Sean had been too greedy. He had Angeline, but now he wanted to compete with the Lawsons for space in her heart.

Sean leaned against the table when he saw the pleading look in Angeline's eyes.

He said softly, "Okay."

His voice held a violent, cold note despite sounding calm.

"I'll get back to work then. I'll have Lucy deliver lunch to you at noon—"

Angeline was interrupted by the sound of Sean's phone vibrating.

He turned around, picked up the phone with his back to Angeline, and said, "It's fine. I have an appointment with a client at noon."

He put the phone to his ear and began speaking to the person on the other end.

Angeline did not say anything else. She pushed her chair back in, adjusted her clothes, and left Sean's office.
