“What client meeting?”

The room fell silent. Tia turned to me, her expression a mixture of annoyance and fake concern. “Oh, Varya. I didn’t realize you were still here.”

“Clearly,” I said, struggling to keep my voice even. “What’s going on? Why wasn’t I informed about this meeting?”

Tia sighed dramatically. “We didn’t want to bother you. You’ve seemed so stressed lately.”

I curled my hands as if holding some invisible objects. "I feel stressed because I am being deliberately kept in the dark about significant events. This is unacceptable.”

Tia shrugged. “Maybe this isn’t the place for you if you can’t manage stress too."

This hit me like a bolt. I could feel the eyes of my co-workers watching me, to some, with kindness and concern and to some, without mind. Somehow I managed to calm myself and remain relatively collected.

“I can handle the pressure. What I can’t handle is being kept in the dark.”

"Why will you go behind me to meet a client I have been assigned to, I have gone far with

I stirred and opened my eyes to the sound coming from the hallway in front of my door. As earlier, for a while, I was asleep but awake enough to hear sounds outside, barely able to fully focus my thoughts. Finally, the noise was still sounding in a continuous manner, and I could not contain myself anymore from getting close to finding out what it was. I quietly got up and moved towards the door while opening it slightly to check what was going on.To my surprise, I saw Dora and Kylo’s driver, Mr. Thompson, packing boxes. Dora was impeccably dressed, as always in a beautiful dress that enhanced her bubbly personality, and was giving some directions to the driver while holding a phone to her ears. “Yes, I'll be around soon,” She said speaking to someone on the phone, there was a trace of irritation in her voice. “I have a shoot in Paris, and I can’t afford to be late.A shoot in Paris? I could hardly believe my luck. Was she really leaving? For how long? My mind raced with

“You have to deal with it, it’s my house, oh and prepare some food I’ll be back late” he drove off after that.Huh? What am I, a cook? Did he pay for that? Cocky bastard! I came back home from work and felt so drained, so I thought that I should give myself an opportunity to dine at that small restaurant near the downtown area. Expecting the delicious duvet and company of the quietude, the warm food, and the solitude were little perks away from the life of confusion I faced. Coming into the restaurant, I could immediately smell the aroma of the foods being served as well as hear the faint conversations made by the customers. Sitting down by the window I ordered myself a meal and tried to let my mind ease while watching the calm world outside of the diner Through the window I saw a couple walking into the restaurant as my food came. My heart skipped a beat when I recognized them. Theo and Tia come in hand in hand, and it seems like a match made in heaven. They had seen me, it

Too much of the resentment I was feeling at work was because of Tia, who just bent or twisted or broke whatever rules I put out into my world, and thought it was a fucking joke. Sighing as I walked down the hallway leading to Kylo's office to deliver some papers; I could only hope we'd both been too busy today to see each other. But as I came closer, a voice that I was familiar with resonated from within the walls.“Tia,” I thought, my stomach sinking. “What is she doing here again?”Kylo's office door was cracked open and I could see Tia standing beside him with a hand on his arm. She had leaned in and almost whispered in a seductive voice.“Kylo, you know we’d make a great team,” she purred. “Why don’t you give us a chance?”Kylo, to his credit, looked disinterested and uncomfortable. He stepped back, creating distance between them. “Tia, this isn’t appropriate,” he said firmly. “You’re crossing a line.”But Tia wasn’t deterred. She moved closer again, her intentions clear.

KYLO’S POVIt had been a whirlwind of a day, dozens of meetings back to back same corporate chaos as always. Occasionally, as I negotiated my way through the ceaseless work, I thought of Varya. Our arrangement was purely contractual, yet there was something about her that intrigued me.It wasn’t love—not yet, anyway—but she was different. Unpredictable. And unpredictability had a way of capturing my attention.Tia came straight to my office while I was in the office arranging the files. Just as fearless and abrasive as before, with a mischievous glint in her eye that told me whatever Morgan had planned was exactly what I expected.“Kylo we have to talk,” she stated arming the door.“Tia, I'm working,” I said without taking my eyes off my paper. I wanted her to take the hint, but of course, she didn't.She went over to my desk instead and stayed closer than would have been polite. “Kylo, you know we’d make a great team. Why don’t you give us a chance?”I sighed and leaned back

VARYA’S POVNot wanting my emotions to get the better of me, I decided to change route back home, with the intention of toning down my thoughts while taking a walk in the park. This was a much-needed break because the crisp air from the trees and the whispering of the leaves made everything so peaceful. While I was walking one day deep in my own mind down a country trail, a voice shouted my name. Then I turned around and my worst enemy – my ex-fiancé, Theo, was approaching me with those contender's eyes.“Varya, we need to talk,” He stated firmly, his tone personal yet panicked.“What do you want, Theo?” I asked, trying to keep my tone steady despite the sudden rush of emotions. “We have nothing to discuss.”He requested "Hear me out.” as he moved forward. “I have been considering so much about us.”“Us?” I scoffed, incredulous. “There is no us, Theo. You made sure of that.”He reached out to grab my hand, but I pulled away. “I made a mistake, Varya,” he said, his eyes plea

