Rayvin needed to take Luna Bella’s advice and call the boutique she had given Rayvin the number to. According to Bella, it was a lifesaver when it came to everything style related. But Rayvin had been putting it off, prioritising other things. That is why she now faced her wardrobe and realised she only had the dress she wore to the funeral and two tank tops that were white. Being a wolf, you avoided white as it was so strongly associated with being a Luna. Mikael walked into the closet while trying to get his cufflinks on.

“Ray, can you help me?” he asked without looking up.

“Sure,” she told him and took over the task. She didn’t need to see his face to know he was now looking at her. She could feel his eyes moving over her body, which was only dressed in undergarments.

“You know I love this look on you, sweetie. But I don’t think I can let you wear it to the trial,” he told her as he placed the hand she wasn’t working on, on her hip.

“I know, I just realised how unprepared I am as

Rayvin was sitting in her office in the house. She loved it and had taken inspiration from it when designing her office in the pack house. It was both sweet and a little disconcerting how well Mikael had guessed her taste when building the house, even after being separated for years. She didn’t know if it was due to him knowing her so well, or if she just had simple tastes that hadn’t changed since she was a teenager. Mikael was having a meeting with the managers of the gyms to decide who should take over the gym that Thomas had managed. Rayvin was looking through her files on Frank, again. They had a good lead in the anise case, but she had no idea how Frank was connected to it all, or where he was. After figuring out the code, Rayvin had asked her friend that had gone through his computer to do it again, to see if there were any signs of the code or something about anise. ‘Luna, there is a moving van at the gate. The driver has identified himself as Remus Shadowpaw and his passenge

As Diana and Rayvin handed out the coffee, Susan looked at Diana. “I don’t get how you can run a pack without a full top tier,” Susan said. Five wolves stopped and looked at her. “Susan,” Remus sighed. “We have a full top tier,” Rayvin said. “Not really. Your Gamma is mated to your Beta, you are missing two members,” Susan insisted.“Susan!” Remus voice was sharp and no one could miss the underlying command for her to stay quiet.“I don’t know how other packs do it, but our top members are strong and good at what they do. We are more than capable of handling our pack business,” Mikael told her. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to offend anyone,” Susan said. Rayvin frowned and tried to figure out what was going on. ‘I need to talk to Remus on my own, can you distract Susan?’ she mind linked Mikael, Diana and Ben. ‘Why?’ Mikael asked.‘Something’s up with Susan and since I can’t mind link Remus to ask what it is, I need some privacy,’ Rayvin explained. They all agreed to help her. “Remus, M

Mikael had called an emergency meeting of the Alpha Council. Rayvin was sitting next to him in his office, waiting for the meeting to start. “I thought the time for emergency meetings was over,” Mikael sighed. “I’m sorry this all landed in you lap,” Rayvin said, taking his hand. He smiled at her and placed a kiss on the back of her hand as he intertwined their fingers.“It’s not all bad. I got you back, so I won’t complain too much. But I wished it had been during calmer times. I feel like we don’t get enough time together.”“That’s sweet. But I think we will be okay. Gray and Bee met during similar times. They seem to be doing just fine. And they didn’t even know each other. We will have times of peace and quiet as well. You might even think back and wish for a not so quiet life,” she told him.“I have a feeling as long as I have you in my life, I will never be bored,” he said. “I will do my best to live up to your expectations,” she promised and turned towards the screen as she h

“Really? A human mate?” Mikael asked for the third time. He saw Rayvin laugh and nod. “Yes, a human mate, a sheriff,” she told him again.“The moon goddess must have gone temporarily insane,” he muttered. “And why are we keeping this a secret?” “Because she wants to tell her family, but she is feeling a little insecure. We are giving her time to feel secure in the mating, to let her see that her human will be just as interested in her as she is in him,” Rayvin patiently explained. They were in Mikael’s office in the house and Rayvin had just told him about her conversation with Milly. Mikael still had a hard time believing it. “So how did it go with Remus?” she asked as she was leaning against his desk while he was sitting in his chair. “Good. He has the potential to become a great Alpha,” Graham said. He had to reluctantly admit that he liked the man. Remus was nothing like his father, but that wasn’t necessarily bad, just different. “I know. I just wish both he and his father co

Rayvin was putting on the black cargo pants and the black long-sleeved t-shirt she always used on her missions. Her ability to turn invisible meant she could have worked in bright red colours if she wanted. But it put her in the right frame of mind and sometimes it was good not to rely on your powers. She was lacing up her boots as Mikael walked into the closet. He was already dressed in similar clothes and walked up to her and placed a hand on her back. Rayvin could feel his worry and knew it was because he didn’t want her to come on the mission. He hadn’t said anything because he knew she needed to be there. But his Alpha instinct was always to protect his Luna, even if it didn’t make logical sense. “Do you want to say it at least once?” she asked as she stood up and faced him. He gave her a weak smile.“I really wish you would stay home,” he said.“I know, but I won’t,” she replied.“I know,” he told her and gave her a light kiss.“Is it okay?” she asked.“It is, I know you can do

