Shirley pov

Making the decision to start working in the art gallery seemed like the best decision I have ever made, I started to feel like myself again, it was like I was being reborn and I kept smiling like I used to.

Marissa and I got very close, though it seemed like there was something bothering her even though she didn’t want to tell me the truth about what was bothering her.

“Good morning mom,” Dylan greeted me with a bright smile on his face as he hugged me. It's been six days since Jackson got back and we haven’t said anything to each other, we either miss each other or just pass each other without saying anything.

I had a drawing that I needed to deliver so I didn’t have too much time to spend in the house with the kid. We both walked to the dinning to have breakfast together. I figured out he needed a nanny that would take care of him very well, which is why I hired Lisa.

She’s been doing a good job since I hired her, even though his dad is not yet aware of Lisa’s presen

Amelia povThe only thing he told me last night was that he needed to run an errand but he never returned to the house. I have been waiting since yesterday but he’s not back yet. I wonder what’s going on. I have tried calling several times but Felix is not picking his calls. I woke up two hours ago. At first I thought he was sleeping in the sitting room but it turned out he never returned to the house since last night. “What the hell is going on?” I asked myself as I was pacing around the room, I kept stopping myself from thinking he might be with her. I didn’t want to think to such an extent because it's only going to make me feel insecure.“Good morning grandma.” I greeted her with a smile on my face. “Good morning Amelia.” She replied with a warm smile on her face. “You look worried, what’s the problem?” She asked as she was handed her morning cup of coffee.“My husband did not return last night.” I said to her as she was sipping her cup of coffee. She stopped and raised her hea

Shirley's POV “Water,” I croaked as I opened my eyes from the annoying beeping sounds coming from the machines around me. I knew I was in a hospital. Why? I didn't know but I hoped someone would tell me soon. My whole body hurt like hell and my throat was dry. “Water,” I grunted and coughed in a bid to clear my throat but it didn't work. It felt like something was stuck there and wasn't coming out. The door opened and I leaned up to see my mother, Sharon walking in. “Oh dear, you're awake!” She rushed towards me and smiled. “How are you feeling?”“I need water Mum,” I groaned and she quickly poured me a glass from the jug sitting on the nightstand. “Hold on, let me help you sit up.” She placed one hand behind my head and the other was to support me as I struggled to sit up. “There you go,” I thanked her as I brought the glass to my lips and drank. “I'm sore all over. What happened?” She placed the glass on the nightstand and took a seat by the edge of the bed. “You don't remem

Shirley's POV “You're just a spare tire,” Amelia said. Her usually cool voice was now bitter as her eyes flashed with hatred. “What are you talking about?” I choked, refusing to believe it. She turned to my mother and smirked. “Mum, you want to do the honours?” Mum looked between two of us unsure but in the end, she sighed and walked up to us. “I'm sorry you had to find out this way Shirley but Amelia is my daughter.” My eyes widened and I coughed. “What are you saying?” “It's English Dumbo. You are just the adopted one and I had to pretend to be just your best friend so I didn't miss out on a donor for my failing kidneys.” She summarized and I staggered backwards. My ears began ringing badly and tears pricked the back of my eyes but I refused to give in. “So…let me guess, you all put on a good show so I'd willing donate my kidneys to you when the time came.” Amelia clapped her hands with a smirk. “Bingo! See? Now you're getting it.” I turned to look at Felix, my vision blurr

Shirley's POV I snapped out of my thoughts and pulled away just as the driver walked up to me. He frowned down at the little boy and pulled him away. “I apologise Miss but he must have confused you with someone else. He does this a lot so pay him no mind.” The little boy in question struggled against him and kept stretching to touch me. I sighed and leaned down, picking him up in my arms. Immediately his cries and protest stopped. “I'll just stay with him until he falls asleep.” The driver opened his mouth to argue but I shook my head. “If that's okay, of course,” I added as he struggled within himself. He gave me a curt nod and I smiled. “Could I get some dry clothes?” He sighed and nodded, motioning for me to continue walking. I adjusted the boy's head on my chest and started walking up the stairs again. Once we reached the top stairway, the little boy raised his head and pointed at a door. “That's your room mummy!” He yelled excitedly and started bouncing in my arms. I

