Lydia started nervously, she was anxious to meet his father, but realizing that he was a billionaire made her more unsure about it.

She was an orphan with a child, a pending divorce, and working as an assistant. No wealthy father would want his son to be with a woman with such a compromising and complicated life.

Lydia doubted if she would be able to handle the criticism, even from his Grandpa.

Her silence made Carson's smirk vanish. He asked; “Do you have any problem with seeing my father? My father and I might have disagreements, but he's a good man.”

“I believe you, but being good doesn't stop anyone from criticizing other people. I was willing to meet your Grandpa because of your kindness to me and the relationship was fake but now, our relationship is more real than ever” Lydia said and lowered her gaze to stare at the food in front of her.

“Any opinion your father has will certainly affect us” She added and let out a sad sigh.

Carson unexpectedly smiled and lifted her chin

Night came, but Lydia and Carson were still at home, dressing up in the same room. Lydia was putting on a dress and had yet to apply makeup to her face. “How long will I stay at home? I feel bored already” Lydia questioned and stared at her beautiful reflection in front of the mirror. The dark red colored dress suited her so well.“As long as required until you fully recover and I can ascertain your security. Dad can find a temporary replacement because you won't be going to work anytime soon” Carson said and pretended that he was struggling with his tie.Lydia wanted to argue but was interrupted by his request. “Can you help me with this?” Carson asked with a sneaky smirk playing on his lips. His eyes were staring at her body with burning passion in them. She looked too beautiful to be ignored. Lydia smiled and walked to him, she held his tie and helped him in knotting it. “ You're so perfect” Lydia complimented and kissed his lips, softly. “If you continue with this constant l

George let out a deep breath and banged his hands on the steering wheel for the last time. He had different thoughts running through his mind. The thought of how he was going to end Carson once and for all and then claim Lydia all to himself. The mere breathing of Carson annoyed him. He wanted to terminate his existence, that was how angry and jealous he was. Moreover, he was more handsome than him, and always had his way with words. He seemed like the perfect man, that was why Lydia fell for him. “Just wait and see, your death is near, I promise you that” He frowned his lips deeply and inhaled. He pressed a button and his car trunk opened. He got out of the car and went to get the gift he had brought. After taking the present, he closed the trunk and locked his car. He left from there and went back to the venue. Everyone presented their gifts to Mr. King, who happily collected them. Carson and George were the last two to submit their gifts. Carson was about to drop his presen

Alma sobbed harder in her father's arms. Felix held his daughter tightly, he hated it when someone made her cry. He always made them suffer for whatever pain she went through. She was his only child and a resemblance to her mother, she was too special to him. Felix stroked her hair and then kissed it. When she wouldn't stop sobbing, he patted her back gently. “It's okay, Daddy will make them pay dearly for it, but…” Hearing a 'but' in his sentence, Alma quickly raised her head and stared at her father with fierce eyes. “But what?” Alma sniffed and pouted her lips. Felix gently held her arms and moved her away from him. “I'm an electoral candidate for the position of governor, you don't expect me to taint my image at this time. It's a critical period for me and people are watching, the press is looking for topics in their headlines. I'm not going to be a victim” Felix said, reasonably. “Daddy…how can you say this to me? I'm your only daughter, and the best thing you can do is d

Lydia's hands flew to her mouth and tears rolled down her cheeks, she was so shocked. “Will you marry me?” Carson repeated, hoping that she would accept his proposal. Though he wouldn't be angry, if she rejected him in front of everyone, he wished that she wouldn't decline. Lydia laughed despite the tears that were trickling down her eyes. The whole room was quiet even the music and dance had stopped, everyone was waiting for her response. “Is that even a question? Of course, I will marry you, any day or time, without any hesitation” Lydia said and laughed heartily. Carson unknowingly heaved a sigh of relief and smiled at her. He took her hand and wore the ring on her finger. The guests around smiled, cheered, and clapped their hands.Carson stood to his feet and kissed her lips gently. The clapping intensified. George was so astonished, he never expected Carson to propose to Lydia. Lydia was still his wife, and this had rubbed salt on his injury. Not only were they in a relat