“Do you think I should have gone with Remus in the third car?” Diana asked, as they were on their way home. “No,” Rayvin said. “Okay, something is up with you. Both of you. You have been strangely insistent that I don’t get involved in this operation. What’s up?” Diana asked Rayvin and Mikael. “Don’t know what you’re talking about,” Mikael said.“You’re sounding a bit paranoid, Diana,” Rayvin told her. “Right,” Diana said, eyeing Mikael and Rayvin. ‘How long do we have to pretend we don’t know?” Mikael mind linked Rayvin.‘Until she tells us,’ Rayvin insisted. Diana kept giving them irritated looks throughout the drive home. They got regular updates over phone. The third car had successfully handed over to Laika and was hanging back. They were heading away from the city. Ben waited for them outside the pack house and drew Diana in for a kiss as she stepped out of the car. Rayvin smiled at them. Mikael was talking to Ben about how it had gone as they all walked up to Mikael’s offi

The news regarding the Beta pup spread like a wildfire in the pack. Diana and Ben had gone over to his parents to tell them in person and they called her parents and Milly. Diana was radiating and Ben seemed to keep physical contact with her at all times and glared when people came too close. Rayvin found the whole thing very sweet. The teams watching the cabin reported the humans were still holding up in there. They hadn’t left it during the day they had been there. Rayvin had talked to Remus about how to get at least one of their warriors close enough to the cabin to let them hear what was happening. They decided that if the human stayed another night, Laika would try to sneak closer. There was a part of the cabin where there weren’t any windows. If Laika could get close enough to the cabin without being detected, she could take up posts along that part. Rayvin and Mikael were having dinner with the pack as they were waiting to hear back from the teams in the field. Nikolaus came

Late in the evening, they finally got the information they had been waiting for. The humans had ended several hours of driving around in circles by entering a warehouse in an industrial part of the city. After some careful recon, the teams could report it seemed like there were numerous humans in the warehouse. Rayvin called Alpha Brutus to let him know they most likely had found the headquarters. He told her he was sending five agents to them. They would arrive the next afternoon. Diana arranged for the warriors that had been watching the humans to be relieved as they had been in the field for days. The following day, Remus joined Rayvin and Diana to welcome the agents from Mistvalley. He then headed to the airport to go and interrogate the Alpha of the rogues. The agents from Mistvalley were used to taking orders from Rayvin, and it helped that she knew how they worked. The agents were free to move as they wished in the area. They would avoid contact with the pack as much as possib

Mikael looked at his mate and he knew she would dig her heals in on this. She had the adorable wrinkle between her eyebrows. He would have enjoyed a small scuffle with her any other day. But not today, not with these stakes. “Ray,” he said in a warning voice. “Max.” She had mirrored his voice and stood looking at him. “You are not thinking about going in to that place,” he said.“I am.”“Forget about it. I will lock you in one of the cells before I let you do something like that,” he told her. She scoffed and walked up to him. She stood so close to him she had to tilt her head slightly to look him in the eyes. He could see every golden thread in her eyes. “Listen to me, Max. I love you, I respect you, but that does not mean you get to control me. I have told you from the start, I’m not a meek and obedient Luna. You told me that was okay, that I could be who I wanted. Well, this is who I am. I am the kind of Luna that won’t stand by when I know I can help. If it turns out the agent

“I knew she never really cared for me,” Mikael confirmed, and it tore at Rayvin’s heart. “But I never blamed her for it. You saw me as your successor, as a carbon copy of you. She saw me as a duty, a box to check as Luna. I understood this early on. It didn’t mean it was easy to live with. Do you remember the summer Grey, his sister and mother spent here? I dreamed about Lilly asking me if I wanted to go back with them when they left. I had never seen another Luna with her children. I thought our family was how all Alpha families were. But seeing her, how she treated her children and how often Alpha George called to check on his family and how much attention both Grey and Lotte got. It was eye opening and gut wrenching all at the same time,” Mikael explained. Rayvin could feel the old pain he carried through their mate bond. “I gave you everything. I made sure you grew up strong, not spoiled,” his father objected.“You gave me nothing. I had to earn everything, even your attention. T

After the call ended, Mikael got up with a grim look on his face. “I’ll make sure the preparations to move him are started,” he told Rayvin. Rayvin got up and took his hand. “Stop. Just pause for a second,” she said. He had blocked their mate bond again, but Rayvin didn’t need it to know he was hurting. “You and me are going for a run,” she added.“Ray, we can go after I get things started,” he objected, and she hated how tired he sounded. “No, I’m going to insist that we go right now. Don’t make me use the mate card, Max.” He looked at her for a moment and then nodded. “Thank you, love,” she said, giving him a soft kiss and leading him out into the forest. They stripped down and shifted. ‘Catch me if you can, I won’t even use my abilities,’ Rayvin mind linked Mikel before taking off. For an hour, he chased her all over the pack land. Finally, Rayvin let him catch her by the waterfall and they both lied down in the snow and watched the dancing water. ‘Feeling better?’ she asked. ‘

