“If you don’t let me tend your wounds, you’ll die, and what good will you be to Rachael then?” Edward demanded in exasperation.

Caleb snarled back at his brother, his impatience simmering like a cauldron. “You should be with Rachael. She is who needs tending. If she dies because we stand here arguing, I’ll make Mary a widow, I swear it.”

Edward blew out his breath in frustration. “If I have to sit on you and have Alan clean your wound, I’ll do it. The sooner you allow me to tend you, the sooner Rachael will get the care she needs.”

Caleb swore viciously. “Would you allow me to tend you if Mary had suffered as Rachael has? Nay, you would insist that Mary be taken care of first.”

“Gannon is with Rachael. He’ll call if he has need of me. Rachael's wound is fresh. Yours is not and it has already begun festering. Damn it, Caleb, give over so that you can rest beside her.”