I worked very hard for weeks and tried to stay with both the simplicities and complications of my life with Kylo, and then I was able to spare an evening and go to my mother’s place. Every time I thought of seeing her, I felt happy yet at the same time nervous. She had suffered from a number of ailments before the surgery, but now she seems to have regained her health fully and I was looking forward to the day she would flash her teeth at me again. I missed the way she looked at me, the way she kept it real with me, and most of all her tender embrace. When I got into her ward, I saw her propped up in bed, more energetic than the last time I met her in a medical facility. It was a different moment and she looked satisfied to see me and I felt the same way.“Varya, my beautiful girl,” she added, spreading her arms apart broadly. I ran to her and hugged her tenderly, “Mom, you look so much better,” with tears in my eyes. “Thank you my girl I’ve missed you too!”“I’ve missed you t

I was glad to find Jasmine on the couch watching TV when I visited my old home and she smiled at me when I joined her “Hey honey,” she stood up and hugged me “How is your mother?” I have not been here for long.“She’s getting better,” I said, returning her embrace. “The surgery really made a difference. She’s more like her old self again.”“That’s great to hear,” Jasmin said, her eyes shining with relief. “I’ve been so worried.”We settled onto the plush sofa, and I recounted my visit, sharing the highlights and trying to gloss over the more emotional parts. Jasmin listened intently, her concern for me evident in her eyes.“And she said something interesting about Kylo,” I added, almost as an afterthought.“Oh?” Jasmin perked up. “What did she say?”“She said he visited her a week ago and was kind and thoughtful,” I explained, still finding it hard to believe. “She thinks he has a good heart behind all those indifferent expressions.”Jasmin raised an eyebrow. “Kylo? Her eyebrows were raised with an expression of contempt shown. “Can’t you see I’m shopping with my sister-in-law?” You were entirely useless. Thank goodness my brother didn’t choose you, it would have been such a waste.”The words are cutting deep, cutting sharper than any knife could. I bit my lip trying to hold back the tears and overflowing tide of emotions. At the side of mine, my hands changed into mounts as I tried to find my voice.Jasmin, always my defender, stepped forward. “Hey, you can’t talk to her like that—”I held up a hand, stopping her. This was something I needed to handle myself. Taking a deep breath, I turned to Leah, meeting her gaze steadily. “That you can breathe today and walk around holding your sister-in-law’s hand is thanks to me. As a matter of fact, you owe your life to me. You are indebted to me as long as you breathe. But I don’t regret it. I’m sure I would have done the same for a stranger who didn’t know me.”Leah’s face twisted in anger, but I

This was what I had been preparing for, what we had been waiting for.The baby was coming, and I was going to bring them into the world.Kylo never left my side, his voice a constant source of encouragement, his hand a lifeline as I struggled through each contraction. He wiped my forehead with a cool cloth and whispered words of love and re

This confidence he had in us, in our capacity to manage a new phase boosted my morale erasing my fear places.I remember it very vividly, we were watching a movie one afternoon while lying on the couch in the living room and suddenly I felt a vigorous kick. I choked on my words, putting the palm of my hand on my swollen belly.“What happened?” Kylo asked, sitting up at once.“Everything is okay,” I replied cheerfully. "The baby just kicked really hard. Here, feel."I guided his hand to the spot, and we both waited. A moment later, another kick came, this time even stronger.Kylo's eyes widened in amazement. "Wow... they're strong.""I know," I laughed. "I think we're going to have a little soccer player on our hands."He grinned, leaning down to press a kiss to my belly. "I can't wait to meet you, little one. But take it easy on your mom, okay?"I watched him, my heart swelling with love. Seeing Kylo so involved, and so excited about becoming a father, made everything feel even more s

It was rather reassuring to be back home after the whirlwind which is our honeymoon, yet at the same time it was also rather daunting. The Island was once a beautiful place where all I cared for was our presence, Kylo and I had no other distractions. But it was time for us to step back and face our day-to-day lives, my pregnancy, and everything that came with it.By then I was several months pregnant and some of the symptoms were clearly visible to the naked eye. My tummy protruded out significantly and with that some effect of carrying a child. While the honeymoon had provided respite from pregnancy, the moment we were home, pregnancy was as real as reality could get. When about the house I felt both at ease with being home though nervous about the changes happening to me and around me.It pleased me that Kylo stayed close at my side; his fingers lightly brushing over my lower back.He got more caring and thoughtful than ever; I could easily see how much he cared for me and how much

