A young girl of about 19 came up to our table after Dixon waved her over and glanced between us in curiosity. Her name tag read 'Megan', she's really pretty with her natural red hair and the freckles scattered all over her nose.
"Hello, I'm Megan. How can I help you today?" She asked with a pen and note in hand. I gave the menu a quick glance before deciding to go with the simple sausage egg sandwich.
"Can we get a plate of your Working Man's breakfast? I'll have some pancakes and bacon for myself." I opened my mouth to protest that I couldn't possibly eat that much but my stomach growled reminding me o the fact that I haven't eaten anything since I ate my Raspberry Swirl Loaf which I didn't even get to finish. I bit my lip and lowered my gaze in embarrassment.
"What would you like to drink, Princess?" Dixon asked, making me raise my head to look at him.
"I'll have a cappuccino, please." I told the waitress with a small smile. "Thank you."
Once the waitress was gone, I turned a narrowed glance at him." A Working Man's breakfast? Really? If I'm not mistaken, that's three pancakes, roasted potatoes, two pieces of French toast, some bacon, ham, pork sausages, and scrambled eggs. Wait, are you trying to kill me?"
"I can't kill you, Princess. We haven't even been on a real date yet."
"That's what you're worried about. Seriously?" I said as I tried desperately to hide the smile that is coming on my face. He shrugged his shoulders as he ran his hand through his hair. I so longed to touch and feel that shiny soft featherlike hair someday.
"What's the next step now? I mean if we're really going to find the hidden message your dad has for us, we have to know what we're doing, how we're doing it and how we wanna go about it." He said. I nodded and brought out my note pad.
"How about we have some rules?" I said. He raised his eyebrows in question as he looked at me. "What? I watch movies and read books too. It's fun, don't judge me for being a girl."
"Well, You're such a girl." He chuckled as I threw the nearest object at him which he dodged successfully even though he didn't see it coming. Or maybe he did.
"Since we're gonna be couples, I guess we can be the lovey dovey kind of lovers." I saw his eyes brighten in excitement, "And no, no sex. no kissing too except your life really depends on it and I mean really really depends on it like 'you're about to die and I give a CPR to bring you back to life' kind of kiss."
"That's really mean, how can I have a girlfriend I can't even kiss? At least, we get to kiss in public, right?" He asked fluttering his eyelashes at me and his bottom lip tucked out in an attempt to be cute with both his hands clasped together looking at me in hope."Awww, you're so cute. But Nope can do." I sang just as Megan arrived with our food. The smell of freshly cooked bacon filled my nostrils as I felt my mouth water. I literally had tears in my eyes as I put a slice of bacon in my mouth.
"You know, for a girl you have a wonderful and satisfying eating habit." He said making me glare at him. I knew he didn't mean that as a complement.
"I never said I was a girl anyway. And you don't stare at a lady who's eating her favorite thing in the world, she might just decide to scratch your eyeballs out." I said and went back to eating.
"Ohh, feisty? I like." He winked before grabbing my note pad and going through the rules I wrote down. "So the contract. No kissing, no sex. What else?"
"Hmm, I'm not sure. I guess I'll just add more as time goes by." I shrugged before taking a bite out of my pancakes. So buttery, just how I like it. Yum!!
"You won't add that line? You know the 'don't you dare fall in love with me' creepy line?" He asked.
"Nahh, I find stuffs like that boring. I mean when you say that, there's like a 99.999% chance of it happening, so why waste your time trying to prevent what's going to finally happen?"
"So you think we might fall in love?" He asked with a smirk playing at the corner of his lips. I felt my heart hammer so fast in my chest. What will I say to that now?
"You wish, dude. You wish." I said as I patted myself mentally for being so strong and convincing. Whew!! That took a lot of energy.
"Who would have thought that the popular Dixon Greene watches the cringy and cliché movies?"
"Whatever. When you have friends like Adeline, you'll watch cringy movies. Can you believe she made me watch Titanic and forced me to cry at its end? Like seriously?" I busted out in laughter as I knew that's definitely her.
"She did that cause she loves you." I said as I finally calmed down.
"By sticking two fingers into my eyes claiming to call out my tear gland. That's a brutal way to show your love to someone." He said as I literally felt my cheeks hurting from laughing too much.
"You know you love her. She's your best friend." He smiled sadly at me as his eyes seems to look far into the distance.
"Yeah, she's the best friend anyone will be grateful for but I feel like a bad person, you know."
"Why is that?" I asked as I set my food aside.
"I had a female friend too when I was like really young. But like everything else, I ruined what we had. She was everything to me, a really good friend. We met at a family function and I can still remember her being the most beautiful girl in the world in her little princess outfit." He chuckled as I felt my heart clench in jealousy. "She came to me and said 'I really like your shirt', I'm telling you I felt my heart somersault in my chest. That was the first time I fell in love."
