"What does it matter to me whether you believe me?" Angeline tucked her windswept hair behind her ear. Her eyes were bright and guileless. "I don't care what you think of me, Ned."

The blood drained from Ned's face, and his breathing sped up. His nostrils twitched as tears streamed down his face. He tentatively reached out a hand to hold Angeline's. "Don't say that, Angie, please. I know I made a mistake, but please don't give up on me!

"You promised you wouldn't ever leave me behind, Angie. You promised you'd always be by my side!" He held her hand tightly and looked up at her tearfully. "You don't have to care what I think, Angie. I have no thoughts! I just want you to give me a chance. Don't leave me!"

Before Angeline could say anything, he looked away from her and continued, "I know I'm not worthy of you now—not like this. I'll work hard, and I'll get better. I'll become worthy of you! Please, Angie, please. I can't live without you. You're my everything!"
