Elaine went back to the house when she was sure Tom won't be at home again. She went into the room and realized he fetched water like he does every morning and she felt a pang of guilt that he had to leave to do his heavy work on an empty stomach. But, it's for the best. The lesser she sees him, the better for her.
She sluggishly prepared for the library and left when she was ready. She strolled down the streets with her head hung low. What could Thomas be thinking now? Does he remember his dream and knows now that he has a daughter? If he doesn't, then should she tell him? She heaved a deep sigh and continue with her walk."Hey Elaine, wait up" someone called and she turned to see her friends not friends running towards her. One was light haired and the other dark haired, they are the twins of Ian and Margret Foster, Acacia and Alicia "is it true?" The dark haired one asked when they caught up."Oh my God, he is so dreamy" giggled the light haired who is Alicia."Is whaThe day was Sunday, Tom will be back in the night but after taking the day he left and three extra days to think, she still doesn't want to meet him. Although she knows it will be unavoidable from now on, she still has to try. Maybe it's time to pay her mom a little visit. She groaned when she thought of what she was putting herself into by visiting her mom, but it's okay, she can live with it for a day or two, she can't say. She picked up her handbag and left the house. The long evening stroll was what she needed. It calmed her nerves and it reminded her of one of the reasons she loves Folktown. It's calmness at night and the chilling breeze, the flowery scents coming from the houses of those who owns a garden which always reminds her of her dream to have one but too bad, the soil at her place was not good for planting. She got to know that after trying five times but all her flowers and plants died before germinating. The night was still young and has a romantic vibe to it.
"Elaine, won't you be going to the library today?" Elaine heard her mom's voice coming from downstairs and she groaned. She had fallen asleep early in the morning and it felt like she had just closed her eyes before her mom's voice woke her up. She covered her ears with the pillow and tried to sleep more "Elaine Jackson, you need to be punctual with your work. Get your lazy ass off that bed now" Amelia didn't give up.A low groan left Elaine's lips once more as she opened her eyes, she knew her mom won't stop shouting until she sees her so she got out of bed and left her room. She grabbed the stairs handrails and glared at her mom who was standing at the foot of the stairs "I'm up, now what?""Won't you be opening the library today?"Elaine rolled her eyes and went back to her room. As much as she doesn't want to listen to her mom now, she knew she was right so she entered the bathroom and took a bath with the water there. She dressed up after the bath and it was when she r
Carlos silently made his way to the farm. He avoided going in to greet Lucy and went straight to the barn where he removed his shirt and started stacking the hays. No matter what, he had to keep himself busy to avoid thinking too much. That's if one will call, working absentmindedly not thinking too much.He was lost in thought that he didn't know when Lucy entered the barn, she smiled to him and walked closer "Tom" she called but he didn't answer, she reached out her hand to touch his sweaty shoulder and he jumped, his eyes on hers in a vigilant way that she felt herself flinch from his intense gaze "are you alright?"Carlos breathed out in relief when he saw it was her "I'm sorry Lucy, I didn't hear you enter" he apologized."I know" she nodded, her eyes not leaving him. Carlos turned his back on her as he continued with what he was doing "what's the matter Tom? You shouldn't be here. I'm sure Ben was not expecting you to work today because he himself fell on the
Elaine walked back to her family home at the end of the day, something tells her Tom is waiting for her but she is not ready to face him yet. Her little encounter with him at the library today was still fresh in her mind. The hurt in his voice still fresh in her heart. She pushed the thought of him away from her mind as she got to her family home. She pushed open the door, not expecting to see her mom home yet and closed the door gently after her. She walked up the stairs to her room, wanting to take a long bath to ease her nerves. She opened the bathroom and thank the stars that little Joshua, their neighbour, Mila's son fetched the water as always. She often wondered what her mom will do without him always there to help her.She took off her clothing and soaked herself in the cold water that seems to be what her body needs. She tied her hair in a bun and closed her eyes as different memories fought to be the first she remembers. She started by the night she first saw Tom,
When they got inside, Carlos closed the door behind him, Elaine walked forward and dropped her bag on the couch before turning to face him. He was just standing there, his back resting on the shut door, his arms crossed on his chest, his midnight blue eyes watching her intently, the lantern placed beside his right foot with the light casting a faint shadow on his face, making him look like a night god.She took in a deep breath and closed her eyes, she opened her eyes as she let out the breath, "I think we should talk."Carlos smiled faintly to the floor, "yes, but are you up to it now? We can leave it tomorrow.""No" she shook her head "it has to be now. You deserve to know the reason I'm avoiding you" she sighed "which have been very difficult.""Elaine...""Tom" she interrupted "I don't know why this is happening or why it happened but I'm glad it did, at least, it stopped me from delving deeper.""What are you talking about Elaine?"She sniffed and closed he