I trusted him with everything that I had: heart, future, and life. Two days later we were in a private jet, by the influence I guess Kylo had, I had no idea where we were going. Kylo was not on specifics up to that time, but I did not give it much thought. There is nothing like suspense or perhaps relying on the unknown on the person. With that, I reclined in the chair and then looked at the shrinking landscape outside the plane’s small window. Kylo leaned forward, picked up my hand in his, and I looked at him and smiled. “You’re really not going to give me any hints?” I said as calmly as I could, though my voice was visibly laden with curiosity. Kylo chuckled, shaking his head. “Nope. You’ll find out soon enough.” I pouted playfully, but I knew better than to press him. Kylo loved his surprises and I must say, I enjoyed them as well. There’s something good about not knowing what’s next, about just going with the flow and chilling. The flight went by in no time, with Ky

Those days after the wedding were as if I was on honeymoon, loved being in that state, and did not want to wake up. I might as well describe it like this; the tranquility that came over me was one I never felt before. It was as though a weight I had no idea was lifted off my back, allowing me to breathe freely once more. There was a warmth that filled my whole body in place of the constricted knots in my stomach. It is worth noting that in the beginning of the story our marriage can be described as a purely business-like arrangement, a very practical marriage of convenience. But instead with time, it had become something concrete, something lovely. The relationship that Kylo and I had was a product of the most unlikely circumstances and the complacency that I felt as I stared at the house we had constructed together could only be described as profound. It was morning, the sun was shining and the rays of sunlight started entering the room through the windows. I was now pl

Kylo went first, his voice steady as he began to speak.“So Varya,” he began glancing at my eyes all the time,“when we got married for the first time, it was a business deal between us; something that was advantageous to both of us but lacked emotional warmth typical of true marriage. I was unapproachable and even icy; I never gave you the love or respect that you deserved. But as time passed everything changed. I changed.”His grip on my hand tightened more and I could see how sincere he was from his facial expression which told me that he meant every word in every line on his face.“I fell in love with you Varya; it started off slowly before all these sudden feelings hit me. You taught me what it means to be there for someone else genuinely because one wants to change oneself for them.”“And I have caused you pain earlier but today I am making a promise as follows: To be the man whom you deserve; to love you wholly and to build a happy joyful life together based on faithfulness and

The morning of the wedding was as well fine with no clouds in the sky to disturb the blue of the day. Now I found myself back in front of the mirror in my childhood room strapped and ready for this like a kid on Christmas Eve.The dress I bought for my wedding was an off-white, beautiful lace and silk gown that fitted me to perfection. It was plain and elegant and made me feel like flowers were blooming on my dress and the garden we would be getting married in was nearby. My mother was frequently touching my face, fixing my veil in position enrollment arrangement She caught my eye in the mirror and smiled, her expression soft with love and pride.“You look stunning, Varya,” she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. “Kylo is a lucky man.”“Thank you, Mom,” I replied, my voice trembling slightly. “I just… I want today to be perfect.”“It will be,” she assured me, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder. “Today is about you and Kylo, about the love you share. That’s all that matters.

VARYA’S POVThe day after Kylo's proposal felt like waking up in a dream. When dawn parted the curtains and let in the golden rays, it was hard to imagine that only a few hours ago Kylo had proposed to me for real.My hand went to the ring I now wore on my finger and the diamond again shone brightly against the sun, creating rainbows around the room. The moments were somewhat dreamlike and yet whenever I touched the ring on my finger I did not need anyone to tell me that this was all real. Kylo loved me.I stood up from the bed and walked towards the window and I looked outside at the city that was an unspoken character in our story, the one filled with both sorrow and happiness. This led my mind to the wedding which was now even in front of us.They were not an extension of a prior commitment, or repetition of a promise; it was the start of something fresh, of reality. And so the preparations could only be special as well.I could feel the buzz once I made my way downstairs in the ho

He had planned this event to be an entertainment for families, as well as business counterparts. The atmosphere in the room was filled with laughter, echoes of glasses touching, and music. This was ideally the environment that I wanted when I had planned the entire thing, but the feeling that swelled in my chest was almost tangible.I thought I was standing by one of the tall windows of the building looking down on the city below. The twinkling bulbs were of a high intensity and I observed it was dark like the sky at night and this made me take my eyes off it for a while.Yet, there I was thinking about Varya most of the time. It was her that made me develop nerves today and became the reason for this nervous energy in the night. She stood across the room dressed in burgundy dress which enhanced the curves of her body. She was gorgeous and although I was quite far I could notice the look of despair she was masking so well.It was a sadness that I realized that I had provoked and this
