Ah, she's always hated that devil.
The way he smiled at her with his arm stretched out made her sick to her stomach, but as much as she craves to spit on his face, she was forced to put up with him and smile.
With an umbrella, he leads her away from the rain and towards his black car, parked at the entrance of Rachel's house, while Rachel just watches from the window as her friend leaves.
"What are you doing here?" He asks as soon as he gets in.
Leia scoffs at his question as the answer is quite obvious.
"I live here, and I plan to do so until my husband returns," she breaks the news to him.
For a brief moment, there's a short silence as he drives with his eyes forward, giving the road his attention.
Throughout their drive, he doesn't ask any other questions which seems to please her, because the thought of a prolonged conversation with her enemy has her fuming with rage.
It isn't until a few minutes on the road that Leia realizes she has no idea where we're going.
"What about your in-laws?" He suddenly asks, making Leia eat her words as her peaceful drive comes to an end.
"And how about you? Why aren't you living with them?" She asks.
He glances at her, but only for a spilt second as he redirects his gaze back to the road.
Well, that ought to shut him up.
Besides, it was a good thing he was focused because Leia didn't plan to die anytime soon and certainly not in the same vehicle with him.
"Then I guess it's decided then," he says, changing the topic as if it were natural.
Upon realizing how quickly he changed the topic, her neck turns towards him as if it would snap at any second, but as much as she wanted to pester him on that, there was another unsettling thing.
Decided?
"What does he mean by 'decided'?" She wonders with a frown.
She certainly didn't recall deciding anything with him.
Leia is paralysed as she wonders what sort of crazy ideas Mark was having in his head, but whatever it was, it sure terrifies her to think of it.
"I don't remember coming to any conclusions with you," she tells him with a stiff expression.
Once again the car goes silent.
All she hears are the sound of the raindrops beating the car and the wipers moving side to side.
It's quiet… too quiet.
Mark suddenly stretches his hand forward. The next thing she knows, he's turning on the radio and switching channels while looking back and forth on the road.
When he finally stops at a station, the sweet tunes of Walt's echo around.
She suddenly feels light almost as if the weight on her shoulders is being lifted.
This song, she knew it too well.
Just as she starts to get ahead of herself and calm down, the memories associated with this song begin to creep in.
She holds on tightly to her seatbelt as she tries to block off those unpleasant memories.
However, her breathing starts to get ahead of her and she starts sweating despite the cold weather.
"Well that's all for our Beethoven symphony special, I hope you enjoyed tonight's special request," she hears the broadcaster say.
"Special request?" She repeats, staring at the person who could only be the culprit.
"It's nice to see you looking at me," he says with a smile.
His fingers drum on the steering wheel as he steals a couple of glances at her.
"I hate that song," she declares with her teeth jammed.
Mark chuckles loudly, "Well Mrs Sky if I remember correctly you used to love this song a lot, especially when you were tense.
I remember you telling me, it helps you relax."
It wasn't a surprise he knew her preference, he had known her long enough to do so, but she hated it.
After a short side glance at her, Mark hums a song to himself as he steers the wheel filled with jolly.
His happy moment however is crushed when a bright light from out of nowhere flashes before their eyes, causing Mark to hit the brake and his car to come to a halt with a screech.
Not ready for that, Leia finds her head going back and forth violently, and just as she's about to hit her head, she feels something shield her, although hard, it was certainly better than what she was about to clash with.
She looks up, trying to trace the source of that lifesaver when she finds Mark staring at her, his eyebrows gesturing to her to take a better look at what saved her. It was his hand.
"Did I almost die back there?" She questions with her heart running a mile.
Her eyes widen as she stares blankly at the car ahead of me, completely petrified and speechless.
Tak!
Mark opens his door and throws one leg out.
"I'll be back in a moment princess," he whispers to her as he helps himself out.
She watched him approach the car ahead of us and knock at the window of the driver.
A tall man comes out, he's looking dangerous from what she can see.
There's a bottle in his hand, and Leia gets pissed off by the obvious, seeing that he's been drinking and driving.
