Emily woke up. Glancing around. Her gaze rested on a metal IV stand with saline bags, and a woman in white trying to connect it to her arm.
“Where am I?” Emily frowned.
“Oh good, you are awake.” the woman smiled at Emily.
“. leave us," a dark masculine voice said .
Emily turned towards the voice. He had a hard and handsome face. The nurse turned to leave, but Emily instinctively held the lady's hand.
“Don’t worry, you are in good hands,” the lady encouraged her. as she pried her hands from Emily and stepped out.
Emily’s face turned white. She tried sitting up and felt pain shooting up her stomach.
“Relax, if I wanted to do something vile. I would have done it the night I saved you. But I guess you don’t remember.”
“Are you the one that helped me?” Emily said in a shaky voice.
He looked at her intently before he answered. “You are lucky I stopped the car. Because I actually thought it was a ploy to rob me. People hardly venture that road at night.”
She nodded her head and looked away. “I guess I should say thank you. "
“Do you know the perpetrator?” he asked.
“Someone I trusted with my life.” She scoffed.
“Then you have to do better with who you trust.” He replied.
She glared at him.
“Do you want to report to the police?”
“No, I will only be cutting the tail of the snake.” Emily said.
He nodded in agreement.
“To whom do I owe my gratitude to?” Emily said.
He stood up. Stretching out his hand."Logan… Logan Miller.”
“I am Emily, by the way.” Emily said, taking the hand Logan offered.
“I know. I took the liberty to investigate you. "
“What!”
“I wanted to know who I rescued. Plus, there was no ID on you.”
“So I take it, you know my family.”
“Yes. Thanks to your stint with the police for driving under the influence. It was easy.” Logan placed his hands in his pocket.
“I didn’t do it, but no one would believe me. It was my sister…”
She wondered why she was trying to convince this stranger as if he cared.
“Its start with taking responsibility,”
“You don't believe me either. No ever does.” she laughed bitterly, shaking her head.
“The evidence is there,” Logan shrugged.
“For you to have the resources to investigate, you are no ordinary person. Are you, by chance, related to the owner of Miller’s airline?”
“Miller is a common surname,” he said
What a clever way to dodge the question, but he was right. It's common, she thought.
“What do you want? I know you didn’t go to this length just because you are a good samaritan. I learnt the hard way.”
“I have a proposition for you. I want your shares in the Henderson hotel.”
“But I don’t have any shares.”
“Not yet but you will when you get married according to what was stipulated in your grandfather's will.”
“I can see someone has done his homework…. Wait, are you asking me to marry you? "
“What if I am?” Logan replied
“Then I will have you know there is another clause of me turning thirty, which is three years from now,”
“What if I can help you come into it sooner?”
“You mean to go this far. Just to get your hand on some shares,” Emily looked at him, dumbfounded.
“why not?” Logan asked.
“I am sure my family would reward you richly for your kindness. But as far as that, I can’t help you.”
“You have been out of it for days. What makes you think that your family, who hasn’t reported you missing for days, would reward me richly?” Logan said through clenched teeth.
“How many days exactly?” Emily asked, massaging her temple.
“For three days now,”
“You mean no one asked for me?” Emily asked in a disbelieving voice.
“What do you think?” he said, staring at her.
she didn’t know who to trust at this point. She stood up and ripped the drip out of her hand. She didn’t care that she was in pain.
“Whoa! be careful.” He said, trying to stop her.
“I am getting out of here. And you can’t stop me,” Emily screamed.
“Okay, let’s get the nurse and we can go.” he waited for her to nod in agreement before he left the room.

Logan stops her in front of the apartment complex she pointed at. When she attempted to step out of the car, he stopped her.
“Here, have my card.” He said.
“why? I won’t need it.”
“Just in case you change your mind,” Logan insistedEmily looked at it for a while before snatching it from his hand and stepped out.
“And call me if you need help.” Logan yelled out the window. She rolled her eyes and walked straight into the building.
“Why are you obsessed with getting your hands on the Henderson hotel shares?” she mused as she studied the business card he gave her. “Hmm… CEO of a tech company.”The elevator door opened at the floor her boyfriend's apartment was in. She tucked it into the pocket of her jeans.
“I guess I need to thank him for the outfit.” She muttered as she punched in the code. She knew Ryan would be mad at her because she came to his apartment unannounced. But this was the only place she felt safe for now until she could figure out which one of her family wanted her dead. A strange noise coming from the bedroom caught her attention.
“Ryan?” Emily called out, walking tentatively toward the bedroom door. She pushed the door slightly. She froze, shaking her head in denial. The noises she heard became obvious. It was a man and a woman in the tryst of passion. The man being her boyfriend, Ryan.
