First Attempt:
It's recess time and Ulysses didn't have the plan to go out to the canteen. As usual, he brought his own snacks and eats all by himself inside the classroom.Meanwhile, a commotion starts to ignite as Dylan makes his way back to their classroom."See? Mister president and our prince aren't dating! If they are, they should have gone to the canteen together." Even though Ulysses is a little distant from the entrance, he still can hear the girls outside."Right? Of course, Dylan would not date a guy. And a nerdy someone too. Ulysses will only cause his boredom.""Exactly!""Gosh, this person is too handsome. Too handsome!""Girls, please, let me through." Dylan said with a full smile. The female students surrounded him as usual that made him hard to go in and out of the classroom. He loves the attention he gets for the four years he's studying in Northwestern High School. However, he has an image of a prince to girls, especially to those who are a member in his fans club. And so, he needs to look lowkey."Ulysses!" He calls at the silent one cheerfully. His smile is as bright as ever as if he's not disgusted by what he's doing right now. A bunch of drinks and snacks are held in his arms.Meanwhile, Ulysses barely shows a change of his blank expression. He's just staring at this smiling angel approaching him. Dylan sits on the vacant seat beside Ulysses and dumps the food on his table.Ulysses can't remain silent any further. With his usual blank expression, he speaks to Dylan, "What do you think you're doing?""Buying you snacks." The heartthrob replies like buying a bunch of food for a guy is not a big deal.Ulysses stops eating. He raised his eyebrows and asks, "Because...?""Because I want you to be my boyfriend." He said casually and even winks at him. This made Ulysses' eyebrows twitch. This guy is disgusting. Meanwhile, their classmates and the girls in the front door got silenced. They clearly heard what Dylan said.Everyone arrived at the same conclusion. "He's not dating the Student Council President because he's still trying to win him!"Ulysses handed the food back to Dylan. "Ridiculous. More like you want me to get fat. Try harder next time.""Well... aren't you skinny? You should eat more." Dylan put the food back to Ulysses' table. The SC President fakes a smile, "I can pay my own expenses." Once again, he returned the food to Dylan.Dylan leans closer to the other and whispers, "Will you give me some face? Shut up and just fucking accept these."Ulysses also leans closer, cutting more distance between their faces. He whispers, "Guess what? It's not my problem anymore."Now, it's Dylan's turn to twitch his eyebrow. This Student Council is playing hard to get. Good thing for Dylan, his twin sister, and at the same time their matchmaker, came to his rescue."Hi, Ulysses!" Denise casually greeted. "My brother is concerned about your well-being. Please accept these. I can tell that this action is from the bottom of his heart."Ulysses got stuck staring at this beautiful goddess in front of him. She just keeps on looking better day after day. Even though it's more like "From the bottom of his brain" than "From the bottom of his heart" (because well... didn't he give all of these because he has another motive?), he ended up accepting all the food Dylan bought.Result for the first attempt in winning the SC President: Successful.***Second Attempt:Ulysses is sorting out some important documents in the Student Council Office when his third-year SC secretary, Mico, approaches him at the president's desk."Mr. President, someone is looking for you outside."The president paused and looks at his secretary. His face is plain as usual when he asked, "Who is it?""It's Dylan Cruz." Mico knows the situation about Dylan and their student council president very well so he's somehow hesitant to ask. "Should I... um... let him in?""No." Ulysses refused immediately before even asking for Dylan's intentions. And then a man made his way across the office towards the student council president's desk."No need because I am coming in myself.""Seriously?" Ulysses murmured.Dylan made himself comfortable and sits on the chair placed before the desk, opposite to Ulysses. He shows his killer smile and puts his leg on top of the other like a boss."What's with the long face, darling? Aren't you happy to see me?" Dylan emphasized their unofficial endearment that he decided on the spot.Mico, who is silent in the side blushes. For his two years of working with Mr. President, this is the first time he heard someone dared to call him "darling". And it came from out