“Oops! Pfft.” A sticky drink splashed onto Alicia’s clothes, soaking the top and the bottom of her pale blonde hair. The one who intentionally bumped into and spilt the orange juice on Alicia was none other than her twin sister, the ‘meek’, ‘innocent’ and beautiful Darci. “I’m so sorry! I didn’t see you there!”
Alicia looked down at her white shirt, now ruined from the juice and returned her icy gaze to the girl who wrapped everyone around her little finger. Everybody in school, the pack, and at home adored her. She was lovable and beautiful and acted like a saint in front of everyone, but she was a snake in disguise. It must be pretty tiring to act so innocent all the time, Alicia mused.
“Seriously, don’t be angry with me, little sis!” Darci continued, her blue eyes twinkling in amusement, yet to others, she looked close to tears. “Here!” She pulled out a pack of tissues from her clutch bag and held them out for Alicia to take.
“Don’t waste your tissues on her, Darci. It was her fault for bumping into you! Look, she doesn’t look sorry at all!” Penelope, Darci’s friend and one of her many lackeys who surrounded Darci, raised her voice, attracting more attention to such a simple incident. “Watch where you’re going!”
Penelope prodded a finger into Alicia’s chest, the hit bruising due to the girl’s werewolf strength. Not wishing to deal with such idiocy and refusing to waste time anymore on this ridiculous drama, Alicia wordlessly turned away, not even acknowledging their presence. It was better not to engage with them, especially when Darci would somehow use her responses to her advantage, deeming Alicia to be the baddie here.
This, however, enraged the other she-wolves more, and they began their usual shouts of insults.
"Wolfless! Stinks as bad as a vampire!"
"She has no vampire teeth! Just as useless as a human!!! Can you imagine Beta's daughter being the only omega without a wolf? Alicia’s pollution! She’ll pollute our pack with her dirty blood! I doubt we will remain dominant among all other species after that!”
"BEGGAR! Get out of the pack! If you have any self-respect, you should break your bond with the pack on your own accord!"
Others joined in with the mean girls, their red eyes gleaming as they continued spitting insults at Alicia. Since the war 30 years ago, all other species, witches, human, vampire and anything that wasn’t a werewolf became the target of their hatred. Being without a wolf made Alicia more susceptible to their prevailing hostility.
Alicia walked past them indifferently, knowing full well the trigger of the species war 30 years ago, as it was a history that belonged to their werewolf pride and was still a required history course in their high school. The werewolves had been the target of a witch and vampire alliance, but in the end they had prevailed, even though they had suffered great losses.
They thought Alicia was different enough to make the werewolves feel that she was probably some other species mutated to remain in the pack. Whichever one she was, she would not be accepted by the werewolves, even if she was now no different from a normal human, no healing powers, no ability to shapeshift.
Humans, although they were an innocent party in that war, were weak enough for the stronger werewolves to feel that they would only drag the pack down, which is why Alicia is hated by the pack, but humans are not their ultimate enemy. This is the reason why the wolves treat Alicia like garbage but don't kill her.
Whatever.
It all became white noise as Alicia quickened her pace to get away from the cafeteria. Their words did sting, but she refused to show them how much they affected her. It wasn’t as though what they said wasn’t true.
But the fact is, what they say is true. Alicia didn’t have a wolf, making her entirely useless in a pack of werewolves; she wasn’t the prettiest, and she was indeed poor. Not a beggar, but poor. Unlike Darci, her clothes were not designer. They were barely even the latest trends among her peers. Alicia wore what she could afford, and the last time she spent on her clothes was two years ago. She might look awfully dressed in frayed clothing, but she was prideful in the fact that everything she wore, everything she owned, was from her own hard work, working multiple part-time jobs and not taking a penny from her parents.
Entering the school toilets, Alicia checked the empty stalls before cleaning herself up and pulled out her spare shirt from her bag. After years of being picked on, Alicia anticipated many situations and almost always carried a spare shirt, underwear, or anything they might try to use to humiliate the wolfless girl any more than she already was. Once changed into a new shirt, Alicia looked at the disgrace staring back at her in the mirror. She was almost identical to Darci, except for the colour of her hair and eyes.