Carson stopped the car at the side of the road and raised Lydia's chin. He stared into her eyes as he spoke, “I should be ashamed for not proposing earlier. I was the stupid one who didn't believe in love. You're worth every love that you receive, you should stop thinking so low about yourself.” Carson muttered and brought her face closer to his. She exhaled, and her lips curved into a smile. She kissed his lips with a smile. They sucked on each other's lips for some seconds, then parted. They looked so adorable together. Carson started the car and placed his hands on the steering wheel. “Future Mrs. Walters, where should I take you?” He asked, teasingly. “Wait” Lydia mumbled and undid her seat belt. She unlocked the car door and stepped out of it. Carson was confused. He watched as she went to the back seat. “Okay, chauffeur. Take me to my house” Lydia ordered with a funny expression. “Chauffeur??” Carson stared at her in disbelief before chuckling.“Since you want to play,

Grandpa Walters' question stirred some creepy feelings within them. Mr. Ray completely understood his father because the company truly had dangerous enemies who would do anything to claim the company as theirs. There were still debtors who might be presently ganging up against the company, willing to take it down. Even though his father was right, he couldn't allow Lydia to become discouraged. “Father, you shouldn't scare Lydia like that. Those dangerous enemies have not been able to do anything in years because they've failed in all their attempts. I believe that Lydia is an intelligent woman and those enemies would certainly be handled by her'' Mr. Ray said and smiled at Lydia. Lydia was alarmed by Grandpa Walters' question, but Mr. Ray's words sort of comforted her that things weren't that terrible. “Dad, Lydia has a daughter and our upcoming wedding, don't you think the burdens on her shoulders would be too much to bear? I'm not doubting the abilities of my future wife, but

George left the couch and went behind it to carry her from the floor. He tapped her cheeks a few times, but she didn't respond. He ended up taking her to the couch and bringing some alcohol. He put some drops on a little towel and then placed it close to her nostrils. After inhaling it for a while, she moved her head away and her eyelashes moved, though they were still closed.“Alma, wake up already” George urged and shook her a bit. “Alma!” Alma shook her head and finally awakened. She sat up and began crying. George was perplexed and asked; “Why are you crying?”Alma glared at him and replied; “Is that a sensible question? Can't you see that she's going to be the owner of a billion-dollar company? She would have a company larger than yours, she would be controlling the wealth, income, and fate of thousands of people!.” “I'll never be able to achieve that except if my father wins that election. Just imagine Lydia, that stupid and pitiable orphan, having so much power in her hand

Mr. Edwards adjusted his tie, the threats were too much for him to handle. He wanted to ask the person what he had against his new boss, but he dared not ask with such evidence against him. George hung up, and Mr. Edwards was left in his thoughts. He didn't hate Lydia and even liked her as his new boss because she was nicer and even more intelligent than Mr. Ray. He loved her strategies and her manner of approach was so kind and decent, she treated her workers like friends. “Miss Lydia, I'm so sorry.” Mr. Edwards sighed and palmed his face. He dropped his phone on the table, but it beeped. He checked it, and it was a message from George. “You better do it right now, don't you dare waste time” Mr. Edwards read and his heart trembled. “Oh my goodness.” ****George's mansion. George dropped his phone and smiled at Alma. “The deed has been done, all we have to do is wait for the results.” George smiled at her. The next morning, Lydia woke up by Carson's side. She had a beautiful and joyful smile on her lips. Waking up by his side was the most amazing thing ever, and the scent of cologne was still on him. She brought her nose close to his chest and nuzzled him. Lydia grinned and raised her hand, she stared at the beautiful ring. “My name is Mrs. Lydia Walters' Lydia chuckled and kissed her ring. “It's so beautiful.” She was still staring at her ring when she suddenly had the urge to vomit, she touched her stomach as it churned. “Did I eat something wrong yesterday? Lydia pouted her lips. The nauseating feeling stopped for a while, but then the bile rushed up her throat and she couldn't keep it in. She rushed out of the bed and threw up into the sink. The sounds of vomiting woke Carson up. He wanted to sleep back but realized something was wrong with his wife. He sat up and rubbed his eyes. He asked her, worriedly. “Love, are you alright?” He still heard her throwing up and had to

Carson turned back with a little smile on his lips, his threats had worked. He wasn't planning on doing any of those things he said, but he decided to act as one of the bad guys. One can't stick to a technique and tactic all the time. Carson returned to his seat and called a prison warder inside to listen to what he had said. Carson also brought out his phone and decided to make a recording. “Can you repeat what you had said?” Carson requested. The man sighed and said everything that had transpired between him and Alma. Carson was delighted and left from there as the warder was taken away. He was going to face his penalty. Carson contacted the police to visit George's house where Alma stayed and also to arrest Felix in his house. Carson planned on also releasing the recording through his Father's connections. It would be anonymous and would ruin Felix's chances of becoming the governor. Carson was excited about his plans but would execute them after they were both arrested fo

