The sacrifice of the spade hood worried Warren. The red-eyed horror became a tree to help power the Witch stone. It spoke to the imprisoned witch's power and raised the importance of finding the remaining five chosen.

"Vandal, are you there?" Grace's voice came over the radio with urgency.

"Go for Vandal," Warren retorted.

"We have an emergency call from Elphame. Put the witch mission on the back burner. We will be going to Vancouver. I can't tell you why. Elphame insisted we all be here for the briefing."

"Roger that, we are coming back to base," He whistled, "Okay guys, we are heading back to the Scald Crow. Grace has a priority one call from Elphame."

Hopes spectral eyes twinkled, "Excellent, you can continue your search for the remaining chosen..." the apparition put her hands on her hips, "Well, you aren't going to find them out in the middle of the woods."

"Forgive us, Elder Hope. We will pass on the importanc

The Scald Crow rumbled through traffic. The armored troop carrier encouraged the smaller vehicles to move with a loud honk. Grace pulled out her ornate pocket watch and swore, "We are already late for the meeting with the police. Why can't magic fix traffic," She growled furiously. "Come on, Grace, the Scald Crow, can easily tear through gridlock. Why aren't we plowing through these toys?" Jack complained he shuffled a weathered deck of cards. Grace tossed the tricorn hat to the side and let her blazing red hair down. She calmly marched up to Jack, smiled, and then slammed his head against the conference table. "There are people in those cars, people who hate the Seelie. We are here to clean up the Bokken Riders mess, not leave one in our wake." Herne, Theria, and Warren all stared at her with shock and awe. As second in command, He took it upon himself to speak to her as privately as possible. Theria gave him a sweet peck on the lips before he

Grace led the way through the door to the bullpen. She lowered her cutlass and flintlock at the emptiness and silence of what should have been a busy area. "I heard human police stations were busy," Grace flipped through a few files and threw them back on the desk. "Do you think they're testing us?" Warren opened the door to the interrogation room, nothing. The air smelled of stale coffee and hand sanitizer, "Let's check the holding cells." "Hey Grace," Therias voice pierced the air and caused Warren and Grace to wince. "Please keep your voice down, Ms. Theria. We don't know who is listening or who is in the building," Grace opened a closet door, Warren stood behind her, ready to fire, "Any word from the second floor?" "Negative, the microphone keeps picking up an odd thumping noise. It's coming from the second floor, " Theria paused, "I'll record the noise and see if I can find any voices or clues as

Gastown is one of the oldest parts of Vancouver. Back in the old days, Gassy Deighton, A steamer captain, opened the first saloon. The area became known for rowdy off-work loggers and sailors. It became a refuge for those who wanted to cut loose. None of that mattered in the here and now. The Scald Crow rolled through the streets without opposition. If anything, people fought to get out of the troop carrier's way. Theria skillfully kept people from harm. Inside, the trio of sports cycles gently banged together. Theria skillfully placed enchantments on the cycle using a series of runes. "The bikes should be ready in the next few minutes, Captain." Warren couldn't put away his concern for his anchor. She still refused to leave the Scald Crow and take an active part in missions. He couldn't blame her after being taken by the Spade Hood. He had no idea what the moon child did to her, but it rattled Theria to her very core. "So

The leather jacket hung loosely on Warren's body as the assembled Laughing Skulls surrounded him and raised their beer mugs in his name. Warren didn't smile or cheer. He kept one hand on the Dream catcher, and his eagle eyes searched for the chosen. Zealot tapped him on the shoulder, "Hey man, it's okay to celebrate. You are with your people now and not with the Tinkerbells," Zealot's voice soothed him, and he relaxed. Archon flashed the wand picture across his mind again. Warren nodded his head in agreement. "I have to use the bathroom. We'll talk more when I get back." Zealot gripped his hand, "Don't worry, kid. The future belongs to the humans and not those interdimensional squatters. We will drive them back to where they came from." Irritation gripped Warren's body while he shook hands with the biker. He longed to let the eidolon loose on the unsuspecting racists. He walked toward the bathroom, and the necklace grew warmer. He held the pend

Deep in the dark places where no one cares to look, Warren felt like he belonged with the Laughing skulls. The roar of the engines and the camaraderie poke at his need to be accepted by other humans. He knew better, of course. The Laughing Skulls lived to spread their message of hate, and it made the teen sick to his stomach. Yale town had all the trappings of the modern world, skyscrapers, and Noveau architecture. Art galleries and quaint coffee shops. It was also the home to many warehouses. Warren expected their stop to be at a warehouse. However, the pack of riders slowed their mechanical steeds just outside the Yale Hotel. The black and red brick, with bright neon signs on the outside, seemed larger than life to Warren as he slowed the street bike and parked it on the opposite side of the street. "Warren, it's Theria. do you copy?" Concern owned the disembodied voice of Theria. "I'm here. I can't talk for long. Zealot will be

  • Scald Crow   49 Rooftop Ride

The mixed and matched eyes of the Gigas were devoid of emotion or intelligence. The long hair streaked with lightning bolts of white framed her face and hid the small bolts in her neck. In her hand, a long chain with a spiked ball. The links rattled together and dared warren to make a move. Gunfire echoed through the building. The gigas looked away to find the source of the noise. Warren capitalized on the opening and charged with the eidolon aura at maximum capacity. The mental timer flashed twelve minutes. A door burst open, and a horned man dressed in red tumbled into the hall, "You stupid hunk of flesh, you were supposed to be watching the door, not the bikes..." The glowing eyes focused on Warren as he drove a spectral pistol blade into the gigas and cracked off a shot. The gigas grunted and batted Warren away. Warren's hands reached behind him while he fell. He felt the rough carpet on his hands and pushed upward. He rolled bac

