Chapter 4

ATHENA'S pov 

Was I really cursed as she had stated ?. Was I really not meant to be around people with love ?.

It did make sense since I was never with a family more than six months . Either returning me back or being murdered . Rosie and mark were the only ones that showed me love but they were killed in cold blood .

I could feel another wave of tears coming up . How was I to survive the streets ,?I was only eleven years old. 

*Now is not the time to cry girl, find shelter before dark*

My subconscious mind reminded 

I looked back at the orphanage for the last before starting my journey to the unknown

I kept walking .t he city wasn't far from here although it was too  dangerous at night for females,because of rapists, gangsters,traffickers etc..but I had no choice 

I kept walking  till I reached a T-junction, the east led to the city while the west led to the mountains ....

I took the east , there was no way in seven hells  was I going into the Woodlands alone . Who would help me if I was to be attacked..? No one. 

"maybe I will be lucky for a hike along the way.."I assured myself.

But no hike came ,badluck,

*i am going to die"

It's almost sundown but I kept on walking. Eleven or not ,I had to  be strong to survive..just like mom had asked before taking her last breath.

Something caught my eye a little bit in the forest near the road..

I went over for a clear look .I felt like I was just injected with a happiness syrup. My energy boosted at once. Right infront of me was an old house ,it looked abandoned because some  window were shattered on the next floor .

I went to it really excited.i tried to open it but it seemed to be locked .

I kicked the door but it didn't budge,so I  did one thing I could  think of . went a little distant from the door and zoomed back to the door and threw myself on the door .

"AW,THAT FUCKING HURT"

looking at door to see if it worked ,nop still close.

I'm pretty sure if it were to come to life ,it would be laughing at me..

I don't know how many times I had  thrown myself at the door to break it down but it still would open. My body was in pain 

I stood up,hold the handle to give it shake hoping  the lock would break .

"OPEN YOU LITTLE SHIT "

The second i pulled it towards me it opened .

"WHAT? ITS A PULL DOOR? AFTER ALL THAT I WENT THROUGH ...ARGGG OMG,MY BODY HURTS LIKE HELL BECAUSE OF THIS STUPID DOOR,AND TO THINK IT WAS NOT EVEN LOCKED AGH.." I yelled to no one in particular

"fuck my life,now i yell at a door ,a fucking door as if it will talk back,I really going crazy. OH GOD,I miss Rosie and papi" 

I went in ,the inside look better than the outside, white sheet on the furniture," well guess I found my new home,all it needs is cleaning and food,

damn I hungry

I removed the sheet covering the couch and  laid down on it .  I was trying to sleep but my belly wouldn't stop growling . I got up and checked the kitchen for any beans . I got one ,I smiled in satisfaction but my smile dropped when I saw the expiry date 27/03/1994 ,I felt like dying,that was years ago .

I opened the tin and ate, not caring whether they were expired. Finishing the whole thing ,I checked if there was water. I jumped with joy when I saw that indeed it was there. What more would I want ,I had shelter and water. 

I returned to the living room and laid down on the couch and close my eyes. Drifting off to Dreamland. Well it was more like a nightmare land since I woke up to another nightmare.a night of the day my parents were killed .

I got up to see it was morning. I stretched and greeted the necklace and a broken  bracelet

"Morning mom and PAPI"  

I smiled the them in my hand

"Now ,it's time find something to eat.." I stood up and ran out .the only place with food was the city market.i had seen it when mom and I were doing shopping .

I jogged down the road to the city. What I was going to do was wrong but I had to survive .

Arriving at the city ,I leaned against the wall trying to catch my breath. After some time ,I was breathing normal again. I evaluated the market for my sources of food and bags . I walked to where a lady was selling travel bags , since she was occupied with advertising,I took one bag without being noticed .

I ran to a safer distance and watched attentively for who would be my source of food .I saw a man shouting at a little boy . I hated abuse more than Anything on the world . I concluded that he was going to be my source of food .

I walked to the girl that was asking for money from people that passed. She was skin-bones. I had never seen a person as thin as her . 

"Hey ..." I greeted 

"Please take my money,I am hungry." 

" I am not going to take your little money but I am here to propose a deal ,,"

"What kind of a deal...??" 

"I will provide you with shelter in you help me in getting us food " I tried to convince her.

"shelter...is it a big house ,with beds and showers ?? especially since you sure do smell like you just got out of the shower" she mocked me 

" Look ,this is a great chance to get yourself a place to live. What do you say ?"

"Fine ...I hope you are not playing with my mind.so how can I help you??"

I smiled 

"All you have to do is go to that asshole and create a scene that he was sexually harrassing you while I pack his bread in this bag " I explained 

"How do I know that you won't ditch me ? " 

"I swear I won't "

She ran to the man and stood right infront of him . I ran to the other side , next to where he packed the bread on the table ...

She let out a thunderous scream 

" HELP .... HELP ......" 

people created a crowd to see what was happening.

" I WAS BEGGING HIM SO FOOD BUT HE HE.... HE....HE TOUCH MY FORBIDDEN FRUIT " she said crying 

I began packing the bread inside the bag while everyone was distracted.

" WHAT THE FUCK ??...THIS IS ALL FALLACIOUS"he defended

I kept filching , filling the bag ...once done ,I slowly moved away from them to where she could see me and signalled . She stumped on the man 's foot and ran towards me .

"That was petrifying but cool. He is so going to be exasperated when he realises that his bread is gone.. thanks for not ditching me ," she said smiling

"I am girl of my word ...." 

"I am Ella.." 

" Athena " I shook her bony hand 

" HEY STUPID GIRLS, BRING BACK MY BREAD. I FUCKING TOLD YOU I KNEW TOUCHED HER ...." 

"Time to run ,come on " I said taking her hand and we ran away
