"Xavier, you—"

Xavier burst into laughter before Sophie could say anything else.

"I just wanted to know what kind of man women usually like. It's really getting annoying because my parents have been urging me to get married.

"I just want to know if it would be hard for someone like me to get a woman. Why would my parents worry about me so much?"

Sophie finally understood why Xavier had asked her such a question. She hadn't expected someone like him to have such an issue. It was truly surprising.

Nevertheless, she gave the question some thought. Then, she said, "Of course, a man like you would be able to get a woman.

"You're well-educated, have a good job, and you're handsome and gentle. Women love men like you. Your parents must be overthinking it."

"Do you really think that about me?" Xavier's eyes were shining.

"Of course." Sophie nodded. She felt like Xavier was a very good man.

"Okay. I trust you."

"So, you should be more confident in yourself, Xavier."

It was like Mitchell didn't notice how stiff she was. He said naturally, "I'll head back with you.""But…"Sophie looked toward the ward. What about Mandy? Was he not going to stay with her?The questions ran through her mind, but she didn't dare to say them out loud. So, she nodded. "Okay."Perhaps she was just indulging in her own selfishness. It doesn't matter if he had forgotten or if there was some other reason. If he wasn't going to stay back with Mandy, she wasn't about to remind him to do so.With that thought, Sophie allowed Mitchell to drag her away. She even forgot about Xavier, who was standing next to them.As Xavier watched the two of them leave hand in hand, his expression darkened. There was a meaningful look in his eyes.Mitchell let go of Sophie's hand when they got to the parking lot. She was taken aback. She felt a sense of disappointment when he let go.As she stared at her palm in a daze, Mitchell said irritatedly, "Get in the car!"He was already in

"I wanted to wait for you to come home and eat dinner with you. But all of this is inedible now. Throw it out," Sophie said. "Why is it inedible?" Mitchell asked. Sophie opened her mouth, but she didn't know what to say. Should she say that she wasn't in the mood anymore? Or should she say that it was because the food had gone cold?"Take a seat."Before she could think of a reason, Mitchell pulled her to the table and sat her down. Then, he moved to the other side of the table and sat down. He picked up some cutlery and started to eat. She looked at him in a daze. She didn't know how to react. Noticing that she hadn't moved, Mitchell looked at her and asked, "Why aren't you eating?""I…" Sophie snapped back to reality. She saw that Mitchell was eating the food that had gone cold. So, she stopped him."Don't eat that. It's gone cold.""It's okay. It's still edible," Mitchell said nonchalantly. Then, he paused and said with a frown, "Never mind. You shouldn't eat th

Sophie took a deep breath and said, "I didn't know if you would have been able to take it if I had told you the truth. "Back then, your condition wasn't great, you know? Granny was very worried about you, and so was I.""And after that? You had many chances to tell me the truth for the past three years. Why didn't you tell me?""Because I had promised someone that I wouldn't tell you. Now, I've broken my promise. I don't want to keep it a secret from you anymore.""Who did you make a promise to?" Mitchell asked. But soon, he came up with the answer himself. "Granny?"Sophie kept quiet. But her silence was enough to tell him that he had guessed correctly. "Ha! What a good granddaughter-in-law you are." Mitchell scoffed. "So, who was the one who gave you the honey tea? Was it her too?""N-No." Seeing that he was getting the wrong idea, Sophie quickly explained, "That had nothing to do with Granny. She only found out after the incident.""If it wasn't her, then who else could it

Sophie had thought that Mitchell would trust Mandy without a doubt and be sure that she was the one slandering Mandy. But he had actually taken the effort to ask if she had any proof. "You can go and investigate."There were things that she couldn't find out, but he would be able to. It all just depended on whether he wanted to do it."Also…" Sophie took a deep breath to calm her emotions before continuing, "On the night of May 16th, at Horizon Hotel…"Sophie couldn't help but tremble when she recalled what had happened that night. Her face paled, but she still carried on. "That night, I—"Just as she mustered up enough courage to tell Mitchell what had happened on that fateful night, his phone rang. Sophie's confidence deflated like a pricked balloon. All the words she had been about to say suddenly escaped her. Mitchell picked up his phone and took a glance at Sophie. For some reason, she seemed to understand what the look meant. "Is it Ms. Gould?" she asked, smiling wryl

Mandy was shocked and whipped around instantly. "Why are you here?" she exclaimed in surprise."Of course it's because I've missed you." The man, James Hart, walked up to Mandy, picked up a strand of her hair, and twirled it around his finger. "What? Don't you miss me too?"Mandy's expression shifted subtly, and she tensed up all over. "Get lost!" she shouted furiously."Ha! Do you really want me to get lost?" James' eyes turned cold, and the smile faded from his face. Suddenly, he exuded a dangerous, chilly air. Mandy shuddered and bit her lip, not saying a word. James released the strand of hair around his finger and turned to leave without any hesitation. When Mandy saw him walking toward the door, she couldn't control herself and shouted, "Stand right there!"James turned around and faced her once more. However, he didn't walk toward her. Instead, leaning his back against the door, he asked, "Why should I?"Mandy's expression soured as she sank her teeth into her lowe

Sophie had to admit that, deep down, she had been hoping that Mitchell wouldn't go to Mandy. However, she had used up all the courage she could muster to tug on Mitchell's arm. She hadn't been able to find it in her to say anything to stop him from leaving. Sophie hadn't expected him to understand the look in her eyes. Joy and delight welled up within her. Had he turned Mandy down because she didn't want him to go? So could she take it that he actually cared about her feelings, even if just slightly?"Right, you mentioned the Horizon Hotel earlier on. What happened that night?" Mitchell suddenly asked.Sophie's heart clenched, and her expression changed immediately. After being deterred again and again, Sophie could no longer find the courage within her. She no longer had the nerve to tell him about what had happened. "What's wrong?" Mitchell asked, sensing the change in her expression."It's… it's nothing. I… I'll go back and rest." Then, she hurried away. When she got

Sophie had wanted to hear what Mitchell had to say, but he didn't carry on after quite some time, so she slipped off into a deep slumber. When she woke up again, it was already the next morning. As she recalled what she had heard the night before, she quickly turned around to look beside her. However, all that was left was an empty space. There was no one there anymore. Could she have been dreaming? Sophie couldn't help but feel dejected. But just as she pulled the covers off and pushed herself to get out of bed, she felt the warmth in the space beside her.Clearly, someone had slept there and had just left not too long ago. Had Mitchell really slept there last night? That thought swept all the dejection out of Sophie, and she quickly freshened up before heading downstairs. Harold and the rest of the household staff had resumed their work as usual. When Harold saw her coming down the stairs, he smiled and greeted her, "Good morning, Ms. Sophie.""Morning," Sophie repli