Rayvin was discussing the training of the warriors with Diana. They had brainstormed and had the idea of building an obstacle course in the woods. It would make it easy to train warriors in different conditions and if it was done correctly, it would be able to adapt to the level of the trainee. Rayvin’s phone rang. She looked at it and saw an unknown number. There wasn’t anything strange about it. She hadn’t added all members of the pack’s numbers to her phone. “Rayvin,” she answered, not knowing if it was someone from the pack or a human. “Explain yourself, Rayvin,” someone shouted. Diana could hear it on the other side of the table and raised an eyebrow. “Hello, uncle. Yes, I have had a good day. How about you?” Rayvin said in a calm voice. She had never heard her uncle this upset before. It had to mean the actions the packs had taken were having an effect. “Stop playing games. What the fuck have you done? Why are our investments dropping like stones in the ocean?” he asked in a

Mikael looked at the report on his computer screen and frowned. He made sure to check his protective barrier toward Rayvin was in place. He didn’t want her to worry or blame herself. Mikael had sent Ben away to go to the pack doctor with Diana. It was time for the first official checkup. He heard to door open, and he didn’t need to lock up, he didn’t even need to rely on the exotic smell that grew stronger as his mate made her way to him. Rayvin was the only one who would enter his office without asking for permission. Not even Ben or Diana did it. But there was no ceremony between Mikael and Rayvin. She walked up to him and sat at his desk. He looked up at her and smiled as he placed his hand on her knee. As always, his hands always sought out contact with her. “Hi,” she said. “Hi.” She looked at him as if she was waiting for something. When nothing happened, she shook her head.“Are you ready to talk about it or do you need to brood some more?” she asked.“What are you talking abo

The party was in full swing, and Rayvin was having fun. For one night, it was good for the pack to let go of everything that was going on and just enjoy themselves. She and Mikael were making the rounds around the room, talking to people and making sure everyone was having a good time. “Vinny, it’s time for us to leave,” Luna Bella said and gave Rayvin a hug.“Thanks for coming, Bee. And thank you for lending me your stylist,” Rayvin said, giving Mickey a hug as well. “It was fun, it brought back a lot of memories,” Luna Bella told her. Mikael and Rayvin followed the party from the Blackmoon pack to their car and waved them off. “We have been at the party for almost three hours,” Mikael informed Rayvin as he closed his arms around her. “I didn’t know you were keeping track,” she said with a smile.“Three hours must be enough, don’t you think? No one would miss us if we didn’t go back,” he continued. “Tired already? I knew you were a little older than me, but you are losing your s

“Are you nervous?” Luna Bella asked as Mickey did Rayvin’s makeup. “Definitely,” Rayvin confessed and squirmed a little in her seat. “Don’t be, it will go perfectly,” Diana reassured her, and took another sip of the sparkling cider. Rayvin had decided they all were drinking cider instead of champagne. “You look amazing, if I may say so myself. It’s easy when working with people like you and Bee,” Mickey said. Rayvin was thrilled that he, Logan, Luna Bella and Alpha Graham had made the trip to Whiteriver to attend her Luna ceremony. She was even more grateful that Mickey had volunteered to help her get ready. He was an amazing stylist. Mickey had made Rayvin’s blond hair form into loose waves that cascaded down her shoulders and back. He had put soft makeup on her face, but as a contrast put gold eyeliner in an extended cat eye. It made her amber eyes stand out and gave her a warrior look. “Time for the dress,” Diana said, excitedly. Rayvin had listened to everyone and ordered her

It was Wednesday afternoon, Rayvin and Diana walked up to a tidy-looking town house in the human town. Diana was carrying a gigantic apple pie. Rayvin had asked the kitchen to make it for the bookclub she and Diana had been invited to. She had, unfortunately, forgotten to tell them it was meant for humans. They had made it with werewolf appetite in mind. ‘Ready?’ Rayvin mind linked Diana.‘No, are you sure I need to be here?’ Diana asked. ‘If I have to be here, you have to,’ Rayvin insisted and rang the doorbell. “What do you think?” Rayvin asked Mikael when they were alone again. “I like him. I have a feeling Gray will get two new pack members soon,” he said. “You think Milly will make a permanent move?” she asked and leaned against him. He pulled her closer and kissed her neck.“I think so. She seems to be happy there, and he has a good job in the area. I can’t say I’m sorry to see her go. But I am happy that she has found her place in life.
