CALLIE

Lucas gestured for me to sit, looking very surprised as I carefully took a seat across from him at the long dining table. The maid stood by nervously, wringing her hands.

His gaze lingered on me, his expression softening in a way that unsettled me even more than his usual cold demeanor. Slowly, he reached across the table, his fingers brushing against mine before he took my hand in his. I had to fight the instinct to pull away. My heart raced, but I kept my face neutral, my breathing steady.

“Callie,” he began, “I know you hate me right now. I know you think I’m a monster and maybe I am, but everything I’ve done, everything, has been for you.”

I swallowed hard, forcing myself to meet his gaze. “For me?” I repeated, incredulous. “You call this love? Dragging me here, killing Sebastian… ” My voice cracked, and I stopped myself, biting my lip to hold back the tears.

His jaw tightened, but he didn’t let go of my hand. “I’m sorry,” he said softly. “I didn’t mean for things to go thi

SEBASTIANI knew she was going to be furious. I could feel it in the way she stiffened as we sat on the couch, the way her jaw clenched and her gaze darted between my face and her hands. And honestly, I couldn’t blame her. If the roles were reversed, I’d probably feel the same way. But I didn’t have a choice. Not if I wanted to protect her and bring Lucas down.“Callie,” I began cautiously. “I know you’re angry, and you have every right to be. But please, don’t let that anger get in the way of understanding why I did what I did. I need you to hear me out.”Her eyes narrowed, her lips pressing into a thin line. “Go on,” she replied.I sighed, running a hand through my hair. “Detective Nora had one of her agents go undercover as a maid at Lucas’s hideout. We thought it would be our way in… our way to monitor him, get intel, and take him down before he could do more damage. But things didn’t go as planned.”Callie’s brows furrowed, but she stayed silent, waiting for me to continue.“When

CHARLOTTEI pushed open the front door as quietly as I could. My heels barely made a sound on the tiled floor as I tiptoed toward the staircase, desperate to slip into my room unnoticed.“Charlotte.”The voice froze me in my tracks. My pulse quickened as I turned slowly, clutching my bag tightly to my side. There he was… my husband, sitting in his favorite chair in the parlor, the glow of the television illuminating his gaunt face.I forced a smile, though my heart pounded in my chest. “I didn’t realize you were still awake.”He leaned back, his frail frame sinking into the cushions, and cleared his throat. “Where were you?”I sighed, “I went out… to relax.”His eyes stayed on me for a moment, searching my face, but then he simply nodded. “Alright.”Alright? That was it? I couldn’t tell if he was too tired to argue or if he simply didn’t care anymore. He turned his attention back to the television, the news anchor’s voice filling the silence between us. “Sebastian and Callie will be h

His hands moved behind me, and with a gentle tug, my bra was undone. Before I could react, he pulled me closer, his lips pressing against the back of my neck. His hand slid up, gently cupping my breast, and my breath hitched."Oh, really?" I teased, trying to hide the shiver that ran through me. "I thought I just asked you to remove my bra."He smirked, his breath warm against my skin. "You’re too sexy for me to just stop at that," he murmured, his fingers brushing against me with a tenderness that made my heart race.I turned in his arms, raising an eyebrow as I met his gaze. "Alright, then." With a daring smile, I slid my hand down, slipping it inside his pants, feeling the heat of his skin under my fingers.Just as he was about to place his lips on mine, there was a sharp knock at the door.Sebastian groaned in frustration. SEBASTIANI stood up abruptly, the sudden movement making my father flinch slightly. I could feel his gaze burning into my back as I turned to leave."Is something wrong, Sebastian?" His voice cracked but I didn’t even glance back. "Nothing," I muttered. There was something about the flower Charlotte had given me that unsettled me, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. I didn’t need to explain it to him.I walked back into the room, my mind racing with different thoughts. I heard Callie’s soft gasp as I entered. Her wide eyes fixed on me, concerned.“What happened?” she asked.I didn’t answer right away, my focus entirely on the vase sitting on the table. The way Charlotte had presented it to me… the fake sweetness of it all, just didn’t sit right with me.Without a word, I grabbed the vase, and without hesitation, I slammed it onto the ground. The loud crack of glass shattering filled the room. The flower landed in pieces, petals strewn across the floor, but it wa

