When the door to his office opened, it was the strawberry scent that assaulted his nostril that made him know that it was a woman that came in, and who it was exactly.

Although, when a nurse had knocked down on Noah’s office door to let him know a woman was looking for him, he knew it could either be just two people, his mother, or Grace.

Grace! She had told her earlier that she might drop by to see him at the hospital. She was taking a break from the coffee shop today as insisted by Charlotte, the mother hen.

When she told him, he had wondered why she would want to waste her day on dropping by to see him when he was at work, where he could even not be able to see her because he might be in surgery, but he was glad she met him here at his office.

He raised up his head, standing up to walk to her and pulling her into a hug. He needed that, but he wasn’t going to admit it. “Hi, Grace, he said as he offered her a seat, then he walked back to his seat and watched her as she sat down. "To

There was a knock at the door when Grace came back out from taking a shower and getting dressed. She was dressed in a soft material of lace for her white and yellow top, with a pair black jeans that was ripped at the knees. She glanced at the kitchen table to see that Charlotte and Noah had set out the table, and it was just Charlotte in there. She realized Noah must have gone to take a shower, so she walked to the door."That should be Noah’s parents!” She said as she rubbing her hands together. “I'll go get the door. Help me get the cups out of the top cabinet." She said.Charlotte smiled with a shake of her head as she watched Grace stopped at the door and looked at herself in the small mirror near the door to make sure she was fine. There was nothing she could say, she sure knew that she like Noah, enough that she wanted to appear good in front of his parents. Why else was she checking if she was okay and everything was in place before she could open the door. It had been thirty minutes since he called Charlotte and she told him Grace had left work, but she was yet to be home.“Just calm down, she’s probably somewhere buying something.” Noah told himself as he walked to the door the fifth time that night. It was getting late and the sky was getting darker. It was not the usual nights they had here in town, because the moon was not out, it was darker than it should be for seven o’clock in the evening.“Where in the world are you, Grace.” He didn’t want to panic, because he might just about lose his mind. Noah had all his life on a path, knowing exactly what he wanted out of life, and that was after going to medical school and becoming a surgeon, he was to get married and have kids, but that dream had evaporated out of him when his fiancée had skipped town. Not since then, not a single time had he thought of that dream again. In fact, he had just labeled it a pipe dream, something that only happened to some certain kind of people. Then Grace

“All right, that’s the last one.” Grace said to Charlotte as she handed her the apron she had around her neck, and watched as the last customer walked out.She walked to the door after that, and turned the open and closed sigh around so that the customers knew they were closed for the day, then she walked back to Charlotte.“Thank you for much for today, Grace.” Charlotte said, smiling at her and referring to how she had been handling all the customers and how more customers had been coming over because of her. According to them, it was her smile that was pulling them right back. Although, Charlotte knew it was because of the fact that Grace was a beautiful woman and they probably kept coming back and being nice to her because they wanted to try their luck.Grace waved her hand with a shake of her head. “It’s not a big deal. I’m just doing my job.” She grabbed her bag and then her coat from the hanger and said. “I should leave now. It’s really late, and I didn’t bring the car.”“I cou

“Damn!” Grace cursed as she realized what had happened. Everything was gone, including her bag, clothes and phone. She had left them right there and it was gone. She wondered who it could be and what they had been thinking doing this. The only reason she was calm was because she knew this couldn’t be her ex husband’s doing. If it wasn’t so late, and she was already freezing in the water, she might have thought it funny. It was really getting late, and when she looked around, she couldn’t see anyone, but she knew if she was going to walk home in her underwear, then she was going to have to make sure everyone had gone to bed, and the town was asleep before she could leave here. She wondered what Noah would think right now, or whether he would be so tired he would have gone to bed. She wondered what it would be like, if when she showed up at home in her underwear, and found Noah waiting out in the living room for her.“Damn, he had better be sleeping.” She muttered to herself, embarrassm

