CHAPTER FOUR

Logan was in his study looking over some documents. When a knock at the door interrupted him.

“Yes,” Logan beckoned.

“Miss Emily Henderson is here to see you, sir.” Logan’s housekeeper said.

“Let her in,” Logan said.

Logan anticipated this meeting with Emily. When she called, he knew he had her where he wanted. But in his experience, he had to account for when things do not go as planned.

When Emily was guided in. He noticed she was pale. Logan stood up and gestured towards the only couch in the study.

“Miss Emily, have a seat. Looks like you would fall down at any moment. Do you want anything juice…water,”

“No, I am fine,” Emily replied

“To what do I owe this pleasure?” He asked, as they both sat down.

“Don‘t act as if you don’t know why I am here,” she scoffed

“I am not as self-absorbed as you think.” Logan tilted head to the side.

“Why do you want my shares?” Emily asked, pressing her palms together firmly.

“It is a promising company. Coupled with the fact that there would soon be a merger between Henderson hotel and miller airline,” he leaned back slowly, crossing his legs.

“Is that all?” Emily crossed her arms and stared intently at him.

“It is purely business to me.”

“I can’t put my finger on it. I feel you are not telling me everything. "

“You either trust me or you don’t.”

“Unfortunately, that’s what I am low on.”

“It’s understandable. Considering what you have been through.” Logan shrugged.

Biting the inside of her cheek. Emily's stomach tensed. She didn’t want to think about what she’s been through. So she quickly changed the topic.

“You know what must be done to have access to those shares?”

“I was in my right senses when I proposed marriage to you.”

“You know there are people who want me dead.”

“Yes, I am aware.”

“Getting married to me might upset many, especially my father. He is in charge of my share,” Emily said, hugging herself.

“Are you trying to dissuade me?” He chuckled, leaning forward, his breath fanning her cheek. “I appreciate your concern. But I am fully aware of what I am getting into. One does not get into business without ruffling some feathers.”

“I have my conditions. I won’t sell my share to you, but I will give you voting power. In exchange, I want you to find who wants me dead.” Emily's heart skipped a beat.

“Fair enough. I expected no less.”

“And there would be no sex involved between you and me in this arrangement,” Emily said sternly, her gaze challenging him “This is strictly business”

“If you think I would let you fool around with another man …think again,” Logan growled.

“Okay. Then we can’t see other people. The moment we do, this arrangement is over.”

“We must make the world believe we are in a genuine relationship. I hope you will put on your best act in public.”

Emily nodded, but quickly added. “And we would stay in separate bedroom,”

“Fine, I would have my lawyer draw up a contract.” Logan walked up to her and held her chin. “Let’s seal it with a kiss. "

Logan brushed his fingers against her lips. Emily’s heart  pounding against her chest. As she anticipated, his lips on hers. He leaned in. Claiming her lips in a passionate kiss that took her breath away. She felt weak to her knees. His sweet, warm breath lingered just above her lips.

Emily seemed shaken by the kiss.

“Be prepared. The Henderson foundation is a perfect place to announce our marriage, don’t you think?” Logan turned away as he expelled his breath in a slow, steady hiss.

This was enough to dispel anything Emily felt.

“My secretary will bring in the best designer for your wedding gown and you don’t need to worry about jewelry. A special marriage license would be arranged and we would be wedded in a day or two,” he said as he poured himself a cognac.

“Do as you wish…”

She wanted to leave, but remembered that she didn’t have a place to stay.

“Can I please stay here? I have no place to go?”

“You seemed eager to start your role as my wife. Ask Heather, my housekeeper, she would fix a room for you. "

“Thank you.”

When she left the room. Logan took a deep breath. Trying to take his mind off the lewd thought he had of Emily. Even though he acted as if he wasn’t affected by that kiss, the bulge in his trouser says otherwise.

“Let’s see who would cave into desire first.” He said in a low-pitched voice.