Thanks to the rain, she's unable to properly watch what's going on but the situation doesn't seem to be going smoothly as the man starts walking forward and Mark backwards.
"He's gonna die at this rate," she whispers to herself.
Tempted to come out, Leia reaches out to the handle when she sees Mark suddenly take out his phone.
"He's not making a call so I wonder what he's doing?"
Mark shows the man something and then reaches out to the dangerous-looking man, taps his shoulder and then walks back.
Carefully watching, she tries to read their lips, but the rain gets in the way, and the next thing she knows, the thug is in panic as he stands still by his car, unable to move until Mark arrives.
"Did I keep you waiting long princess?" He questions as soon as he enters.
Leia remains silent even after hearing his question, with her eyes fixed on the man who's still standing under the rain.
Curiosity gets the best of her and she opens my mouth, "What did you say to him?" She asks him.
He reaches out to her and strokes her hair, "you should know better, how angry I can get, and what I can do when I get angry," he says with an angelic smile.
"You're terrible," she responds, smacking his hand.
Never in her life would she have guessed that someone with good looks like him could be this terrible.
Mark gets the engine started once again and the two set off for their unknown destination, to Leia at least, and after a few more minutes on the road, she starts to get goosebumps.
The car starts to slow down, and yet, all she sees is a street, an empty street with street lights and no single car around, there are no houses around as well, but they continue to drive, although slowly.
She suddenly thinks to herself, "I should leave my location on, just in case".
"Bring the dress over here.""Where's her shoe!"The morning begins with everyone running as if the earth is coming to an end.Leia's room is crowded with people ready to assist her in her journey of getting ready for the grand event, as the day finally arrives. To Leia's surprise last night, the place Mark was taking her to turn out to be his house and she wasn't in the best state to argue with him. Sitting before the mirror, she feels her forehead, for a brief moment. Her fever hasn't gone down, but she continues to wave it off whenever she's been asked about her unusual temperature. "I'm fine," she tells them with a smile, and since employees aren't expected to meddle, they can only agree with her claims. "Would you prefer these?" One of the workers asks, presenting her with the boxes of jewellery. To Leia, It's disturbing to know that Mark remembers every detail about her, as everything before her was what she used to like before she changed her taste to become a new person.
Everything looked perfect. The lights, the music, the delicious aroma that followed the butler around. Leia and Mark arrive at the hotel where the celebration is being held, and she marvels at the prestigious face she saw around her. Everything there was good. "You never thought you'd be in their midst one day, did you?" Mark whispers closely, tickling her ear with his breath. Leia flinches from surprise as she jumps back. Her brows curve in anger. He was right though, during her journey as a journalist, she always had to wait until she was called upon to attend such gatherings. When Leia did attend, she had to wait until she got the opportunity to be called upon to interview them. For a journalist, this was paradise. "If you had just stayed by my side a little longer, maybe you wouldn't need to wait for such occasions to speak with them," he said. The both of them stare at each other for a brief moment. Something was telling her to be on guard so she could never be comfortab
"We'll take the main entrance," he tells her after trying numerous calls, which unfortunately doesn't go through as everyone is having the time of their life. "So long as I'm far from you, that works just fine."Leia surveys the large entrance of the Hotel which was teeming with noisy socialites. "Let's go this way," he tells her. They help themselves over the tiring walk around the building till they reach the front. Leia couldn't help but feel her eyes water from all the glaring flashes as she experiences life on the red carpet for a second time in one day.Her annoyance levels suddenly skyrockets when she hears the cloying voice of another devil. "Oh, Leia! It's such a surprise to see you here!" Leia could tell that voice even if it were faint. Her eyebrow twitches in irritation and she places on a fake smile for the sake of the camera."Janette darling! It's great to see you". The feeling is neutral for Janette, who fakes her smile at her discomfort, baring her white te
