Chapter 2

ATHENA'S POV

I was so exhilarated with my new family . They treated me with respect and in return I respected them . Never once in a month I had been with them had we argued . 

I love their craziness , it made them happy.

I was thankful that I had found someone who would show and give me experience of being part of a loving family . I had even started calling Rosie mom..she was on cloud nine when I called her that. She thanked me non stop claiming that I have given her the experience of being a mom.

As also called mark PAPI...being crazy as he was ,he picked me up and threw me In the air like I was a toddler. 

It was the best time of our lives but the greatest was when they announced that I would be starting school . Yes,at the orphanage ,we were schooled but it was the same as going to school , meeting new people .

I was already dressed up ,ready for my first day at school .

"BABY ,YOU DONT WANT TO BE LATE FOR YOUR FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL.." mom called from downstairs. I took one last look at the mirror and took my bag and ran out.

I inhale deeply when I got at bottom of the stairs. It was a mouth watering smell of blueberry pancakes. I ran to the kitchen to see PAPI shirtless,he rarely wore shirts. Mom was in her favourite apron.

"Are you excited for your first day at school?" 

"Excited but a little nervous..." I squealed 

"You will totally rock the school .. don't worry okay .." PAPI said sipping his coffee 

Mom placed a plate of pancakes infront of me. I wasted no time in eating them .

After breakfast ,they drove me to school. 

"Baby... remember."

"Try and control my temper..I will mom.." I cut her off

"Great..." 

"But don't let them walk all over you kiddo.." PAPI adviced 

"They won't even if they try .." 

" That's my girl . Here we are ," he said packing the car .

The school was marvelous..never I my life had I thought I would ever go to the school of rich people. 

"It's beautiful" 

"I am going to miss you baby ..." Mom said opening the door . I opened my door and got out . She came running towards me and hugged me 

" I will miss you too mom.." 

"I thought I would man up but damn... your mother is right ...we are going to miss you ." PAPI said 

"Come on guys..you are making it even more harder " 

" You know what ...we are taking you to the principal's office."

Mom said 

"But mom..." 

"I agree with your mother , let's go " PAPI agreed

As we walked passed students , they were giving us weird looks . I should have been abashed but I was proud that they didn't want to be away from me . 

We went straight to the principal's office not minding the looks from students. They were crazy and my crazy folks.

The day went smoothly ,I was expecting for rich kids  to bully me but no one even dared. After school I waited at the gates for my parents but they never arrived. I wondered what was holding them up since I knew they wouldn't miss it for world to pick me up .

I began to walk at the direction we came. After a long walk,I was exhausted but I had finally came in view with our house . What I saw made me froze for a mom. Our house was on fire and two men stood there laughing

I sprinted To our house passed the man that had his shirt open showing his chest. I was able to see that he had a huge tattoo of an eye ball among other tattoos.

I ran straight into the house ,there was smoke everywhere. 

" MOM.... PAPI...WHERE ARE YOU ?" I shouted and coughed ..

I ran passed the living room only to reverse back ..

My heart dropped at the sight in front of me . Mom laid on the floor in a pool of blood naked while PAPI was tied to a chair with a knife through his chest .

" NOOOOOO... PAPI ...MOM... PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME ...NO NO NO NO....." I yelled and ran and got on my knees next to mom and shook her to wake up 

" MOM ...MOM.... PLEASE WAKE UP...I CAN'T BE ON MY OWN ... PLEASE MOM..PAPI ..PA..PA...PAPI... TAKE ME WITH YOU..." I cried out loud and cough because the fire was getting wild 

" Baby ........ run........" A low voice said 

" MOM...MOM... PLEASE WAKE UP.. PLEASE DONT LEAVE ME " I cried hugging her bloody body

"Survive....go....g..oooo" those were her last words to me before dying right in my hands. 

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MOM....PAPI ....WHY ...WHY ...WHY CANT I BE HAPPY ...? " I Cried out in pain.i coughed and looked around .the was smoke and fire everywhere. 

"I will always love you mom and dad...." I whispered and got up.

I took Papi's necklace and mom's bracelet.i ran out of the house just in time because the fire was almost blocking the way.

I threw myself on the grass on the front yard and cried. I curled into a ball  ,hugging their properties close to my chest .

I was alone all over again.For the first time I have received love ,it was snatched away from me.

I cried out 

"MOM......"

"...PAPI ...." 

"COME ... COME BACK...I NEED YOU ..." My heart was heavy. everything was hurting ...

I got up and watched as the place I called a home burn down along with my loved ones . I didn't even have anywhere else to go .

I heard sirens , I walked out of our compound and stood further from the scene. The firefighters tried to put out the fire. 

I hugged the necklace and bracelet close to my heart and started walking away

"I love you guys" I kissed them and  cried. My heart was bleeding. I swore never to forget the man that snatched my happiness and burnt it into dust.i walked to the only place I knew as home aside from the one that was turned to ashes....the orphanage