For some reason, I felt like there was something special between him and the girl. A part of me felt so happy they didn't end up together but another part just wanted to take the pain away. He look like he's been hurt by her. I stretched my hand across the table and grabbed his.
"It's okay. It's all going be fine. Adeline is a really cool person, you know that. I suck at consoling someone right?" He nodded smiling. I clicked my tongue to the roof of my mouth;" At least you know not to come to me when Ada has you crying for Titanic now."
My phone ringing interrupted our little discussion. Luke's name appeared on the screen, seeing the time I definitely knew I was in trouble. I answered the call.
"McKenna, Where in the beJesus's name are you? You were supposed to be here 30 minutes ago for the Sinclair company investor's meeting." My eyes widened as I realized that I completely forgot about the meeting.
"That was for today?" I asked dumbly. He sighed deeply on the other side of the line.
"Will you just get your ass over here right away? And you better be fast about it."
"On my way. See you soon." I hung up.
"Calls always seems to cut our dates short, doesn't it?" He asked.
"Yeah, sorry. Except that was work and I really have to go. Apparently, I forgot I had a meeting to attend this morning."
"That's alright. I have to head to work too anyway. Let me walk you out." I nodded before picking up my bag and heading to the exit with Dixon right on my heel. For some weird reason, I felt like I was being watched. I paid it no mind and entered into my car. It's probably the press again trying to get a story. I rolled down my window just as Dixon bent down. Freaky tall dudes.
"I'll call you later, yeah?" I nodded before placing a small kiss on his cheek. I immediately pushed him back out and drove out of the parking area in full speed not even caring if I hit Dixon along the way. "You do know he's in love with someone else, right?' my stupid subconscious just had to make herself known. Of course, I know but for the first time in my life, I don't want to worry about the past or future. I'll just let myself think about now. I thought to myself as I sped to the office.
Third Person's POV.He sat down quietly beside the almost lifeless body of the young man. He watched as he took low steady breaths with the help of the tube attached to his nose that supplied oxygen to his lungs. He moved his eyes to the bruises on his arm that seemed to be healing already before redirecting his gaze to his face.He laughed at the helpless situation he's in. He loves this so much, it gives him an unspeakable joy. The victim's nurse, Sophia came in to check on her patient, she saw the mysterious man sitting beside her patient's bed and got confused on what he's doing there."Excuse me, sir but I don't think I've seen you around. Who let you in?" She asked with a clear look of confusion on her face. The man looked at her and smiled."I'm just visiting an old friend." He said standing up to leave. He adjusted his suit jacket and smiled at the nurse before finally leaving the room. Sophia watched the man's every move and shru
I stood in front of the stove as I cooked some eggs and bacon for Liam, I honestly don't know who eats eggs and bacon in the afternoon but you can never say with Liam. I was dressed in my long sleeve t-shirt dress and my hair was up in a bun. I got home about an hour ago after which Liam came in about 10 minutes later from school with Vicky. They were surprised to see me back at that time cause I was always working long hours at the office. Vicky was fired from her job cause the company went bankrupt, I tried to look for a spot for her at Wright's but she insisted she's okay with looking after Liam and taking care of the house which I didn't mind.I turned the stove off and put the eggs on Liam's plate. I went to the fridge and grabbed the strawberry juice that is especially for Liam and poured it into his cup. I grabbed the food and walked over to the counter where Liam was playing a game on his iPad. I set the food in front of him as he looked up and put the phone away as h
"Do I look okay?" I asked Luke for the tenth time as I came out of my room."You look great, McKenna. It's time for you to go now. We don't want to keep Dixxy waiting." He said. I asked him to accompany me to the company as it's my first day today, he said yes. Vicky was more than happy to look after the house and take care of Liam as I worked."Dixxy? Seriously? What are you, 12?" I said and groaned. "No matter what you say, I feel like it's still not good enough." I walked into my room to change for what feels like the umpteenth time today. I made my way into the closet, looking for another piece of clothing. Luke came in, grabbed the shirt I was checking out, threw it on the floor, and dragged me out of the closet."Hey, I wanted to check that out. You didn't have to go all Hulk on me." I whined. He grabbed my purse and keys."Well, maybe if you weren't taking forever to get dressed, I wouldn't have to drag you out. The only thing I need you doin
I slowly peered my eyes open as it finally sank in.I kissed my pretend boyfriend, and I initiated it. I bowed my head in shame as I couldn't face him with the stunt I just pulled. I mean, how can I be the one to initiate a kiss when I told him to keep his lips to himself.'Stupid McKenna. You just had to kiss him, didn't you?'I thought to myself, still looking down."Look at me." He said, and I slowly lifted my head to see him leaning closer to me. I could see the dangerous glimmer in his eyes.I swallowed hard, unable to look directly into his grey eyes. I glanced away and was about to run out of the room in shame when he suddenly grabbed me by the shoulder and pulled me up against him, his mouth anchoring on mine.Holy mother of all things created, There are fireworks. The sudden flare of heat and electricity that swept through me startled me into a frozen state where I could hear and see nothing except the sudden
