Damon actually tracked Eva back to her apartment. He knew she didn’t like how the shower at the lake house didn’t have any shampoo or soaps. So, she’d need to clean up properly when she got back to the packhouse. Right about now, he had an intriguing idea of helping her with that shower. Though he wasn’t sure how she’d respond to that. So, instead of barging in on her, he knocked and waited for her to open the door.
The door swung open quickly for him to see Eva standing there dripping wet with a towel wrapped around. He thought the towel was sexier than her opening the door wearing nothing. The steamy scent of her fresh from a hot shower assailed his nose in a delightfully addictive way. His well-intentioned plans went up in smoke when she pulled him into her apartment by the front of his shirt. She di
James listened to the phone ring. His mother informed him he needed to take over the mess he made and fix it. Which was true. This was an experience for him. James didn’t miss the irony that it started from something Emily did, rather than himself. So, if reason held true, it was his turn to clean it up. This was long overdue in their relationship. If you asked him three weeks ago, he’d have told the person telling him this that they were insane to believe it. That everything worked just fine the way it was. Now he’d found the time to think about it and the quiet to listen, really. He couldn’t believe what he saw now. How stunted he’d become in maturing. Sadly, James now saw that he was just as guilty as the others he blamed.
Thomas struggled to stay relaxed in the vehicle's darkness. Asia sat beside him. He could smell her distinctive scent and it was driving his instincts wild within this enclosed space. But she wouldn’t even look at him. Now they sat there as the vehicle moved toward her domain. Thomas couldn’t help but feel like he was in this situation from the aspect of a weakened position. Her silence only made him question his decision to try this method of fixing things. He was about to break the silence when his phone rang. Thomas went to see who it was and silence it when Asia’s hand blocked his. She answered it for him in video chat. Frowning at her as she leaned back in her seat and waved at him encouragingly to take the call.He was in no p
Haden watched Janine’s wolf chase a rabbit through the woods on the way back to the packhouse. She was playing with the fluffy herbivore. Neither was hungry, he was sure of that after all the s’mores they’d eaten and dinner. But they needed time together. He knew she needed it to form a sense of trust between them, and he was sure she’d open up to him once that trust formed.Once they’d shifted back to their human forms that didn’t bother to dress. Rather, they carried their clothes with them as they took the back stairs up to his apartment. “Come in and have a nightcap. We can relax and talk.”“I’m not dressed for that.” Janine looked scandalized at the thought. It was one thing to walk to their apartments naked. It was another to spend time in his apartment the same way.“We’re grown adults and everyone’s
Damon awoke with Eva beside him. His phone rang on the floor. His phone was in his pants pocket, and so he scrambled to the floor in the dark to search for it. “Who’s that at his hour?” “That ring you need to learn. That’s the ring for Alpha Thomas. Hello? Yes, Alpha. How can I help you?” Damon sat on the cold floor naked, with the phone to his ear. “Yes, sir, she’s here. Really? Yes, I got her to agree. No, we've not.” Eva watched him in the faded gloom as he spoke to the stranger that would soon enough to be her alpha. Gods, when did everything change? Just days ago, she was fleeing hunters and a stalker. Now she lay here with a man who’d become her mate soon enough. Crap, she needed to tell h
James found Emily attempting to hide in that little room she called her domain. It was supposed to be her office as Beta. But Evan decided he wanted something smaller and less like a sitting room. So he now made his office on the upper floor near the top of the stairs. “Hey, can we talk?” “I’m not sure what do you want to talk about?” Emily wasn’t sure how to take any of this. She hated giving him the cold shoulder, but she wasn’t ready to forget completely and forgive yet, either. “Come in. I need to put this down. It’s too hot. Close the door and tell me what’s you’re so eager to talk about.” “We
“Well, that’s done. I have the name and information of the girl willing to take over the contract. The alpha who made this mess now knows he’s skated out of this scot-free. Things are slowly winding down. I guess.” Thomas sat there as the car pulled up into Asia’s territory. He’d not been there in years, but it hadn’t changed in that time. “Oh, I don’t know. I feel sorry for James and Emily. They deserve something better.” Asia’s face screwed up in thought as she tried to express to Thomas what she was thinking. “Oh gods! What have you got in mind? Asia, please tell me you aren’t planning something.” Thomas watched Asia in mock horror. This was the woman he knew for years
Janine awoke to a pale light glaring through the curtains and directly into her eyes. She cursed to herself, thinking she’d forgotten to close them again. But stopped herself from doing more than shielding her eyes as she felt a heavy arm across her breasts. One large handheld one of them in its grasp. Janine couldn’t stop herself from expressing an enormous sigh of regret before she looked up into the man’s face. There wasn’t a question about who it was. Haden lay there beside her, possessively holding onto her. If he hadn’t told her at dinner last night that he intended to keep this up, then how he held her in his sleep told her everything she needed to know. But it still didn’t put her in a good light with the pack. It was one thing that her son might suspect about this, but if the pack knew. W
Damon woke up to a series of messages from several of his pack mates. They all wanted to know where their alpha was. It appeared things weren’t going well at home with the person Thomas put into power. He should have expected this. It happened every time they both needed to go to a summit or some such event. One of them would need to deal with things at home. “What’s wrong? Your phone is popping and pinging like a bowl of cereal.” “Yeah, looks like they don’t like a few changes, and several are begging me to come home to fix it.” Damon watched his screen after he’d responded to the third message of the morning. As soon as he dealt with one message, two more would crop up. What was going on? It wasn’t
