I wanted my whole life to be rough. After clearin
The sun seemed to have noticed how gloomy it was going to be today. In the halls of Brutus's home, there was a young boy who happened to be his younger brother. The teenage boy had a frown on his face as he made his way towards the sitting room, where he knew his brother, the scariest Alpha of all, would be. The guards guarding the place seemed to know who he was, as they made no attempt to stop him. "Brother! How could you?" He yelled, his medium-sized hands clenched into a fist as he glared at Brutus, who pretended not to hear him. "You're yelling..." Brutus stated calmly, sipping on the coffee in his mug while his gaze was focused on the TV. Balling his fists, the teenage boy with a head full of brown curly hair stumped his feet towards the table and slammed his hands lightly on it before picking up the remote. The television suddenly went off, and Brutus, who had been unbothered by anything his younger brother had been saying, suddenly grew mad. A vast difference from the man
VALERIA FIVE YEARS LATER I sat in the garden, watching the sunset, my face etched with pain and sorrow. It's been five years since Emilia stole my baby from me, no matter how hard I tried to heal that wound, I just couldn't. Watching my daughter grow in the arms of my evil step sister kept opening the wounds I tried so hard to heal. I was so close to my daughter, but she had no idea I was my mother. It hurts. Every day I think of running away from here, but I just can't. I find myself coming back halfway. Everyday was a torment for me. I prepared meals, my hands trembled whenever I chopped fruits and vegetables, and I stirred pots. Five years passed, and I watched Giselle grow from a distance into a young girl. It ached in my heart that I wasn't given the opportunity to experience motherhood. Rather, people called me names and spread rumours that I was cursed... that's why I'm always unfortunate. They say it is an abomination for a woman to lose her child in the woods. All
Camilla pushed some chairs out of her way as she rushed to Sam. Her eyes fell on Sam, sipping wine as he scrolled through his phone. Her ears flared up. "Sam, what's going on? Why aren't you saying anything? Why are you quiet, like we are not part of the family?" Camilla rested one hand on her waist and the other on her forehead. Sam didn't say a word; he didn't even look up at her. He remained engrossed in his phone with no atom of emotion written on his face. "You sat there while that stupid girl humiliated me and our daughter. You watched her slap me, and you did nothing about it." Camilla kept on ranting. That was all she could do. She couldn't fathom the fact that Sam remained quiet and wasn't saying anything. Or was he part of everything that had been going on? She had doubts about it but hoped it wouldn't be true. Sam adjusted his glass, turned off his phone, and placed it beside him on the couch. He looked up at Camilla and crossed his legs. "Camilla, y