"Thank you," Leia says as she accepts the award from Mrs Fabien. The woman smiles at her gently, but then the smile quickly changes as she raises an eyebrow. "Are you okay dear?" Mrs Fabien asks. At this moment, Leia feels sweat roll down her face in a lazy line. Her body feels almost as if it were on fire. She shakes her head and waves off Mrs Fabien's worry, meanwhile clenching the award in her sweaty grip. She automatically swallows the bile rising in her throat before facing the podium with the object in her hand. She knows that it is customary to give a speech during such events. Leia has drafted out a speech, but as soon as she looks at the crowd everything upstairs vanishes without a single trace. She feels her stomach roll in anxiety as she looks at the expectant faces of the guests. If she remained quiet for long, she would draw attention to herself and disappoint the family, and of course, she didn't want to disappoint anyone. She didn't want to fail. But Leia was neve
Leia storms out of the building with a flurry of hurried steps, almost running as she ignores Rachel's shouts behind her. The words from the tv were still ringing in her ears.'I didn't want to hide him but it seemed like the ….. only choice'.She felt sick. Absent-mindedly Leia notes that her fever was most likely back but she didn't care as she rushed to the parking lot.Upon arriving she meets with the driver who's just about to leave, and stops him. He opened his mouth, most likely to greet Leia, but she cut in before he could speak."Keys," she demands, her hand outstretched in front of his stunned face.He gaped for a moment before composing himself."I'm sorry ma'am but I can't do that. It would be better if I drove." He says quickly, trying to avoid her eyes. Saying those words didn't make Leia change her mind as she glared at him before simply snatching the keys from his vest pocket."Ma'am!." He yelps in a squeaky voice.Unbothered by his yelling, she shoves him away from
Mark walks into the police station right after Leia has left when Kasen is brought into the waiting room for the second time in a day. His cousin, Kasen, looks up at him and asks him to leave."Well if it isn't my one and only cousin Mark," Kasen says.Mark didn't budge, his eyes rolled in irritation."I'm here to discuss a few things with you, and I'm afraid I'm not leaving until I find those documents," he says firmly. "I'll burn this place to the ground if I have to."Kasen shakes his head. "You're not thinking straight. Just go home and cool off, or you can join me here if you want to, for the second time in your life I mean."Mark stands up and towers over Kasen, sternly looking at him."I'll go home… when I have those documents in my hand. And you better take care of yourself, Kasen, I wouldn't want anything to happen to you." Knowing fully well that Leia has hidden the document, he couldn't help but frown at how good Leia is at playing hide and seek, but what excites him, was
Leia has never felt so angry and betrayed. Annoyed, she storms off her meeting with her mother-in-law, feeling humiliated and disrespected. She knows that she deserves more, and yet, they have ignored her and dismissed her concerns. She couldn't take it anymore. Her best isn't best enough to these people and she's beginning to wonder if they're qualified enough to be called her in-laws."Everyone keeps driving me to a wall," she mutters to herself feeling angered and sad as well. Getting inside the car, an angered Leia revs up the engine, ready to leave, but just outside the gate she finds someone unexpected standing at the gate.Slam!Leia's door closes as Rachel gets inside. "What took you so long?" Rachel asks, putting her seatbelts on. "I'm tired," Leia murmurs, slamming her head on to the steering wheel, causing the car to honk. "Let's go to my place, this family is nothing but chaos to you," she tells Leia. Throughout the drive to Rachel's place Leia is unsure of who to g
Both women stare at the TV in utter shock. Their jaw drops as She reads the headlines over and over, still trying to process what she's seeing. Why? Why was this happening to her? "This cannot be happening." She didn't even notice the angry tears rolling down her cheeks as she stood up. "Why are they so keen on ruining my reputation? Why are they so keen on ruining my life?!" She shouts in frustration.Rachel who heard her turned from the kitchen counter, the concern on her face turning into shock as soon as she saw the TV. The news shook her to her Bones."What the hell is this?" Rachel asks in a strained whisper as she steps out of the kitchen to get a better view of the TV. "Well-known daughter-in-law of the Sky family, Leia Sky's dirty secret is finally revealed as a local source captured a picture of her making out with her brother-in-law, Mark Sky who seems to be her lover since back in her college days. Sources say that the history of the relationship between the two…" The