Dixon and Jonathan led me to the 13th floor, where the meetings take place. After a minute or so, the door to the conference room opened, and I was ushered in by Dixon. Everyone stood up concerning the CEO. I noticed how the men do a double-take on me, making me self-conscious. Dixon directed me to a seat on his left-hand side as he sat on the head of the table. He sat down, after which they all settled down. Dixon cleared his throat."Alright, gentlemen, I'd like for us to get started as soon as possible. And in case you haven't noticed yet, we have the CEO of Wright's Enterprises, McKenna Wright, here with us. She'll be here with us for a while." I lifted my head from my tablet and blushed as I saw everyone's focus was on me. I waved shyly, and I could hear a few chuckles around the room, and a few of them smirked."Anyway, tell me about this month's issues or resolutions. As we all know, we're officially planning to open an office in London. We partnered with Wright's
Dixon's POVI looked over to the blond-haired woman with whom I have fallen so deeply in love with, sitting next to me. The same woman I vowed to love until the day I die, even though she knows nothing about my undying love for her.If I was honest, I was surprised when she kissed me at the office in the morning. It is so much more than I had imagined. If I ever doubted my love for her, I am more than sure now that she's the one for me.I do not know how to tell her. I do not know how to tell her that her brother might not make it out of surgery. I watched as relief flooded her muscles when I lied to her and told her that her brother would be out of surgery soon.I hate the fact that I lied to her or that I couldn't tell her what's going on;20 Minutes Earlier."Go sit, sweetheart." I said to her after noticing how stressed and tired she was. I knew just how worried and scared she is for her brother."Who are
McKenna's POV."Are you fucking kidding me?" I heard Luke yell, and I jumped away from Dixon as fast as I could. Luke looked back and forth between us before finally settling his eyes on Dixon."I get that you guys are dating and whatnot, but can you not eat my niece's face off during working hours?" He said, taking his seat in front of Dixon's desk."I'm sorry, I can't promise anything. It's not my fault I find the lady alluring." He winked before walking to his seat. He unbuttoned his jacket before taking his place in front of Luke."Can you guys not do that with me here?" Luke groaned. I'm surprised at how well he's taking everything. When he and Ian found out I was dating Jason, they practically roasted the guy alive."Why are you here, Luke? Are you stalking me again?" I said as I crossed my arm across my chest."I'm not stalking you. I just came to see my friend." He shrugged. I looked between both of them suspiciously."What ar
McKenna's POV.What do I do? I wanted to call Luke and tell him about the note, but I know he's mad at me at the moment.I need to clear my head a bit, I thought to myself. I picked up my phone and called Adeline. She always knows what to do. She picked up on the second ring."Hey, girl. How are you doing?" She said after she picked up the phone."I'm good. Do you think we can maybe meet up for lunch? I have something to discuss with you.""Of course, that shouldn't be a problem. Where should we meet?" She asked. I could hear the shuffles in the background. I know how busy she can be, but she'll never say no when I need her."I'll come to you, and we can go somewhere close to the office.""That's fine too. I'll see you soon?""Definitely," I said and hung up. I stared at the note continuously for a long time. I looked up to see it is almost lunchtime. I still have to drive 30 minutes to get to Wright's Enterprises. I step
Third Person's POV.BANG!It all happened in a split second. Dixon had turned around with a frown on his face as McKenna ran straight at him. But just as she reached him, her body jolted back into him, taking the impact of the bullet. It was the bullet that was to take his life. She took the bullet for him.One of the officers took the gun from Trevor quickly as another shot him in the leg. He let out a scream in pain. Sophie ran into the room, curious as to what caused the noise.Simon stared at the woman that came in with shock evident on his face. What was she doing here dressed as an FBI agent, he thought to himself as they stared at each other. He opened his mouth to say something, but the other agents pushed him and the others out of the room."MCKENNA!" Dixon shouted as he wrapped his arms around her, who came toppling down. Her eyes were filled with pain and tears, enough to make her u
McKenna's POV.Crying is the act of shedding tears in response to an emotional state. But after a certain threshold, even the tears runs out.My tears had long run out, and yet another sun was on the verge of setting. Another sunset without Dixon's arms wrapped around me every night when we'd go to the balcony after dinner to watch the sun disappear on the horizon and how he'd pull me closer when we played games in the living room with Ian and Liam.It had become their thing. A tradition that we never miss. I remember how Dixon would rush through meetings to make it back home in time before the sky is painted in various hues of purples and oranges. He'd kiss me softly as the last hue of orange disappeared, and I remember feeling like the happiest girl in the world.Dixon.He would have noticed her missing by now. I can't even imagine the pain and worry that he and every other person will