Rushing out of the car as soon as he parked it, he started to walk towards the lake, looking around while he did that. The place was deserted, and he wondered why Grace had thought it was all right to come to the lake this late at night. As he drove here, all he could think of are the what ifs that could happen. He couldn’t for the life of him, understand why she had not even bothered calling him any letting him know she would be coming here. Not only was it so irresponsible or her, but also very unexpected, and he hated how his heart squeezed in pain when he thought of the what ifs that something might have happened to her. That aside, he had been calling her back home before Jimmy arrive to tell him where he thought she went, and the drive all the way down here, he had done nothing but call her, and at some point, the phone had switched off.She probably didn’t remember to have it charged, that was the most reasonable reason he could come up with, but then again, when his mind came

Placing her gently in the passenger seat of his truck, he grabbed out his white coat from the back seat to cover her up a bit. She was really blue now, and he cursed.“Why do you have to test being brave like this?” He muttered under her breath before closing the door and getting in himself. He turned on the heater as soon as he started the car, then he started to drive them both home.As he drove through the silent streets with the car’s heater humming softly in the background, he glanced at her, curled up in the passenger seat, wrapped in a blanket. Despite the warmth filling the car, he couldn’t shake off the image of her, vulnerable and exposed in that water, waiting for midnight so that she could walk home in her underwear without being seen. How reckless was that? Why in the world would she want to walk home when she was in that state, and most importantly, half naked. She might think that no one would see her, but someone might. What did she think would go throw through their m

After the messed up night at the lake and Noah came to her rescue one more time, Grace decided she had to avoid him, be out of his way, and stay as out of his sight as much as possible, and so far, everything had been just fine.“Thank goodness for that.” She whispered to herself. It wasn’t easy, but she had been able to do it for a whole week. She knew it might not be a big deal for others, but for her, it was. She had been making sure to work around his schedule, leaving her room only when he was gone to work, or leaving very early to open the shop, and coming either very early or late, depending on whichever worked for his schedule.Walking alone was becoming a normal thing for her and she only had to look over her shoulder just a few times.“You better learn to stop doing that.” She thought mentally, sighing as she thought about what it would be like not having to look over her shoulder ever again. What had happened with Noah might not be something others would be embarrassed of,

Grace’s heart pounded with nervous anticipation as the car pulled up in front of the grand entrance to the charity event. “Be still, my heart.” She whispered. If this was some other day when she wasn’t so tensed and nervous, she would have thrown her head back and laughed at the ridiculousness of her words to steady herself. No one said words like that anymore, talk less, to themselves. She clutched her purse to herself as Noah offered her his hand to pull her out of the back of the limo Zeke had arranged. According to him, they needed to arrive in style, so that people would know they were of importance, as that would aid their plans for the night. The swarm of reporters and flashing cameras waiting outside made her feel uneasy, but there was a faint sense of relief knowing that anything that transpired tonight would be caught on camera, dissuading Jack from trying anything untoward. As she held unto Noah’s hand, she felt as if she could conquer the whole world, his confidence radiat

They were back in San Diego, according to Zeke’s request that they attend Jack’s charity event he was hosting with some people. He said he suspected that this was how they had been able to keep under the radar for a long while, and he wanted them to show up there. So, being nervous and tensed was just an understatement. If anything, she was scared, and the way her heart was leaping hard in her throat, pumping hard against her rib cage, was indication enough. Her hands trembled as she attempted to apply a touch of makeup, but her nerves made the task difficult. Tonight was the night she would confront her ex-husband, Jack, face-to-face for the first time since she ran away from him.Zeke’s plan echoed in her mind, the fact that he had said they had to attend this charity event, hosted by Jack and his associ

Grace sighed, feeling a mix of relief and regret. “Noah, I… I’m sorry,” she said, her voice tinged with remorse. “I had no idea you felt that way. I was hurt and confused, thinking I had repulsed you in anyway. I mean, I’ve seen how attractive your ex girlfriend looks, so...”She trailed off to look away from him, getting embarrassed from talking this close to him.