from a guy's lips on top of that!Ulysses knits his eyebrows. Looking at Dylan like he's staring at a piece of garbage. "Who's your darling? Stop blabbering nonsense. Aren't you ashamed of yourself?"Dylan chuckled hearing that response. Not showing any signs of embarrassment. "Don't be ashamed. You'll get used to it sooner or later."Then he gives the president a wink that made Ulysses want to die temporarily. But of course, as the esteemed Student Council President, he can't lose his cool. Not in front of this stupid campus heartthrob... again."Well, what are you doing here?"Finally getting asked of his intentions, Dylan beams a bright wide smile. "I'll walk you home!"Ulysses raised his right hand, declining the offer. "No, thank you."Then he averted his eyes and continues sorting the documents on his table.Dylan can't help it but to facepalm. His sweet smile faded in an instant. He thought, "This SC president... he's playing hard to get. Does he think I'll give up just like that? Ha! I'll show you what I'm capable of."He showed a lazy smile to Ulysses and complains. "Here we are again. Why are you so grumpy? How will I get your sweet yes if you're always salty?""Not my problem." Ulysses is still acting indifferent.Dylan sighs as if he's losing hope. "Ulysses, Ulysses. Are you sure you don't like this heartthrob?"Without even looking back at the other, Ulysses answers, "Do I even look like I like you?""Yes! I mean who doesn't?" He speaks as if Ulysses' words don't make sense, and that liking him is the most normal thing on this planet."You!" Dylan points at Secretary Mico."Me?" Mico pointed to himself. He looked surprised because he was never a part of the conversation and then suddenly, he's included.Dylan nods. "Yes, you. Do you hate me?""No." Mico immediately answered while waving both hands. Why would he hate him when this is their first time talking to each other?"Then that means you like me," Dylan smirked like he just won something from it. "See? Even Mr. Secretary likes me.""..."Mico is speechless. Actually, he really doesn't hate him but he doesn't like this guy either. But now that he thinks about it, does the fact "He doesn't hate him" is similar to "He likes him?".Mico could only scratch his head. He doesn't know what to think anymore."You really are shameless." Ulysses puts the papers in his hands down and looks at Dylan with a solemn expression on his face. "Cut the nonsense. Why are you here?"Dylan, on the other hand, raises his eyebrows, "Didn't I told you already? I'll walk you home."Ulysses, "Didn't I decline already?"Dylan being rejected twice in a row made him snort. "You are really refusing my offer? Don't you know that a lot of girls wish to be in your shoe?"Ulysses just shrugged it off. "Then walk them home instead."Like a child throwing a fit, Dylan kicks several times and exclaims. "But they're not the ones I'm courting! You are!"Ulysses remained looking collected. But the truth is, he's running out of patience again. "Dylan, what part of the word 'No' that you don't understand? Get out."Dylan, "I'm not leaving."Ulysses massages the bridge of his nose. "I still have some things to do so I suggest that you go home now.""It's okay. I'll wait. Denise will explain it to my mom so it's fine. And... did you know? Pfft..." He tried so hard to suppress his laughter that he got interrupted by himself."She said she's supporting me to pursue you!""..."Ulysses was never expecting that there'll be a chance for him and Denise. However, hearing that made him even more hopeless. That's it! Fate let them meet but they're not destined to be a significant person in each other's life."Mr. President." Mico leans closer to the president. "What if you let him help you so these piled-up tasks will finish sooner?""Alright." Ulysses considered the idea. If he's this stubborn, better make good use of him. "Dylan, since you're not going home, help with these."Dylan's lips form a mischievous smile again. "If I help, will you be my boyfriend by then?""Nevermind. Get out."Ulysses' pride and reputation as the currently most respected student in the entire Northwestern High School still dominated. He'd rather work all night than be this stupid campus heartthrob's lover.Given without any options, Dylan frowns."Psh. Fine. What do I have to do?"Result for the second attempt in winning the SC President: Still Uncertain. The update will be in the next chapters.Henlo! Mingyan here! Your thoughts matter to me. Please let me know about it in the comments. :) And if you don't mind, please do me a little favor by giving my story a review. Thank you!
