Chapter 4

“I’ll… kill Cooper!” Bloodthirst fleeted across Tyler’s eyes.

To his surprise, Kelsey simply shrugged nonchalantly.

“Then kill him.”

In her last life, Cooper lied, manipulated, and finally brutally murdered her.

Cooper was horrifically heartless.

Kelsey could not wait to tear the brutal man apart with her bare hands.

Tyler narrowed his eyes in disbelief. “What did you say?”

Kelsey replied aloofly, “Go ahead and kill him. Don’t let me be the reason you hold back.”

If personal revenge was not the ultimate goal, she would unleash Tyler on Cooper right that instance.

Tyler’s gaze fixed on her indifferent face.

His thoughts were once again confirmed that Kelsey was different than before.

Tyler’s Rolls Royce pulled up outside the Youngs’ residence.

“Bye now.”

Kelsey glanced out the car window, ready to get off.

As her hand reached for the door handle, Tyler grabbed her by the wrist.

Before Kelsey knew it, Tyler held her down on the cushion of the back seat.

He kissed her deeply and savagely.

With unyielding force, he wedged through her teeth and locked tongues with her.

He was like a predator making his territory, staking his claim with the possessive and lingering kiss.

The air in the small space thickened with sweltering tension.

Time seemed to stop until Tyler’s musky, intoxicating scent retreated from her senses.

Kelsey blinked and darted to open the door and get out of the car.

Just before she shut the door behind her, Tyler uttered in a raspy voice, “I’ll pick you up tomorrow night.”

His sultry tone painted Kelsey’s already blushing face crimson.

Without answering him, she slammed the car door shut and scurried away.

When Kelsey stepped into the house, the household help said, “You’re back at last, Ms. Young. Your father is furious.”

Kelsey knew exactly why her father was angry.

In her last life, when Kelsey returned home from spending the night with Tyler, her father, Charlie Young, received news that the Lang Group had severed all ties with the Youngs. Kelsey admitted then that she had reached an agreement with Tyler to break off the engagement.

In the heat of a moment, Charlie slapped her and declared his intention to revoke her inheritance rights, raising his illegitimate daughter, Josephine, as his heir instead.

Kelsey would not be so foolish as to let Josephine swoop in to take what was rightfully hers in this life.

“Dad!”

Kelsey strutted into the villa and found Charlie sitting angrily in the living room.

Standing next to him was his lover, Megan Ferrel, and his daughter out of wedlock, Josephine Young.

Since Kelsey’s mother fell ill, Megan and Josephine started running the house like they owned the place.

It was likely they would move in when her mother succumbed to her illness.

“You have the nerve to come home.” Charlie pounded the table furiously. “Do you know that the Lang Group has withdrawn all partnerships with our company?”

Kelsey blinked innocently. “Is that so?”

In her past life, Tyler did end all business dealings with the Youngs when she cut ties with him.

However, Kelsey could not possibly let the same thing happen again.

Megan lectured Kelsey hypocritically, “Not to be mean, Kelsey, but your father was only looking out for you by giving your hand in marriage to Tyler. How could you be so stubborn to break things off with Tyler because of Cooper? Have you thought about how your decision might impact your father and the family business?”

Josephine stood up for Kelsey. “Can you just stay out of it, Mom? Kels loves Cooper. Why must you and Dad force her to marry someone she doesn’t love?”

Kelsey watched as the mother and daughter played off each other.

They were playing good cop, bad cop.

To think Kelsey was so naïve in her previous life to see Megan and Josephine for who they really were.

Blinded by naive trust, Kelsey mistook Josephine’s retaliation against her mother as genuine support for her own well-being.

Charlie yelled, “Enough. Don’t be a fool like your sister.”

He glared at Josephine.

Megan put on an ingratiating smile. “Don’t be mad, Charlie. Take slow, deep breaths.”

She calmed Charlie down before shooting a resentful and angry look at Kelsey. “Why did you have to get your father worked up, Kelsey?”

Kelsey sneered.

Charlie was yelling at Josephine earlier, but Megan managed to turn it around and put the blame on her.

“The Lang Group won’t terminate their contracts with us, Dad. It’s all a misunderstanding,” Kelsey said.

Charlie was taken aback.

He looked rather skeptical.

Megan refuted, “How can you say that it’s a misunderstanding? Do you think you can change Tyler’s mind so easily? He won’t work with us anymore now that you have broken off the engagement with him.”

Kelsey asked, “When did I ever say that I’m calling off the engagement?”

Megan hid the emotions behind her eyes. “Didn’t you?”

Kelsey put on an innocent face. “I’m Daddy’s little girl. The marriage was Dad’s idea, so I won’t go behind his back and call it quits with Tyler without my dad’s permission. Where did you get the idea from?”

“I…” Megan peeked at Josephine.

She heard it from her precious daughter, Josephine.

Josephine had lied her way to acquire Kelsey’s trust.

She had pretended not to get along with her mother and sided with Kelsey.

Before, Kelsey let her guard down on her half-sister and shared secrets with her.

Kelsey told Josephine that she had begged Tyler to cancel the engagement.

If Megan were to admit her source was Josephine, it would expose the feigned discord between the mother and daughter as a mere act to deceive Kelsey.

Megan was speechless.

Kelsey stared coldly at her and revealed, “Perhaps you hope that I would break off the engagement with Tyler so that your precious daughter could replace me, Megan.”

With Kelsey’s remark hitting a raw nerve, Megan gave Charlie a nervous glance.

She shook her head and rebutted, “No, don’t put words in my mouth!”

Josephine played innocent. “How could you think that of me, Kels? I have always cheered you and Cooper on.”

She looked delicate and hurt as if Kelsey got the wrong idea about her.

Kelsey would have felt bad and relented to Josephine in the past.

Now, she would no longer be fooled by her façade.

“Nothing is going on between me and Cooper. Why would I break the engagement with Tyler for him? Are you delusional? Why do you keep talking about Cooper? Are you hoping that I would date Cooper?” Kelsey grilled.

Charlie warned solemnly, “Don’t encourage your sister to get with Cooper.”

Tearing up, Josephine explained desperately, “I didn’t, Dad!”

Megan went straight to find a way to get her daughter out of the fix.

“Ah!” She exclaimed while pointing at the blemish on Kelsey’s neck. “What’s that on your neck, Kelsey?”