Screams and shouts from the Philanthropists and Socialites echoed through the night sky as the impish Bokken Riders landed on the roof of the Harrison Galleries. Tires screech, rubber burned as the magical bikers crashed the party. "Shit," Warren revved his engine and pushed his bike a little faster, "Please tell me you've called the calvary." Warren groaned. His ride went airborne and crashed into the roof of the Harrison Galleries himself. "Yeah, they are about five minutes out. Sorry kid, it's the best they can do," Graves replied with a hint of worry in his voice. "Keep the light on them. I'm going after Bokken Riders. There are too many innocent people here," He raced through the crowd and felt the warmth of the dream catcher in his pants pocket. "Radio Grace and tell her we have a chosen among the people here." "What does that mean?" Graves asked in a confused tone. "It's for another problem we are dealing with on the

The news crews ate up what happened at the Harrison Galleries. Warren found himself thrust in front of the media frenzy with Vasilia on his arm. None of which sat well with the teen. The female gigas escaped and took to the streets. It bothered Warren, as all unfinished business does. Vasilia loved the cameras and spoke for both of them. Her smile provoked ooh, and ahh's from the journalistic masses, "Look at him, he was born to be a star. I saw that the moment I met him. Not only is he attractive, but beneath his hardened body is a hero's heart." The Flashes from the cameras annoyed Archon to no end, and Warren found it hard to disagree. A horde of microphones almost knocked his teeth out. Warren was no stranger to the media and cleared his throat. "Tonight was possible because the crew of the Scald Crow and the Vancouver police worked together. Without them, victory would've escaped my grasp." The pendant from Hope's necklace warmed his pocket, "Archon, we

By nightfall, the macabre wedding, Vasilia kept kissing Warren and then would make a face, "Why isn't it working?" She growled."What's not working?" Warren demanded. The last few hours had significantly soured his mood. Without Archon, his chances of escaping were slim to none. The idea of marrying Vasilia made his skin crawl.Vasilia giggled to herself and tapped him on the cheek, "Never mind, my love. You'll find out tonight when we become one."What did Warren know about Vasilia? He could work her vanity against her, but how? Warren racked his brain over the problem."Now, we should come with possible names for our hybrid child. Can you Imagine a Seelie child with the power of an eidolon? Her beautiful face smiled at him. "I thought you were joking about the wedding thing," Warren tried to scratch his nose, but his hands were bound, "Archon, let's light it up," He growled. Silence followed, not a single peep from the eidolon. "Archon?"Vasilia slapped him gently, "Archon?" she feigned ignorance. "Oh, you mean the eidolon? He is still there, I promise. However, I can't have the groom trying to escape on our special day."Anger bubbled over and came out in Warrens's tone, "Are you serious? The Scald Crow roared down the highway with as much speed as the engine would allow. Herne and Cyrus had formed a friendship of sorts and conversed in the front.Thankfully Duchess remained asleep for the trip back to the city. Eve curled up next to her and sighed, "Poor child. Her struggle burdens my heart," Her large brown eyes rested on Warren, "You don't like it, do you?"Theria dozed against Warren's shoulder. A look of peace adorned her face. Her brother is the head of a racist biker gang, and she still has kindness for others.""Do you ever wonder how people get chosen?" Eve stroked the long streaked hair. Duchess turned out to be more affectionate than anyone expected. She clung to Warren and refused to let him have a moment alone with Theria. Warren longed to tell her to give him some space, but two things complicated the matter. Duchess was like a three-year-old in an adult's body. She needed lots of love and affection. Second, her soul had been washed clean by the raven woman, and its purity was an asset to their plans."Why did I die?" Duchess stared into Warren's eyes.Theria flew up to her, "Well, I think...""It's not important," Warren told her, "What matters is you are alive," he scowled at Theria. "We have something to discuss, and there isn't time to sugarcoat it."Duchess cocked her head to the side, "Is it bad?""It will be the reason why we brought you back," Warren's stomach developed a giant pit, and nausea followed, "You have the power to help protect the world, but it requires you to make a sacrifice."Duchess stopped and gl

Tsonoqua, commonly known as the basket ogress, cleared off her table and placed the body of Duchess on it. She opened Duchess's eyes and examined the body thoroughly, "I can bring her back, but it will be hard to say how much of her original personality she will retain. Also, there is the possibility something demonic will follow her from the nether world. Are you sure you want to take that kind of risk?"Warren and his companions looked at each other, except for Cyrus. The mercenary held his silence since his rescue at the hands of his nephew. He leaned against the door and waited for the team to finish their business.Eve tugged on his arm, "Come on, I don't want to know how this works. You look like you need someone to talk to,""Sure, why not," Cyrus followed her out.Herne stared at the motionless young woman, "I'd say no, but Duchess was a chosen when she lived. Herne and Theria caught up to Eve and Warren in record time. Eve shouldered the body bag with Duchess's body. "We have to hurry. The basket ogress won't sit on Cyrus forever," Eve warned."Psssh," Theria Scoffed, "Why are we worried about the stupid mercenary?"Warren stared at the girl he loved in stunned silence before the anger beneath the skin bubbled to the surface, "How about he is a person.