Dylan leans on the backrest of the sofa. He just got home and tiredness is evident in his perfectly chiseled face.Even though he's soaking with his sweat, he still looks so handsome. This only made him look even hotter... at least that's what he sees in the mirror.Denise noticed her brother's presence which made her smile playfully. She then headed towards him, even hopping at times.Meanwhile, Dylan just looks at her with a straight face. He knows what she's up to.Denise throws herself on the sofa, looking at Dylan as she rises and lowers her eyebrows several times."So, how was your afternoon with Ulysses?"Dylan let out a deep sigh. Whether it's out of tiredness or disappointment, even he isn't so sure anymore."I swear, he's worse than women! He's hard to deal with!" He complains to his sister. "I am a guy too but I don't think I'm cheeky!""Well... you are cheeky!" She emphasized "You are" because why not? Her brother is cheeky. Boldly rude, impudent,
"Tch. Look at you, sleeping so soundly while I'm having a hard time reading your handwriting." Dylan stares at Ulysses, who is napping in his chair, with a pair of sharp eyes. "You should write properly, yeah?"Fate is playing with Dylan. He said to himself that he will stay here even if they end up staying until eight in the evening. And now, it's already 7:43 pm, almost eight! However, there is still a piece of good news in the flood of unfortunate events. He managed to input every word of every page of Ulysses' barely readable 13-page handwritten report. He also printed it and placed it in the folder with his handwritten report. He dropped it in his desk, creating a sound that echoed in the entirety of this small office. Hoping this would wake him up.One... two... three... No reaction.Ulysses didn't even move a single muscle, not even slightly opening his eyes. There's no sign that he'll wake up any time soon. This didn't make Dylan give up. he picks up the fo
It's almost ten in the evening and Dylan is still up staring at his phone's black screen, reflecting his handsome features. For some reason, he feels somehow uneasiness inside of him.At the moment, he's arguing with himself whether he should call or at least send Ulysses a chat. The fact that Ulysses is sick and is living alone in an almost dilapidated state apartment makes him wonder if he's fine by himself. But the thought that he might be fast asleep by now makes him hesitate. He let out a deep sigh and buries his face on his pillow. Why is he worrying too much? He's been living alone for four years now. In those four long years, this isn't the first time that he's sick, right? But what is it that made him worry over Ulysses? Well, it's because of what he discovered after he walks him home."You're getting farther from your house." Ulysses said when they took another turn away from the main road. "You can go now. You don't have to accompany me anymore.""Nah
Ulysses stares at Dylan's back as his figure goes smaller the farther he gets. He didn't go inside his room until his vision lost him.The night is chilly and if he stays a little longer, he's afraid he'll catch a cold. He'd be lying if he says this apartment he's renting doesn't make him feel lonely. In fact, every time he goes back here, he's reminded that he's alone in this journey in achieving his dreams; to be a teacher someday. Even if sometimes he feels like his "unseen friend" makes him feel his presence by dropping things on the floor, or banging/opening his door, and even hiding things, it still feels different to be with another human being. He enters his small room and turns on the only lightbulb. There's nothing much inside. Just a wooden table good for two with a rice cooker on top of it, a study table, and a bed.Although the lightings inside his room is a little dim, his vision is strangely darker than usual. It got worse until he feels dizzy.Ul
"You really recovered, huh?" Dylan said as he sits next to Ulysses. He just got into their classroom and still has his bag on and didn't bother to put it on his own seat first. There's still some time before the first subject begins, and the person who's originally sitting where Dylan sits still hasn't arrived."Of course. Didn't I told you there's nothing to be worried about?" He said casually like nothing strange really happened last night. The truth is, Ulysses woke up this morning laying on the wooden floor. He's still in his school uniform and his bag was still on his back.He felt really hungry and thirsty when he woke up since he hasn't taken anything for dinner.A mocking grin slowly forms on Ulysses' face. "Don't tell me you're actually worried about me despite what I told you?""What? Of course n--- yes!" Dylan almost said did it again. He was about to deny it but he remembers that he needs to be extra nice to this person. And then the drama king
[Ulysses!]Ulysses' eyebrows knit when he saw the message that Dylan sent in messenger. As usual, he's going to ignore it first. If Dylan sent him another one, he might as well reply to it. It might be something important but... what could be so important that this stupid heartthrob have for him? Nothing. It's a weekend but he's still doing official jobs through online negotiation. He's trying to bargain with the Broadcasting Club in hope that they will not publish his picture pinning Dylan on the wall. For sure, this nosy club will publish it on Monday along with a weird article about it.Actually, it's not just the Broadcasting Club that took a picture of them. Some girls managed to take some too using their smartphones. Even if he managed to convince the Broadcasting Club not to publish it, their photo will be seen by many, probably to every student in Northwestern High School. It is inevitable and now, his clean image is tarnished. But what he's after here is to at leas