“Ryan! What the hell are you doing?” Emily screamed, taking a step back.Ryan jumped off the bed, sweat glistening off his skin as he stared at her. The lady in bed with him covered her face.“What are you doing here? I told you to inform me whenever you are coming over to my place,” Ryan said, breathing hard.“Is that what you are concerned about, and who is the whore you are with?” She walked up to the bed and ripped the blanket off, and her eyes widened in shock. “Kayla…”Ryan ran his hand through his hair. The fact he was avoiding her gaze made it harder to deny what she was witnessing.“I wanted to tell you, Emily,” he said“How long has this been going on?” Emily asked.“We have been dating close to a year.” Ryan said.“Is a joke right?” She let out a humorless laugh. "I mean, none of this is real." “You weren’t meant to be here.” Kayla said. Drawing herself up to full height and thrusting her chin.“You have always been full of shit,” she said glaring at Kayla.“You are overre
Logan was in his study looking over some documents. When a knock at the door interrupted him.“Yes,” Logan beckoned.“Miss Emily Henderson is here to see you, sir.” Logan’s housekeeper said.“Let her in,” Logan said.Logan anticipated this meeting with Emily. When she called, he knew he had her where he wanted. But in his experience, he had to account for when things do not go as planned. When Emily was guided in. He noticed she was pale. Logan stood up and gestured towards the only couch in the study.“Miss Emily, have a seat. Looks like you would fall down at any moment. Do you want anything juice…water,”“No, I am fine,” Emily replied “To what do I owe this pleasure?” He asked, as they both sat down.“Don‘t act as if you don’t know why I am here,” she scoffed“I am not as self-absorbed as you think.” Logan tilted head to the side.“Why do you want my shares?” Emily asked, pressing her palms together firmly.“It is a promising company. Coupled with the fact that there would soon be
Emily bites her lips. She could feel her heart pounding against her ribcage. She stared at the big rock on her finger, still in disbelief that she married this man seated beside her in the car, a week ago. The car stopped at the venue. “It’s time to let the world know you are married to me,” Logan said, stepping out of the car. He offered his hand to her. She hesitated before taking his hand, knowing if she did this, there was no backing out.“Smile. You don’t want people to think I forced you against your will,” he whispered as they stood on the red carpet. The flash light went off as the paparazzi took pictures of them.“How can I, when this dress is killing me.” She sighed with a pinched expression.“Nobody can wear this dress better than you,” Logan whispered into her ear.Emily's muscles tensed. She opened her mouth to say something nasty to him but thought better of it.They were announced and directed to where Emily’s family was all seated with the Miller’s. Emily walked up t
Emily stared intently at Logan as he tapped his screen. Lost in the conversation he was having, with whoever he was texting, with a goofy smile on his face. While, when he spoke to her, he always had a fierce look on his face.“Why didn’t you come clean when I asked you, if you were related to the miller’s?” Emily blurted out as she crossed her arms.“I felt It was irrelevant since that family abandoned me and my mother.” Logan shrugged half-heartedly without taking his eyes off his phone.Emily looked away, trying to get hold of the anger stirring through her body.
11 years ago at Mason high school cafeteria.“Has anyone asked you out for prom?” Emily asked Jennifer.“Not yet… there is no need for you to worry about that. I know Noah would ask you out."“What do you mean? We are just friends.” Emily leaned over and whispered, “Besides, I want Jason.”“Jason? The one every girl in school is swooning over,” Jennifer raised her eyebrow.“Yes.”“You are joking, rig
Emily turned around to see Logan’s face livid with anger“To think, I was worried, but you are resourceful.” Logan gripped Emily’s hand. “Say goodbye to him. We are leaving.”Noah stood up, ready to defend Emily.“Do you know him?” Noah asked, his gaze bounced between them.Emily looked defiantly at Logan. The urge to deny him at the tip of her tongue.“Think carefully of what you are about to say,” Logan warned her.
Once Emily stepped into the living room of Logan's mansion, she began removing the earrings Logan had given her for the night, a fierce scowl of determination etched on her face. She handed it to him. As it was the first thing she could think of.“What is this?” Logan asked through clenched teeth, an annoyed expression briefly crossed his face.“I think they have served their purpose for tonight. You have made a statement with your wealth.”“What are you trying to prove Emily” Logan said, in a dangerous voice.
“This is utter nonsense. Is this what people are interested in these days? Reading about people’s love life.” Mr. Henderson, Emily's father, said, as he dropped his phone back on the table.“Calm down. Think about your health,” Mrs. Henderson, Emily's mother, replied.“How can I be calm when she has done something that can affect the success of the company? We don’t know who this man is or where is from,”“That’s not entirely true. We know he is Miller’s illegitimate son. "