Third Person's POV.Everyone turned to look at the young woman who walked in like she had no care in the world with Dixon's father. Sophie knew that her coming here was a big step. The guys were intelligent, they would've uncovered the truth by now, but they don't know her mission yet.David stopped in his tracks when he saw his son. The two stared at each other, one not believing his eyes and the other thinking he doesn't want to see him. David moved closer to his son as he enveloped him in a tight hug. He couldn't believe his son was back after everything that had happened. Dixon smiled a little when he saw the exchange. Even though his dad never admits it, he knew how much he missed Leo. Luke saw red, anger coursing through every vein in his body. Sophie was the one that kidnapped her. What the hell was she doing here?"What are you doing here? Where did you take Kenna?" Ian said, his voice dripping with anger and hatred. "Wh
McKenna's POV.I opened my mouth to say something, but no words could form. The pain shooting from the back of my head also isn't helping matters. I watched as she walked to Trevor and placed a chaste kiss on his lips."What are you doing? I don't want my girl thinking we have a thing." He turned to me, an innocent smile on his face, but I knew better. "Don't worry, baby. I'm all yours."What the hell is he saying? He ran his finger down my cheek to my neck. Itried fighting him off, but I couldn't. His touch made my skin crawl, and I did the next reasonable thing I could think of at that moment. I spat on his face.He closed his eyes, letting my saliva trail down the side of his face. He laughed as he wiped it off. My face turned to the side as a harsh slap landed on my cheek. Another kick landed on the side of my stomach, making my insides churn. I swallowed my tears. If they think they can brea
McKenna's POV.My body hurts. I could feel the pain shooting at every single muscle in my body, my head pounding and some liquid flowing down my face. My hand reached out to massage my throbbing temples trying to alleviate some of the pain, but frustration coursed through my body at the inability to move.'Ugh, my head hurts.'I slowly opened my eyes to see that I was in a dark room except for the light peeking through the small window at the top of the room. I looked around the room for a way out, but there's nothing except the window. What am I doing here? How did I get here? I can't remember anything. Think, Kenny. Think. The only thing I seem to remember was the restroom and Sophie. My eyes seem to widen as I finally realized what happened. Yes, Sophie brought me here."Sophie!!! Sophie!!!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. My head hurts, but I need to talk to her. I'm sure she has he
Dixon's POV.I feel so happy and complete sitting here with Leo like old times. Seeing my brother after so many years has fulfilled me in more ways than one."She's a keeper then?" He asked me some minutes after McKenna left for the restroom. I looked up at him and smiled."Yeah, she is.""I'm proud of you, baby bro. You have no idea how much pride and joy I felt whenever I see you on television.""That weirdly made me feel good." I laughed out. I watched as his countenance changed within seconds. I know that look. He's beating himself up again."I'm sorry, Dix. I should have been there for you when you needed me the most. I should have believed in you sooner. I should've known you're strong enough to fight the disease. I shouldn't have walked out on you that day. I shouldn't---""You really need to stop apologizing. It's all behind us now.
McKenna's POV.I stared at the building in front of me in disbelief. I can't believe Dixon brought me here. I took my eyes off the building to look at him. He had both hands in his pockets as he stared in concentration at the building."A rehabilitation center?"He shrugged his shoulders before moving closer to the building. I placed my hand on his biceps to stop him. I can't, for the life of me, understand why he brought me here."What are we doing here, Dixon? You said we were going somewhere. I didn't know you were bringing me to a rehab center?""You don't want to come? We could go back if you want. I only came because you promised to come with me." His eyes looked sad as he said that. My brain seemed to receive some signal as I remembered the promise I made him."It's okay. I'm sorry you went through all that. I could go with you if you don't mind."
McKenna's POV."Well, well, well. If it isn't my favorite cousin."Dixon turned to him, anger emitting from him as he squeezed my hand.I placed my hand on his biceps, giving it a little squeeze, to calm him down. I don't want him getting angry at this event. It's supposed to be our breath of fresh air considering everything we've been through recently."What do you want, Trevor?" Trevor sipped his drink like he had no care in the world. The disgusting smirk on his face irks me to my bone, making my skin crawl."Can't a man be happy for his cousin? I came to celebrate with you. Congratulations on opening a new office, Dix.""Don't you fucking dare call me that!! You have no right." I can see the vein on his neck at this point. He's angry. I just hope he doesn't have a tantrum again. I looked at the man standing in front of me. He had a nasty smirk on his face and a glass with whiskey in his hand. I can't