SEBASTIANThe motorcycle roared to a stop outside the house. I jumped off, pulling the wad of cash from my pocket and shoving it into the guy's hand."Thanks," I said breathlessly. The man pocketed the money, grinning. "Good luck with whatever you're running from, man." He revved the engine and sped off, leaving me in the dust.I stood there for a brief moment, catching my breath and steadying my racing heart. There were only ten minutes left. I had to move fast, but I also needed to play it cool. Charlotte couldn’t know that I was onto her.I forced myself to take a deep breath, composing my features before walking through the front door. My footsteps echoed faintly as I made my way up the staircase. Every second felt like an eternity as I approached my father’s room. The door creaked slightly as I opened it. My pulse quickened when I saw the vase sitting on the table by the window, just where Charlotte had left it. The bathroom door was closed, and I could hear the faint sound of ru

My skin prickled with unease. Finally, the door creaked open.I peeked through barely-opened eyes, careful not to move. Charlotte stood there, a heavy mask strapped over her nose and mouth. Her eyes scanned the room. “Sebastian?” she called. “Callie?”We didn’t move. She stepped further into the room, her smile growing wider. “Oh, you poor fools.” Her laughter was low and wicked, echoing through the silence. “I told you not to meddle, didn’t I? CHARLOTTEI stormed into the shop, my anger bubbling over. What the hell was going on? Everyone in the shop turned to look at me as I marched past them, my heels clicking sharply against the floor. I didn’t care who was watching. I was beyond pissed.Grega, a middle-aged man with a face I could barely stomach at this point, glanced up from behind the counter. He raised an eyebrow. “Come to my office,” he muttered, not even bothering to hide his annoyance.I didn’t hesitate. I followed him into the back office. As soon as the door slammed shut behind me, I whirled around, not bothering to hold back my fury.“What the hell, Greg?” I hissed, throwing my hands up in disbelief. “You made me look like a complete fool today. CHARLOTTEI glanced around, scanning the room. Something wasn’t right. The vase was gone. The damn vase that was supposed to have been there, but wasn’t. I froze for a moment, my heart racing. My mind raced faster.I quickly checked every corner, every shelf, hoping I had somehow missed it. But no. The vase was nowhere to be found. My hands trembled as I swept the room again. Nothing. No sign of it. Where the hell had it gone?I felt the panic rise in my chest, squeezing the air out of me. Had they found it? Had they discovered what I had done? My thoughts were spiraling out of control. I should’ve known something was off…bSebastian was always so meticulous. He would never leave his room unlocked unless something had already changed. My heart beat faster, thudding in my ears. The vase, the one thing that could explain everything, was gone. You could’ve spared me all the stress and drama.”He winced slightly, “I didn’t want to tell you because I knew you’d be scared. You wouldn’t have agreed to let my guy shoot her. Not here, not today.”I was about to retort when I glanced around, my gaze landing on the guests who still remained eerily silent. My heart tightened with a sudden wave of discomfort. “Wait… have the guests been informed about all of this? About what’s happening?”Sebastian gave me that damn smile of his, the one that made everything seem like it was under control. “Oh, they know. I had to tell them. I didn’t want there to be chaos when it all went down.”I narrowed my eyes. “You’re not serious,” I muttered, lightly hitting his head playfully. SEBASTIANI kept my eyes on the road, but my attention was mostly on Callie. She was sitting there quiet, her fingers tapping nervously against her knee. It was meant to make her forget all about that witch and focus on us.I glanced over at her, and for a moment, our eyes met. CALLIEThe bell chimed softly as we stepped into the cake shop, the rich scent of vanilla and chocolate filled the air. The baker, a cheerful woman in her forties with flour dusting her apron, welcomed us with a bright smile.“Good afternoon!” she greeted. “You must be the Thompsons?”“That’s us,” Sebastian replied, wrapping an arm around my waist. “Or at least, soon-to-be Thompsons.”I smiled, still thinking about my wedding dress. I had just bought my dream wedding gown… a simple but stunning straight dress. I couldn’t wait to wear it as I walked down the aisle to marry the man standing beside me.The baker ushered us to a cozy table near the counter, where a variety of cake samples had already been laid out. “Alright, let’s get started. These are some of our most popular flavors. Feel free to let me know if there’s something specific you’d like to try.”We sat down, and I immediately reached for a small fork, eager to dive in.