"Elaine?""Yes Tom?""Promise me that next time something bothers you, you will come to me and not run away from me. Can you do that?"She placed a light kiss on his lips as an answer before saying, "I promise" she looked up at him, their eyes clashed, his, a midnight blue that it was almost black because of the dimness in the room, hers, a deep brown. Their eyes spoke volumes to each other, a lot more than they have said to the other. Right now, he is a stranger to her, she doesn't know his full name or from whence he came from. She doesn't know his family or who he truly is. She doesn't know his back story or things he had done. She doesn't know what happened the night he came into the town or why he was in that state but one thing she knows is that, he loves her and she loves him just as much.He is her handsome mysterious stranger but she doesn't care, as long as they are together. She tilted her head upward and closed his lips with hers, he responded, with the sa
Carlos opened his eyes the next day, he turned to the side on the bed but only to meet an empty sheet. He jerked up immediately, his eyes scanning the whole room. When there was no sign of who he wanted to see, he jumped out of the bed, picked up his jeans from the floor and hastily put it on. He opened the bathroom door but it was empty and he left the room almost immediately."Elaine?" He called as he walked into the living room, his heart was in his throat. Did he say something else last night? Why did she leave him then?He heard a clanking sound coming from the kitchen, he quickly changed his direction to the kitchen and when he got there, he saw the figure he so longs to see. A smile graced his lips and he tiptoed quietly to her and hugged her from behind.Elaine shrieked, dropping the pot cover she was holding with a clanking sound. Carlos chuckled and nuzzle his face on her neck, his breath teasing her skin, his lips placed a soft kiss on her neck and he watched wit
Later that day, Carlos went home and waited for Elaine to come home. She was running a little late today and he figured she might have been busy. He ended up dozing off on the couch and only opened his eyes when he felt like someone was staring at him. His vision first blurred, slowly cleared off and he took in the face of his companion.A smile curved on his lips and he stretched out his hand and pulled her into his arms. Elaine chuckled but didn't struggle, she rest her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeats, "you must have been really tired today" she said."I was but not anymore. I have recharged my batteries."She chuckled "Ben didn't stress you that much did he?""You will be surprised to know that I didn't even see him throughout today. He was damn tired, I guess. Though Lucy kept me company most of the day.""I see, she really likes you.""I like her too. She is a good woman and a loving mother. Which makes me always feel bad for her for losing her
The wedding was a success. A week before the wedding, it was discovered that Elaine was pregnant. She was one month gone already. It all joined with the celebration for the Royal family.Carlos lived up to his promise, he provided transportation for all in Folk town who wanted to attend the wedding.Jasper on the other end swallowed his pride and attended, he had never been to a royal wedding before and he was not going to miss his only chance. Elaine and Carlos didn't even notice him or they pretended not to. There are things Carlos is way bigger than. After the wedding, Carlos gave Elaine her dream, a full grown garden with different types of flowers and a gardener to look after it for her. Elaine couldn't be happier and he never failed to gift her different types of wine almost every day. He didn't forget that she loves wine, but too bad she couldn’t take them because of her pregnancy so she just have a servant store them in the wine cellar for her, she will taste every
The next day, the townspeople gathered as their prestigious guests prepared to leave but this time with Tom who has now been known as Carlos the prince and Elaine, who is his fiancée as well as Amelia, her mother who couldn't stop smiling, even though her cheeks burned her.Everyone somehow found out from Angel that the day itself, was Carlo's birthday and a joyful birthday song was sang for him by all. As they got ready to leave, everyone said goodbye but not without telling them to visit again.Because of the cars they used and the wheels being handled by professional drivers, they arrived in Countryside by nightfall where they passed the night in a hotel. Their journey continued the next day and in two days time, they were back to their humble home. Carlos's home!Elaine and Amelia were mesmerized at the sight that befell them. They had always thought the mayor's house was the biggest they can see but the house before them seems to correspond with the whole of Folk
Tobias decided to suck up to the royal family and so he invited everyone to his home to be a better host to the king and queen and also to the prince who they had no idea was among them all these while and the young princess."You guys go ahead, I have a place to be first" Carlos said."Alright then, we will be waiting for you" William said as he turned with his wife to leave with the mayor and his family.Angel clung on to him and he knew no amount of what he said will make her follow their parents, so he let her be."Where are you going?" Elaine asked."To see Lucy and Ben."Sh made an 'oh' sound as he picked his sister up and they left.On getting to Ben's home, they saw Lucy sitting out in the verandah, she was surprised to see them and immediately stood up, "Tom, what happened? Hilary was here looking for you. He said the Mayor asked him to come call you and that there are people in the square who came with big cars and wants to see you" she explai