Where Darci had dark brown hair and light blue eyes, Alicia’s hair was blonde, almost pale white to silver in some lights, and her eyes were soft blue-green, primarily green. They were sisters, their faces mirror images, yet Alicia was unfairly mistreated. Even before her 18th birthday, the special day when everything was meant to change, and she would finally get her wolf, Alicia was treated like an outcast. She wasn’t Darci; she didn’t look like her parents. Some even speculated she was adopted, but the birth certificate stated otherwise.
Still, Alicia’s parents treated her worse than a stranger living in their house. All of her complaints being treated unfairly, all the arguments lessened over time until eventually she gave up, realising her situation was never going to change. Her parents, those people weren’t going to change their behaviour towards her. So all she needed to do was work hard enough to save money and get out of this hellish home!
To make that dream a reality, Alicia requested additional hours from the restaurant owner to ensure she had sufficient savings. She was the first to accept any spare hours going.Yet, today, she promised her boyfriend, Tom, who happened to be the alpha's son and the alpha King's grandson, to attend his hockey game. Due to her part-time job, Alicia and Tom hadn't been able to spend much time together, but when she arrived at school today, Tom emphasized the significance of the game and expressed how important it was for him that Alicia be there.
Whilst thinking about Tom, any pain that had been dwelling inside of her chest, stopped. Amidst the challenges she had encountered, Tom was the only symbol of good fortune, and despite his position, he still treated her like a treasure. Despite how everybody treated her, including his siblings, he treated her like a princess.
She couldn’t miss this hockey game. It was important to Tom so it was important to her. However, as Alicia stared at her perfectly dressed self in the mirror, her phone began to ring and a sense of dread overcame her glancing at the name of the person calling her.
“Ali…” The sniffling voice of her colleague, Holly, greeted her. Her voice and nose sounded thick with an awful cold. “Could you cover my shift, please?”Alicia rushed off to cover Holly’s shift, needing the money as an extra bonus, forgetting until she was two hours into waitressing the promise she made to watch her boyfriend’s hockey game. She texted Tom quickly before her boss scolded her for looking at her phone; her intention was to make it up to him after the shift ended. Now, after hours of waitressing, Alicia showered and changed before turning up to the ice rink at school, biting on the inside of her cheek as the crowds started to disperse and the cars were already lining up, honking in traffic to leave.Pushing through the crowds, Alicia made it outside the men’s locker rooms and kept looking at her phone. Tom left her on ‘read’ after her last texts about meeting up after the game. She acknowledged this had happened more than once, though she’d always shown up for his games
Rechecking her phone, Alicia frowned at the screen. Since their argument, Tom hadn’t contacted her, even after she’d sent her usual good morning texts. They were only in a few classes together, but it was the end of the week when their lessons weren’t scheduled. It looked like he was avoiding her, but it was hard to say when she hadn’t even seen him.Still, Alicia refused to give in to his wishes. It appears they are at a breaking point. Tom was such a nice break from her harsh reality; he’d always been there to help her through the tough times with her family and the bullying of the pack, which had worsened since her 18th birthday. Tom was a huge part of her life, but she stood by not giving in to him.It was hard to believe that Tom wanted anything more than sex from her. All guys at this age, no matter what species, were raging with hormones and wanted to lose their virginity or sleep around. Why would Tom, the next Alpha, like the outcast of Blue Crescent? She knew it could be eas
Since losing her virginity to Tom, his behaviour changed. He'd grown distant from Alicia, mostly absent-minded and distracted by the little time they spent with each other. Alicia also noticed their encounters were always in private, away from prying eyes, somewhere they wouldn't be easily discovered. At first, Alicia thought she was being paranoid because she’d given Tom her virginity, and his behaviour suddenly changed after he got what he wanted.Alicia hoped this wasn’t the case and she hadn’t just allowed her first time to be with someone she wouldn’t spend the rest of her life with. In the werewolf community, they had mates- soulmates- they would never separate from. At first, this kept Alicia from sleeping with Tom, but his 20th birthday was six months ago, the special birthday when werewolves discovered their mates. That eased some of Alicia’s anxiety, and she accepted Tom’s persuasive words that he would choose her as his future Luna.Even if, at times, she doubted herself. W
