Briana
I decided it was time to lay down my cards and let Noah know about any misgivings I had in this setup.
He wanted to prove himself not as a father to his children but as a partner to me. He wanted us to try again.
But that would be asking me for a lot. If I agreed to his request, that would mean shedding my armor and making myself vulnerable.
It took me five years to slowly build up my armor, and now Noah is asking me to throw it away.
“Your proposal was admirable. But we were only wasting our time if I can't trust you. Let's cut ourselves some slack. Let's stop this now and find something workable for us and the children. I am sure when they grow older, they will understand."
Briana POV“You okay, Daddy?” I heard Riley ask Noah the moment we got back to our table. My eldest is becoming a daddy’s boy. I envied Noah. It did not take him long to get the triplets’ affection.Despite the four-year absence, I could see that the triplets already loved their father and depended on him.In fairness to Noah, I could also see how he loves the triplets. He was ready to drop everything for the children. He was also ready to make our relationship work for them.“He said he loves me.” I sent my best friend Hanna a text.I noticed she had been silent lately and realized I had been too preoccupied with so many things that I had forgotten about her.So, when I got the chance, I tried calling her. I assumed she was busy since she was not answering my call. After waiting for her response, I suddenly remembered it was her birthday today.“Noah, I reserved a room for the children for their nap. You can sleep with them."Noah met my statement with a frown."What about you?""Ca
Hanna POVI was out in a meeting when my secretary called me.As head of the marketing department, I sometimes go outside to meet potential clients or people from the print and broadcast industry for adverts. My secretary called to tell me someone was waiting for me at the office.Since the meeting was just inside the hotel - in one of our restaurants, I marched back to my room right after concluding the meeting.I was all smiles. The client wanted to book the hotel for their company conference. It was a huge company comprising two hundred employees.I started planning in my head and got so busy, so it came as a surprise to me when I got to my office and found my best friend waiting for me.“Briana!”She is holding a cake with a small lighted candle in the middle, singing a happy birthday song.Other employees joined in the singing. My eyes misted. My mother had forgotten it was my birthday - even my sister. Dad is dead, so there was not much to expect. But the two living relatives fo
Hanna POVAfter a while, Briana got a phone call and looked apologetically at me before taking the call.“It’s Noah. He said the kids were awake and were looking for me.” She shared after she ended the call.I rose from the chair.Seeing what I did, Briana rose from her seat, too.“Oh, I forgot to give you this.” She rummaged through her bag to pull out a jewelry box. My eyes widened in alarm.“Briana, you don’t have to,” I told her when she handed me the box.She grinned. “It was a present from Woodside. I have been meaning to give that to you. I always forget. I figured now’s as good a time as any.”I opened the box and smiled. It was a gold bracelet with a rose design in the middle. “It’s beautiful!” I exclaimed.Briana smiled. “I am glad you like it. I chose the rose design because the yellow rose symbolizes friendship and loyalty.” I bit my lip. “Briana, I…”I hesitated. Should I tell her about my relationship with Britney?Briana misinterpreted my reaction.“It’s alright.
Briana POV“What are you talking about?” Hanna sputtered like the idea was cringy. Her body shook, telling me that she found the idea repulsive.Yet I could feel something in her response. It was exaggerated; meaning, she was trying to shake the idea off my head. She also looked flustered, which tells me she’s not telling the entire truth.“Nothing," I replied and saw her visibly relaxed. But the idea of having Hanna as a sister-in-law appealed to me. So I persisted. Who knows..."You can tell me if you like my brother. I can set you up on a date with Rowan, or if you like Flint…” My voice trailed off when she rejected my offer vehemently.Hanna shook her head, a mocking smile lacing her lips.“No. I’m fine.”“Okay. But if you change your mind, you know you can always come up to me.” I told her.Hanna glared at me, telling me to stop, and I only laughed her reaction off.“Positive. Dating is far from my mind at the moment. I just got promoted. I need to show the company and my boss t
Briana POV“Where have you been? I was frantic with worry.” Noah greeted me after finally showing up at home.It was past the children’s bedtime.Noah leaned close and sniffed my hair.“You smelled cigarettes and alcohol. Where did you go?” Suspicion laced his voice.“I was just at the hotel.”Noah frowned. “Yet you did not bother to call me back or tell me? I had been calling you countless times, Briana.”I walked past him. I am not in the mood to face his scrutiny and interrogation. All I want is to lie in bed and rest.I feel so tired.Noah clamped on my arm and tugged. “Hey. What’s wrong? Do you have a problem? I thought we would try to make our relationship work. Why are you suddenly growing cold on me?”The gentleness in his tone was a mockery to me.When I remembered what Britney told me, my heart was being squeezed painfully in my chest.I squeezed my eyes shut.“I am sorry. I don’t think I can do this.” I told him frankly when our eyes met.“Why? Tell me your reasons so I
