I wanted to suggest he lie down while getting the IV, thinking it'd be more comfortable given his fever. But the way he looked at me left me feeling strangely compelled, so instead, I nodded and said, "We'll head home once the IV is done."

Luke seemed satisfied with that, and a slight smile flickered across his face, disappearing before I could fully register it.

After asking the doctor for directions, I helped Luke into the elevator and down to the infusion room on the first floor. There were only a few people getting IVs at this hour. Luke's legs were weak, so I guided him to a seat near the door.

Even with a high fever, Luke's composure was remarkable. He showed no signs of discomfort, sitting there casually, with a hint of laziness—just like he always did. If it weren't for the flushed color of his fa
