Mary was wary of her environment as she sat in the bus on her way home, she did not want a repetition of the event that had happened earlier in the day. She could not help but wonder why and how Adonis was in contact with her Mr Coleman. She tried not to over think it, they were probably already close before now. Mary almost jumped out of her skin when someone tapped her on the shoulder from behind. She turned back amidst fast heartbeats to see who it was. It was a young girl of about twelve. She looked at Mary with sharp almost teary eyes. “I’m really sorry for bothering you mam, you just share a striking resemblance with someone I know, I almost thought you were her”“Oh! I see” Mary nodded slowly, a bit relieved, and also feeling a bit sorry for the little girl but had no time to show compassion since her mind was already in shambles. When Mary finally got to her bus stop, she alighted from the bus but was surprised to see the young girl come down too and was walking behind
They kept staring at her with questioning looks making her even more alarmed and suspicious. She wondered if they had found her out. She started racking her brain on how to explain to them the mess she had gotten herself into. “You seemed to be lost in your sleep” Clay said with an amused look on his face. “What?” Mary asked looking around confused. “Do you know now long we have been standing here? We almost thought you had gone into a coma” her mum said. “Or even dead” her brother chipped in. “Alright everybody, let’s go out for prayers” her dad said before taking the lead. All through the prayers, Mary sat staring into space, too carried away in her thoughts to know anything that was going on. Much to her delight the prayer was a short one and ended quickly. Mary carefully went back to her room to start getting her things ready, she would be going back to Adonis Scott later in the day. She noticed the bangle on her hand, she felt like taking it off then changed her
Mary felt panic wash over her as she read the content written in bold in on the paper that she almost dropped it. But she tried to control her reaction in order not to scare the young lad in front of her. “What is it aunt?” He asked tapping her knee gently. “Is it something bad?” “Ehhmm…. Not really Aiden” she tried to remain calm. “It’s just something meaningless that you should not be bothered about”. “But it looks like something bad, from your reaction”. “Let’s just go inside okay?” Back in her room, Mary paced around holding the paper and reading it over and over again. She was petrified to the marrow. “Stop what you are doing at once or you face the consequences”. That was obviously a threat, and there could be only one person who would have sent her such threat, Adonis. He must have found out that she knew about him and was trying to expose him and now her life could be in danger for real, just like she had seen In her dream. “But Adonis does not know her house” she
Clay thought that must have been a case of mistaken Identity. “Are you sure it was you they had asked him to give the note and not me?”. Mary nodded, getting a bit confused. She was very certain that the note was meant for her, after all she was the one who was planning to expose Adonis hidden secret. “Do you have any enemies? I mean, did you have a fight with anyone that would want to hurt you?” Mary shook her head, it was not a complete lie anyways, after all she did have any enemies anyways, and she did not have any fight with anybody either. “You know what Mary? You would try to stay back at home for a while, until we figure out what to do” his voice sounded shacky. Mary had a feeling that her brother was hiding something since he was acting so suspicious, but she had no idea what it was. She wondered what it could be that he was hiding from her. He made to go inside then he came back again. “And please, we have to keep this from mum and dad, we do not want to have them
Mary and Clay stared at each other for some time, not having an idea how to answer the question. “What note is Aiden talking about that could have put the both of you in such gloomy mood?” Mr Wilberforce asked again. “It’s nothing really dad” Clay chipped in. “You must not listen to Aiden he is just saying gibberish”. “But dad there was a man and Aunt Mary….” “So it looks like you brought us something from your ice cream date”. Mary said gesturing to the bag Mrs Wilberforce had in her hand. “Of course, we decided to get something for the people who did not go on a date with use”. “That’s so thoughtful of you then” Clay laughed. “Why don’t we all go inside and dig in?” “Good idea” Aiden screamed. They all walked inside, with Mary and her brother trailing behind and exchanging worried looks. “So it’s safe for me to say that this is my highlight of this visit” Mary announced as they sat round the table over several snacks and cups of ice cream. “I think I can sa
Mary paused at the door, her beating severely to the point that it almost became painful. She did not know if to concentrate on the deep blue eyes that was now piercing through her with it’s gaze, holding her hostage that she could not even look away, or if she should concentrate on her heart which seemed to plan to rebel against her entire body. It seemed to be working independently, on it’s own accord. Neither did she know if she should concentrate on her fears, her fears that seemed to be growing with every passing second. There he was, the supposed dangerous murderer, dangerous but ruthlessly handsome as well. His beautiful looks made her find it difficult to connect him to the supposed murder. With the way he stared at her, the first thought that registered in her head was to turn around and run away, far away from him and back home into her mother’s arms where she would be save from any danger. But she could not move, his eyes seemed to have glued her to the spot she stood
“Would you help me dry my hair?” He asked, his voice deeper than she could ever imagine. Only then did she notice the water dripping from his hair. “Why do you always forget to dry your hair after taking a shower?” She asked staring into his deep blue eyes. “Because of you”. “Huh!” “Because I know you would surely help me dry it” he smirked. “I do not think I even have to try to convince you to do it for me so I? After all you already offered by yourself to help me dry my hair always” he said suddenly pulling away from her, he rested on the chair and folded his arms across his chest. Mary seemed perplexed by his actions, she sat there quietly, not saying anything. “So are you going to help me?” He asked suddenly leaning towards her again. She tried to say something, but then she closed her mouth again. Her beat increased again. “What do you say?” He asked again jolting her from her thoughts. “Oh… Okay” she stammered. “I would just go get the dryer” she stood up q
Mary stood up and ran into the bathroom because if she had stayed, she would have given into the most lustful desires of the innermost part of her heart. And she did not want that, not with someone like Adonis. A cold blooded murderer who would not hesitate to kill her if he sees the need. Mary wrapped her arms around her body and sat on the toilet seat, trying to calm her fast breaths, and to quench the fire that had been ignites inside of her by Adonis kisses and touches. She stayed there for a few minutes, expecting to hear him knock on the door. She was already cooking up excuses to give when he does, but he did not. By the time she summoned courage and left the bathroom he was gone although his scent still hovered around her room, it was almost like he was still there. She could still feel the tingling feeling on her skin where he had touched her, she still felt hot from the assault his merciless fingers had meted out on her innocent body. Mary sat on the bed, her hand protect
