Chapter 5 Cheater

Laura felt that it must have taken Chris a lot of effort to become a special assistant.

She now knew why Chris was still single at this age. She felt that he must have been focusing on his career and didn't have time to get himself a girlfriend. Therefore, this must be the reason that he was single at the age of 30.

As soon as Laura finished speaking, she heard the knocking of the office door again. Assistant Jacobs walked into the room. Laura saw him as well.

Laura didn't recognize Assistant Jacobs, but he recognized Laura.

Assistant Jacobs was also taken aback when he saw Laura. Chris quickly walked up to him and passed the file in his hand to him. "This is the file that you wanted."

Such words made Assistant Jacobs tremble in fear. It was a good thing that Chris was standing in front of him and blocked Laura's line of sight. Therefore, Laura wasn't able to see Assistant Jacobs' reaction.

After seeing the meaningful look in Chris's eyes, Assistant Jacobs coughed lightly and pretended to sound serious. "Okay, I'll take a look later on."

Laura smiled politely at him and then said, "Greetings, Mr. Jacobs, here's the water. I'll be leaving now."

She didn't want to stay too long to disturb others.

Looking at Laura's receding figure, Assistant Jacobs breathed a sigh of relief.

"What's wrong?" Chris took back the file and glanced at Assistant Jacobs.

Assistant Jacobs quickly said, "Sir, the company's water dispenser on the top floor has broken down today, so I asked the convenience store downstairs to deliver a box of bottled water to the top floor. However, I didn't expect Miss Walker to be working at that convenience store as well."

That was when Chris remembered the note he had seen earlier this morning. He had heard his grandmother say that Laura was the store manager of a convenience store, but he didn't expect Laura to be working at the convenience store right next to the Jacobs Group.

'Has Laura really not seen me or is she just acting as if she hasn't seen me? If she hasn't seen me, then I would need to be careful in the future and not let her see me,' thought Chris. 'If she's just acting as if she hasn't seen me before then...' A flash of coldness appeared in Chris's eyes. 'If that's the case, then this woman is truly a scheming person...'

As soon as Laura returned to the store, Shannon greeted her excitedly. "How did it go? Were you able to meet Mr. Jacobs, Miss Walker?"

Before making the delivery, Laura didn't expect that she would be able to head to the top floor either.

She nodded at Shannon. "I was."

"Oh my god!" Shannon screamed. "What does he look like? How old is he? Was he an old man or was he a really cute guy?"

Laura tried to recall. "He's average-looking and looks about... 30 years old."

The truth was that being the CEO of a listed company at the age of 30 was a great achievement. Laura had guessed the age of the CEO of the Jacobs Group, but her guess was that the CEO was 60 years old.

Laura's words made Shannon even more excited. Laura looked at the expression on Shannon's face and smiled. She left Shannon to it and went back to work.

Laura would normally have lunch in the store. There were all the pots, pans and ingredients that she needed to make lunch in the store. She also made lunch for Shannon as well.

She was really good at cooking and Shannon couldn't help but give her a thumbs up. "The food's great, Miss Walker. I'm so lucky to be an employer for this store."

Shannon's compliments made Laura smile.

After lunch, Shannon volunteered to do the washing up and told Laura to get some rest.

There was a small resting area at the back of the store and there was a small bed inside, which could be used for a nap.

Laura didn't get much sleep the previous night, so she was feeling a little sleepy. She nodded at Shannon and walked into the back room.

Not long after Laura went inside, a man in black entered the store.

"Hello, is there anything I can help you with?" Shannon put down the phone in her hand and looked at the man.

Her jaws dropped when she saw the man. 'He's gorgeous!'

Chris looked around the store, but wasn't able to see the person he had in mind. He then picked up a bottle of milk, paid for it and then walked out of the store.

Even when Laura woke up from her nap, Shannon still couldn't get the man's face out of her mind. She then began describing the man to Laura excitedly. "I saw him heading towards the Jacobs Group. Since when did the Jacobs Group have an employee that's so gorgeous? I've never seen him before."

At first, Laura didn't take what Shannon said seriously. However, when she heard Shannon say that the man was headed towards the Jacobs Group, something came to her mind.

She then went to look at the surveillance footage and saw Chris's face.

After Chris walked into the store, he was clearly looking around.

Laura hesitated and then sent a message over. "Were you looking for me earlier on today?"

The man on the other end of the line seemed to be busy and didn't reply. It didn't bother Laura at all.

After playing a few games with Shannon, a text notification popped up. "I went for a bottle of milk. Oh, by the way, I'll be on a business trip for a week and won't be coming home for a while."

"Okay." Laura typed the reply.

Chris was going on a business trip. This meant that Laura would be all alone.

At seven o'clock in the evening, Laura allowed Shannon to get off work. She stayed until past ten o'clock in the evening before closing the store.

For the next few days, like what Chris had said in his text, he didn't come home.

Until one day.

After Laura had just gotten home from work, a man stuck his head out from around the corner.

Harry Jacobs looked at the pair of men's shoes placed outside the door and the men's clothes that were hanging on the balcony, an angry expression appeared on his face.

He then took out his phone from his pocket, took pictures of the men's shoes and the men's clothes and then made a phone call.

"Chris, get back here! Your wife's cheating on you!"