"I won't go there." Ulysses plainspokenly said, refusing to go inside of this strange stall in the town square."We're already here. Don't be such a whiner." Dylan pulls him to enter the said stall. It's a tent-like stall, covering the interior with thick violet curtains, leaving only several signs outside. Apparently, it's a stall where several psychics are inside. They are paid to tell a person's past, present, and future true tarot reading. So, why are they here exactly?A few hours ago, Dylan told Ulysses about Denise going out with some unknown guy. Knowing Denise, she doesn't seem to have a thought of getting herself a boyfriend. All she cares about is her active lifestyle and her Women's Volleyball Club. And these sudden actions of her surprised Dylan and Ulysses.Even though Ulysses isn't hoping for much from Denise, he's still intrigued by what Dylan said to him. Because of this, he dropped the draft writing in his apartment and decided to go with Dylan, who sec
"Let's just go home." Ulysses sits on a park bench. They've been walking for some time now. His feet hurt already and Denise is still nowhere to be found."But what about my sister?" Dylan still didn't give up looking for her. His eyes wander around the park.It seems they really lost them."Denise is already grown up. She knows what she's doing." He thinks that Dylan is just being so overprotective. The guy that Denise is going out with looks like a soft one. It seems they're just besties but Ulysses doesn't think Dylan observed that.Ulysses can't help but feel like he just wasted his time on a nonsense matter. "And I was doing something in my room."Dylan stopped looking around just to face Ulysses with his eyes raised. "Is it school-related? Ulysses, it's Saturday! Don't you rest on weekends?"Their gazes only met for a while since Ulysses averted his from the other. "I usually do but all thanks to you, I have to bargain with the broadcasting club.""Wha-
"Who are you?" Bryce responded with another question instead followed by another one. "Are you perhaps Ulysses?" On the other hand, Ulysses finds this person suspicious. Does he know his past relationship with Dylan? Is this person very close to him that Dylan would tell him even about their warm love that ran cold? "If Dylan is here, I'd like to talk to him." "He's not in his best state. What do you want to tell him?" Bryce leans on the door jamb without breaking his indifferent look at Dylan. "I'll relay it for you." From the looks of it, it seems he doesn't want Ulysses, who went through all the trouble just to see Dylan once again, to at least take a glimpse at him. "No, I'd like to speak to him personally." Ulysses still insisted. His patience for Bryce is starting to burn, and it shows on his face. He knows Dylan is inside the room. If he's very drunk, where else would he be except in there? Despite the obvious annoyance that's written all over
Ulysses' wristwatch shows it's already past 10 in the evening. Even though it's already this late, the streets are still dominated by private vehicles but not as much during rush hours. He kept his windows open, allowing the cold air coming from the outside to touch his skin. But not that it bothers him even a bit.The recital has just ended. Ulysses hurried to get into his car and left the theater at high speed. Actually, he knows that the gathering will end by 10 but he's still holding into the little bit of hope that he can still see him, even at a distance. He doesn't know what keeps him pushing to come and see Dylan with his own eyes but that's the only thing that's on his mind, to at least meet him after a long time of separation.Unfortunately, the theatre and the resort where the reunion is being held is a little distant so it would surely take Ulysses sometime before arriving at the destination. And as expected, the time Ulysses arrived, the event is over.
"Sir? Sir Lopez?" A student waves his hand a few centimeters away from Ulysses's face. Only by them is he able to get himself together and get back to reality."Yes?" He was so occupied with his thoughts that he didn't realize that he's already spacing out. He got a text message from Denise earlier, and what she texted him made Ulysses feel uneasy."Sir, our pianist got a stomachache and he thinks he couldn't make it." The student said with his worries reflecting on his entire face. "What should we do? Our class is performing next to the current performing class."Their class is performing an hour-long orchestra. And in an orchestra, the piano is a must-have. Now that the one and only pianist in the group is unable to perform, their six months' worth of preparation will go to waste. And it would be a disgrace to their class if that happens. They will have to face a lot of negative feedback from the faculty and from the outside even if this problem can't be solve
"Hi, Dylan! Long time no see!" One of Dylan's high school friends, and also used to be a member of his fan club, cheerfully greeted him as soon as he steps inside the venue. It's a beach party so the batch rented a whole resort for this night.Yes, tonight is the night for their batch reunion. Actually, this gathering is already the batch's second reunion. Apparently, Dylan missed the first one since he refuses to have a homecoming. And so, this would be the first gathering with his old acquaintance in high school that he'll attend. And one more thing, he's not going by himself. Bryce volunteered himself to accompany him, and Dylan doesn't mind at all as long as he'll take care of his own entrance fee of the resort."You rarely come home! How long has it been? Almost nine years? I haven't seen you after our graduation."Dylan shrugged his shoulders as he gives her his signature smile. Really, his charm never fades through time. "Got too busy with my work.