Shirley's POV He chuckled, the sound both mocking and intimidating. “You won't,” I blinked. “Excuse me?” He cleared his throat. “You won't refuse because deep down you know you need my protection.” He stood up from the table and walked back to his seat. “You're all alone now. Your family and everyone you ever cared about betrayed you. Your whole life is a lie and you are angry. I can help you get revenge against them.” I sucked in a breath, his words opening up the wounds that were beginning to heal. And he was right, I was alone and didn't have anyone. “You can think about it but you don't have time. I do always get what I want and seeing as my little boy is convinced you're his mother, I will make sure it stays that way.” I shivered and swallowed. “I need to go and prepare for my day..” I whispered as I staggered to my feet. “You're attending Yvonne Steel's birthday party.” He announced and I whipped around in shock. Had he been stalking me or something? “Adam will take you

Third Person's POV Shirley felt like she was hallucinating or suffering from a hearing problem. “Uncle Jackson?” Felix muttered as he let go of my hand. “What are you doing here?” Jackson ignores him and turned to the woman who was standing there, looking utterly confused. “Darling would you like to retouch your makeup in the car?” Shirley stammered. “I…there's…sure.” She eventually gave in and allowed him lead her to the car. Amelia pinched Felix's hand and glared at Shirley's back, envy trimming in her eyes. “How does she even know him? Why would he want someone as plain as her?” Felix was too stunned to pick up on the jealousy in her voice. “I don't know. What is he even doing here?” He turned to ask his grandmother but found that she had walked off. He sighed and patted Amelia's arm. “I'm going inside. Are you coming?” Amelia bit her lip and stared at the luxury car parked in the driveway. She smirked as an evil plan formed in her mind. “I'll join you,” Felix nodded and

Shirley’s povThe next morning. I woke up very early in the morning and sat up on the bed while yawning with my hand covering my mouth. I suddenly had a flashback to what happened last night. My heart started beating faster than normal then I placed my hand on my chest. “I can’t believe he actually did that yesterday.” I muttered and placed my hand on my head feeling conflicted. The more I tried not to think about it the more it lingered in my mind. I heaved a sigh of worry, there were so many things to consider, which is why I was leaving more in accepting then rejecting it. Seeing how arrogant Amelia has become because she succeeded in getting Felix I thought life would be very difficult for me if I don’t accept him, they’re going to keep rubbing it in my face that they were able to hurt me. But considering what he does, Jackson is a dangerous Mafia, my life could be in danger living with him. I was getting frustrated and tired thinking about everything, I fell back on the bed

Third person povJackson was pissed to hear the kind of question Felix asked him. He turned to look at Felix and smirked. “So I look like a child that doesn’t know what he’s doing?” Jackson asked. His tone was so scary that even Shirley shivered a little. Felix quickly turned his straight face into a smile. “Uncle, I didn’t mean it that way, I was only wondering why you decided to rush the proposal, you don’t even know the kind of woman she is.” Shirley was fuming while listening to what Felix was saying to his uncle, she knew Jackson isn’t the type to be easily manipulated but words like that can put a seed of doubt in his mind, the only good thing is that the marriage isn’t real. “Felix can you stop!” Shirley yelled at the top of her voice, getting the immediate attention of everyone. Amelia smirked sheepishly the moment she heard Shirley. “Are you about to show everyone the real you?” Amelia asked. “What? Haven’t you two done enough, you are married now, can you stay out of my

Writer’s povIt’s been days now and Shirley has not heard anything from Jackson, he had neither tried to call her or even send a text to explain his reason for not telling her before traveling. Shirley thought there’s a limit to what she can accept from him and this threw her off completely. She decided to become useful too and think of what she can do because it’s getting even more boring with her being alone in the house so she decided to pay the art gallery a visit. She stood up from where she was sitting and stepped out of the house, she was on her way to the place when she saw a text message from one of her husband's boys that he had finally returned and he just drove into the house. Shirley was pissed instead of being happy when she saw the message. She didn’t think about him anymore like she used to, she had started getting over him and what he does doesn’t interest her anymore like it used to. She kept driving to where she was headed ahd after a very long drive she arrived a