Carlos picked up her hands in his, "I wanted to gain your forgiveness and after that I will," he stood up and pulled her up with him before going down on his knees whilst still holding her hands, their eyes locked, "tell you how much I really, really love you and how I can't live without you. I might be a prince already but I want to be your prince charming. To look you in the eyes and ask the one question I never thought I would ask a woman in my life. The ability to make you mine forever and to rule by my side as my queen. Elaine, I know this is not a better setting and I don't have one of the important things with me at the moment but they said it's what that it's in the heart that counts. To my people, a prince never kneels for a woman, talk more of a crowned prince" he licked his lips nervously, "but to me, you are worth more than a royal pride. I know you deserve to be asked this question in my palace with dignitaries, prestigious families and socialites surrendering us, bu
The Queen's words brought everyone around to a certain realization. It's true, Carlos will marry Elaine won't he?The unmarried ladies were brought to a certain jealousy, why is it that Elaine gets the best? The mayor's son have been after her and now she has a prince at her feet. Why does she have all the important men following her around?Carlos paid no mind to the eyes that followed him as he left. He knew Elaine won't go back home neither did she leave in the direction of the library. He remembered Carol's words of her love to go to the lake when sad and so, he went directly to the lake. When he got there, he saw her squatting with her gaze locked on the lake, he need no one to tell him that she wasn't really looking at the lake. He gently approached her so as not to startle her.He paused, watching her before heaving a deep sigh, "I know I will find you here" he saw her flinch and knew he has her attention now, "Elaine" he paused, "I'm sorry. I know I shouldn't
Carlos looked at his father's chief advisor and nodded once at his greetings. No one could believe what they just heard, Prince Carlos? They thought his name is Tom?"A-a-are you saying he is your son?" Tobias asked shocked. First of all, he doesn't want to believe that the man he is looking at is the King of England. He had known two months ago that the Prince is missing but he never, never stop to think that the nobody Thomas in his town could be the missing Prince. Why is fate playing this joke on him?William looked at him and nodded, "yes, he is my son.""B-b-but his name is Thomas!""Apparently, it looks like he had lied to all of you about his identity and name" he looked around at the faces of the spectators "my son has never been the type to throw his identity around nor use it to order people around. Sometimes even though he thought I didn't know, he always wish he can go to a desolate town where he is unknown and live just like a nobody. I guess, he foun
The Mayor don't know why but this man gives him the willies, "actually, there is a stranger here but his name is not Carlos.""What's his name?""Em, I think...""Thomas" Jasper filled in."Yes that's it" the Mayor nodded."Thomas who?""That's the thing, no one knows. You see, he arrived here in a very sorry state and had lost his memories. He doesn't remember anything but his name.""I see" the man nodded once, "how long has this Thomas been with you?""It should be five months now right?" Tobias looked at the sheriff."Yes, it's five months now" he nodded. The man offered a rare smile, "what a coincidence. My son Carlos has been missing for five months too."Everyone gasped, this is more than a coincidence right?Elaine has arrived at the venue then, Mary pulled her to herself immediately, "where is Tom?" She whispered."At farmer Ben's farm, why?""This people are looking for their son named Carlos, they think he is here. Have you seen a
what's good for her. Elaine tried to explain things to her mother but Amelia didn't want to listen, then she dropped the statement to them, "I will never approve of your marriage should you want to get married because no daughter of mine will marry a complete nobody."She stormed out of the house then in a fit of anger. Well, let's just say Amelia was not the only one that thought like that. Almost the whole town did and the older ones blamed Tom for misleading their little Elaine. And they went back to seeing him as an outsider, a stranger amongst them.Elaine was affected by that but Tom wasn't. He doesn't have much long to stay there anywhere. Lucy and Ben supported their love and gave no shit about what the town says. Ben still goes everywhere with Tom and Lucy still sees him like her son. The two couples weren't at the birthday/engagement party and they were glad they weren't, if not, they feared what they might have said when Jasper was proposing.Carlos birthda
At those four words, Elaine thought she has gone deaf, her eyes scanned the room to her mother's who was mouthing 'yes' to her and nodding and then to Jasper's mother, Mira, who was smiling and nodding to her. It wasn't long, everyone was chanting "say Yes Elaine" some "you are meant to be from the start" her eyes then met the ones she wants to see, a pair of midnight blue eyes, at that moment, a series of feelings flashed in them and then, the owner blinked and walked out of the room. No one noticed him leaving but she did because at that moment, a tear dropped from her eyes. She is hesitating to say no, she is hesitating to turn him down, Carlos told himself as he walked away. It was all his fault, he shouldn't have forced her to come to the party. No, not that, it was his fault because he has been lying to her, because he has been keeping his identity a secret. Everyone sees him as a stranger, as a nobody here and of course, they won't allow their daughter to be with him, afte