“We’re here,” the driver announced as he peered into the rear view mirror reflecting back the dark and brooding Alpha Rowan. The alpha had been staring out of the black tinted window, deep in thought, for once not paying attention to his surroundings. He didn’t want to be here. The very idea of meeting his brother put his wolf’s hackles up and bloodlust like no other. It was the same with everyone in his bloodline.Rowan was the Alpha King’s illegitimate son, the unwanted one, the one his siblings and others had treated like dirt until he became infamously known as a vicious alpha of the Bloody Claw pack. No matter; he had a job to do. “Give me the report again,” he ordered, accepting the report from his beta, Voss.“I can already smell a strange scent,” Voss added absentmindedly, inhaling deeply beside the slightly lowered car window.Rowan hummed in response as he reread the details and nodded. “Alright. Let’s get this over with.” Dropping the papers on the car seat between them, he
Rowan yanked the back door open, the force so powerful it came off the hinges and flung aside. The man inside was too startled and didn't react quickly enough before he was next tossed to the side like he weighed nothing. Voss skidded to a stop, dressed in nothing but tracksuit bottoms, bag slung over his back. The man on the ground glared at Rowan’s back and retrieved a gun from his back pocket. Voss swiftly intervened and kicked the gun out of his hand, causing it to slide across the concrete as he decked him in the face repeatedly. While he fought the man on the ground, Rowan faced a different situation.“Leave or I’ll cut her open,” the man snapped, digging a blade just below the woman’s breasts, pricking the material until her shirt grew damp with a bit of blood.Rowan saw red at that. “I don’t take orders from scum,” he growled. “Or anyone for that matter…” In a single second, Rowan crushed the man’s hand, gripped the dagger, ignoring the silver burning his skin and stabbed the
It’s hot. Too hot.Alicia felt slightly smothered from the overbearing heat. She reached out to remove the blanket, frowning slightly at how different it felt. Unlike the thin, worn blanket she was used to, the material was soft and thick, like a duvet. Still groggy, Alicia tossed it back, feeling a little relieved, exposing her back. Yet she was still overly hot.Blinking through her sleepiness, Alicia halted her stretch, and her heart burst in her chest at the naked stranger she was clinging to! With her leg wrapped around his, half her body folded onto his solid eight-pack, hand resting on his chest.Who was he? Where was she?!The smoking-hot stranger with a killer body and looks pulled her closer to him. Wait, his arm was wrapped around her waist. And now her head was resting on his chest again. The steady beat of his heart was comforting, and boy, he was nice to look at both his strong jawline, black tousled locks that brushed against the top of his head, and not to mention his
Rowan listened to Alicia’s explanation of the events that happened the previous day, the more she spoke the fiercer his expression grew. Alicia was almost compelled to stop but anytime she hesitated, Rowan waved her on to continue. The more she spoke, the colder she felt, realising just how little everyone thought of her. She’d always been able to brush it off, persevere because there was always an end goal, always a light at the end of the tunnel. Now she wasn’t so sure. They’d literally kidnapped her and was going to send her off to some other Alpha to breed pups from.By the time Alicia finished, she was determined to face this head-on. “Anyway…” She trailed off, trying to brush off everything that happened to her, looking away from Rowan, who could see straight through her façade. “I need to return to my pack, and… and I need to speak to the Alpha King. Yes, maybe he can help with how I’ve been mistreated in the pack.” Her anger grew again as she glared at the bed sheets.Rowan la
Straightening her shoulders, Alicia strolled towards the steps, stopping when she felt everybody staring at her. Well, she did look like a mess. But it felt different this time.“Back already?” A woman she recognised but didn’t know folded her arms, leaning against one of the pillars of the mansion, looking Alicia up and down with disdain as she blew out a puff of smoke from her cigarette. “Being a breeder wasn’t what you expected?”How did this woman know she was meant to be someone’s breeder? Didn’t Alpha and Luna want to keep what happened quiet? If gossip spreads about how they forcibly took the beta's daughter, no matter how unwanted she was, to another alpha and became his breeder, it could tarnish Alpha Valko and Luna Fiona's reputation and that of the Blue Crescent pack.“Hey, I’m sure I can keep up with your slutty ways,” a man snickered behind her. She spun around, wide-eyed, shocked at his disgusting gesture, hand grabbing his groin over his jeans.“Excuse me?!” Her hands c