Writer's povShirley was surprised Jackson could do so much for her just because it was her birthday. She couldn’t stop smiling while she was walking into the house with her flower. The main thing she couldn’t get over is the fact that her father remembered it’s her birthday and he had to be the first to wish her. Shirley didn’t know how to feel anymore, her marriage with Jackson was just so complicated and funny at the same time because one day he’s being mean and annoying and the next day he’s someone else she never even imagined him to be. While sitting on the bed she turned to look at the flower he got her as well. The gift he got for her was already more than what she got from Felix after spending up to five years together. *******It was already noon and Shirley was bored so she decided to step out, though Amelia wanted them to see each other but she didn’t want to go on her special day because it’s only going to make her moody the whole day instead of making her happy. “I r

Writer's povThe next morning, Jackson was the first to wake and he decided to take a walk around the environment because it has been a while since he did such a thing. He fixed his airpod and walked out of the house, while he was walking around he kept thinking about his ex-wife. Every time he decides to move on she just comes back to his mind. The way she smiled and the way she made sure she could do anything to make him happy. She was always the one trying to put everyone and everything in the right place and he couldn’t help but blame himself for not being able to reciprocate those feelings when she was with him, he was usually very strict towards her and never showed her how much he really cared about her. He realized he never told her he loved her even though he has wanted to say it to her so many times. Yesterday was an eye opener to him, he was able to see how much time had gone by and the realization hit him again that he will never see her again or hear her voice. “Shit

Shirley povI walked away angrily because I already had enough of her blabbing, I really couldn't stand her talking to me, she already did part of what she said she was going to do so it would be better for me to walk away and stop hearing her talk so much. “I'm so upset.” I muttered angrily and sat down at the other side so that I could calm my nerves and it will help me feel better as well. I stood up and started walking, I didn't know where I was headed the only thing that was on my mind was when Amelia and I were inseparable, memories like that made me happy back then but I don't know anymore if it's supposed to be a good or bad memory because I got to know that she never really liked me, she was only having fun deceiving me.“She must have had so much fun.” I muttered to myself and scoffed as I was struggling not to let the years fall. Every word she said back there hurt me really bad but I had to try and act like I was fine while listening to her. I realized I walked down to t

Shirley povThe memorial day had finally come and all the preparation was set and I would say Yvonne did a good job. Everything was so in Place and it was good enough to be called the last memorial party for Jackson’s ex-wife. We arrived at the mansion and walked into the house, guests were already arriving in the house and some of them were not aware of my marriage with Jackson, it was then I realized what Yvonne was trying to say when she told me she was doing everything for my own good because clearly it was really for my own good. Now they know that he’s married to me and the situation is getting less awkward than it was earlier. I was more concerned about how her family would react when they saw me. They might get upset when they see me because they refused to attend my wedding. “Are you okay?” Yvonne whispered in my ears and I turned to look at her immediately. She smiled when I looked at her. “I’m a little nervous, I don’t know how his ex-wife family would react when they s

Shirley’s povWhile we were on our way back to the house I couldn’t stop stealing glances at him trying to imagine how he was able to tell that I was having my school reunion today and he came without telling me and even came with a flower, I was so happy that I didn’t know what to say, I made sure that Amelia and no one else ruins the kind of happiness I was feeling because it’s something I have never felt in a very long time. I was very pleased that he took the initiative to be there and he was really caring all through the time he was there with me, he made sure I was comfortable and even came with a flower. I turned to look at him and realized he was looking at me so I looked away immediately feeling very shy. “I shouldn’t have turned.” I said to myself while I was feeling too shy to look towards his side again after meeting with his eyes a few seconds ago. “Why did you not tell me about the reunion?” He finally asked. I have been waiting for him to ask me a question or tell m

Writer’s povThe reunion was over before they knew it. They all headed back to their house and it was just Felix, Shirley, Jackson, Amelia and Micheal that were left on the table. “This has to be the worst day for me this week.” Amelia said with a faint smile on her face. She was so pissed and she wasn’t ready to hide it. She brushed her hand backwards, refusing to make eye contact with Shirley because she might try to do something stupid. “Why did you lie to them?” Shirley asked Amelia angrily. Amelia exhaled sharply when she heard what Shirley asked her. “Why do you always like to act highly of yourself? Why do you always have to make me feel so little?” Amelia asked Shirley angrily. Shirley was confused when she heard what Amelia said to her. “What are you talking about?” Shirley asked. She angrily stood up and walked to the toilet because she was not ready to start that conversation with Amelia. Jackson noticed what was going on even though he was having a not so friendly c
