Even slightly stunned, Miguel nodded and indicated my heart with his head to Kleyphon. Silent and still desperate for Divine forgiveness, Kleyphon went to my car, and settled in the back seat along with Miguel. Anne and Zylah cast glances of doubt in the direction of the only back seat, which would put one of them next to a still bloody and tearful archangel. They decided with a single look that they would rather sit on each other's lap than be next to the men, so I took the direction and took everyone home.

The silence inside the car was as charged as the air. And even with the windows closed, everyone could smell Kleyphon's strong blood. At least the archangel had the good sense to stop crying, but he kept making low sounds like a prayer, and I avoided looking through the rearview mirror because Miguel's expression was so brittle and desperate that I would have cried a little more just noticing.

I parked in the usual place, and moved away from everyone so I could leave the door open
