When the bandages were taken off my face, Wendy playfully poked my cheek and asked, "Honey, is your face swollen because the wound hasn't fully healed yet?"

"The doctor told me today during rounds that my wound is healing nicely." I had examined my injured left cheek in the mirror; the unsightly black scab had fallen off, leaving behind a pink scar. The doctor had assured me that the scar would gradually fade and could potentially be removed through cosmetic treatment.