George had killed a man, strangled him during the traffic, and taken his cab as a means of transportation. Presently, he walked to Mrs. Isobel's limp body and carried her into the back seat of the cab. He closed the door and entered the front seat. He wasn't ready to drive her anywhere in particular, he would make sure that he was far from a place where the cops could find him. He would question her in the car, but he had to wait till she awakened. He had planned to lie to Alma that he couldn't stand the boredom and had to leave the cabin. Anyway, she believed every lie he spoke.George drove for a long while before parking near a certain roadside, he waited till she awakened, which happened a few minutes after the drive. “Hm,” Mrs. Isobel moaned in pain. She felt a pounding pain in the back of her head, her hand reached for it and there was a little bloodstain. “Oh my God” She cried and slowly sat up, her blurry eyes cleared little by little. “Who are you?” Mrs. Isobel asked i

“Why are you smirking? Do you find the situation amusing or what?” Alma frowned at him. “I'm sorry, but I've thought about my decision, and I'm ready to accept your suggestion for plastic surgery,” George stuttered.Alma screamed excitedly and hugged him tightly.“That's the spirit, I'm so glad that you have thought more carefully about my proposal. I promise you that once you do this surgery and probably practice how to change other things about yourself. Everything would be great” Alma giggled. “The cops would be off your back and the both of us can travel the world after our wedding.” George rolled his eyes but faked a laugh. “I won't do the surgery now, give me some time to have my face then after a few days from now, I can do the surgery” George smiled and pushed her away from him. “I'm so happy” Alma clapped excitedly and tilted her head from side to side like a child. “I'm not too happy about losing my handsome face, but it's worth the change,” George said and acted like

“No, I'm not interested in altering my appearance” George disagreed firmly. “Why? It's a suitable option for you never to be found, why would you lose such a chance, just to stay locked up in this wretched cabin” Alma argued with him. “I'm not interested in continuing the conversation, I won't change my appearance to fort anything in this world. The best thing I love seeing when I look at my reflection in the mirror is my face and nothing more” George said and turned his face away from her. Alma gasped and was offended by his selfishness. “I want you to have a free life, we can fake your death that you were found and killed. It would make a lot of sense when I start dating the new you. Why are you acting so selfishly towards me?” Alma said, her voice cracking at the end of her statement. “I'm not being selfish but standing by my own rules. I get that you went the extra mile to bring me out of jail, but that doesn't give you the right to order me around” George frowned. Alma gasp

“What did you just say?” Lydia panicked and sprang up. That news was so unexpected and shocking, she never expected to hear that the man who had ruined her life was out of prison, free to do the unimaginable. “How did he come out of prison? What exactly happened?” Evelyn asked, worried over the safety of Lydia. Carson shook his head. “I still don't know, but I'm going to that fucking prison to find out.” “How can he escape in just a week of being there? Many people have spent a decade trying to escape prison but haven't been able to, how can he make it seem so easy?” Evelyn asked questions that couldn't be answered by any of them. “The kids, we left the kids alone,” Lydia said agitated, and tried running out of the church. Carson held her back and pulled her into a hug. She was anxious, and her breathing had fastened like she was on the verge of having a panic attack. “There's nothing to be scared about, the children are secured, but George can be capricious. The kids were done with their exams, and they were at home. It was the weekend, Saturday specifically, and Lydia stayed at home. The kids weren't easy to control at all, Lydia realized how much they refused to listen to her. They listened more to Mrs. Isobel. This made Lydia a bit jealous and angry. She had to give Mrs. Isobel some hours off so that she could take care of the kids herself. “Both of you, sit down!” Lydia instructed and pointed at the couch. Gary and Khloé went to have a sit, seeing that their mother was more serious than ever. “It's not good to prove stubborn towards your parents, it causes sadness. Do you want Mommy to be sad?” Lydia pouted at her lips after speaking. They both shook their heads. “Alright, since you don't want me to be sad, then listen,” Lydia said. “It's truly depressing when I keep talking and you both keep disrespecting me by not listening!” “What are you supposed to do?” Lydia asked, looking angry, though she wasn't so angry. She simply w
