As he lay in his bed waiting for the clock to strike ten, Matthew finally got to understand the full extent of suffering experienced by a man sitting in the dock awaiting a sentence. The past several hours had been a torment and he didn't think he could endure it for another hour.

He could only pray that he'd be given a second chance. He'd made a fatal mistake, and whatever the lady had in store for him, he had no choice but to accept it. Though he couldn't begin to imagine how he would live the rest of his days without Arabella. He had no idea how he would manage to go on with his life if he never got to see her again.

The distant clock struck ten somewhere in the house, indicating the end of the wait. As he jumped to his feet and sneaked out of the room, he resolved that even if the worst happened and he got banished, he would find a way to see Arabella, as long as she wanted him around.