For the second time, Dylan hung up the call. No warnings, no proper explanation was provided. He just hung up as soon as he learned who he was talking to. No one knows how long Ulysses stares at his phone screen but for sure, it took him quite some time to realize he's already spacing out. He sits on the edge of his bed with his phone still in his hand. A lot of thoughts came rushing into his head. And the loudest of it all was the thought of how Dylan felt for him at the moment. "Does he hate me that much to end the call as soon as he knew who am I?" "Is he not willing to reconcile with me?" "Will he... really throw it all behind?" Those questions were just some of the thoughts Ulysses is dealing with. He asks himself these questions but deep inside he knows only Dylan could satisfy his wonder. And the last question he has for himself hits worse than the rest. Why would he wonder if he'll throw away what they had in the past? Is he se
Ulysses headed directly to his bedroom, shut the door closed, and throws himself on the bed. He doesn't even bother to turn the lights on. At the moment, he only has the gentle light from the moon as his source of illumination.Heart beating fast, hands getting cold, and droplets of sweat starting to form on his forehead despite how cold the night is. Ulysses stares at the small piece of paper that he's been holding for quite some time now. The longer he stares at it, the more anxious he becomes. So, why is he being nervous over a piece of paper? Well, it's because it has written numbers on it. It's Dylan's phone number. He took his phone and inputs the numbers on it. He even checked the numbers twice if not thrice. Still not satisfied, he checked the numbers that he had input for the fourth time. No doubt, he dialed the correct order of numbers.Ulysses took a deep breath. It's now or never. He taps the green button on his phone screen, calling th
"Sir, it's already five o'clock."Only by then did Ulysses noticed that he's been spacing out. He looks at his wristwatch and saw that the time is exactly five pm. Surely, students would want to leave their classes as soon as possible."It really is. Time sure flies." Ulysses stretches his limbs before getting up from his seat. "Alright, that's all for today, class. You may now go."As soon as Ulysses said the magic words, his students are quick to pack their things, preparing to leave. Ulysses also did the same. He sorted out the paper on his desk and put it in his bag."Practice the music sheets I provided you, okay? Our recital is fast approaching." He reminded the students about their upcoming showcase."Yes, sir!" Then the students go out of the room one at a time if not two. It's almost been nine years since he graduated from Northeastern High School. As of the moment, he's working as a music teacher in a private school of music and ar
Dylan finds himself in a pitch dark place. He can't see a thing, not even his hands. His eyes are wide open yet it still seems like he has his eyes closed. "Where am I?" Dylan asked himself. "Anyone here? Ulysses? Where are you?" Even after asking for anyone's presence, he didn't get a single response. Dylan tried so hard to recall what exactly happened before he came into this dark place. As far as he could remember, he's in an old mansion with Ulysses after they run away from their house. And then he suddenly feels unwell. And then he took a rest on Ulysses' arms. And then... and then after that, he couldn't remember a single thing. Could it be... he's just dreaming at the moment? "How could you forget about me?" A familiar voice echoed in the area. That voice of a man sounded like it came from a cave. It sounded so distant yet loud. Dylan isn't so sure about what's happening around him anymore. "How could you easily throw it all away?
Ulysses recounts all the money he has. It's not much but he thinks he's able to support their needs in the meantime. "I still have some savings from the allowance I got from my scholarship and plus yours... I think it should be sufficient for both of us until I get my first payout for work."If Dylan won't change his mind and stay stubborn as he is now, Ulysses will be forced to spend his vacation to work. And if this setup will be for the long term, he'll just do a part-time job on the night shift and go to school by day. Since he got himself a scholarship and school allowance, that would be extra money."..." Dylan, on the other hand, is silently looking at his wallet. He's not wearing a happy face so it's safe to say that he doesn't have much money with him.Ulysses knows him very well. He's prideful and quite stubborn at times. It's clear that he still needs his mother's help to get through his day-to-day life. However, his attitude gets on the w