Briana POVWhen I woke up the following morning, I did not find the children in their room.Their nannies said that they were in the kitchen.I padded the floor on bare feet to join them.Since I got in late last night, Noah tucked them in.Breakfast and dinners were a sacred time for our family. When I entered the kitchen, the first person I saw was Noah. He was busy flipping burgers while the children waited at the island counter. They occupied a long stool each. Riley propped his elbows on the counter while Brixx spun his stool left and right. On the other hand, Mason was lyi
Noah POVI am losing her.I thought showing her my love - giving her time and effort would make her come back to me.But right now, I am feeling that she is slowly slipping away. And it breaks my heart in two.She left the kitchen, and I followed upstairs. She went straight to her room while I said goodbye to my kids. The children were enrolled in the best school in Redwood and will start school in a week.“Daddy! Let’s paint!” Mason called me when he spotted me standing by the doorway. He was sitting on a small artist's chair. The mini easel on his front hangs a small canvas.I watched while he wielded colors on the canvas and could say we have a fine artist in the making. He wields his brush like an expert, creating a dramatic fusion of colors. As a connoisseur, I could tell my son had talent.“Wow, son! This is great!”“Mason studied art back in Woodside. He had a solo exhibition last year. This year, the Ford Empire will sponsor another exhibition for him.” It was Marcus.I did n
Noah POVI saw her stumped. But when she recovered, tears pooled in her eyes.“But what is love without trust?” She countered.“How can I love you without trusting you?” She added when I did not respond. At the same time, the light turned green, and I had to start
Charles POVThe next day, our other two babies were born one after the other.Jenna and I were also there to witness everything and become part of our children’s birth.Jenna’s eyes were puffy when she held our two other newborns in her arms. She had been crying nonstop since yesterday because it still had not sunk in that she was a mom of four babies. When we visited Briana, she and Jenna had a long talk.Briana was smiling, but I could see that she was at a loss when it was time to take the baby away from her.I realized that this ordeal put a lot of strain on
Charles POVThe phone in the delivery room rang, and a nurse went to answer it.“Dr. Martin, it’s delivery room 2.” She said from across the room, allowing us to hear.Dr. Martin went to answer it. Her face was serious when she placed the phone back in its cradle. Then, she turned her head back to her medical team.“Are you still up for another delivery?” She asked her team.Their high spirits rubbed off on Jenna and me. We were smiling when they shouted, of course.
Charles POVIt was a crazy day.We were having a meeting when I heard that Briana had been rushed to the hospital.“Brie is having our baby,” I told my brothers and friend after I dropped the call.It was Jenna. She, Noah, and Biana were already in the hospital because Briana's water broke. My face contorted as emotions I could not name assailed.A mix of fear, excitement, nervousness, worry, and happiness barraged me.Briana, my baby sister, was going to deliver my and Jenna's baby right now.
Jenna POVThe days quickly passed by.Though we did not talk about it, it seemed as if Charles and I were in tacit agreement to take things slow concerning our careers and concentrate more on each other. We go out of town and do things we had never done before as a couple. It was marvelous.“It’s good that you spend more time with each other because I tell you, once the four babies arrive, you won’t get even a wink of sleep,” Briana told me when I came to her house that afternoon to catch up and to check on her. It’s the baby’s
Jenna POVI turned my head sharply in Beth’s direction to find her busy talking with Brent. They were whispering, and from the blush that tinted her cheeks, I was sure the talk was naughty.“Don’t you want me to be here?” The uncertainty in Charles’ voice got to me.“Of course not!” I denied it, but I could feel my face growing warm because Charles’ eyes were riveted on my packages.I was sure that by just looking at the logo outside the bags, he would know what Beth and I were up to.My guess was not far from the t
Jenna POVWe arrived at our new home much later than expected because I requested the cab driver to drop us off at the nearest florist. After purchasing the flowers I needed, I dragged Beth to the supermarket to buy some scented candles and stuff.“Are you going to sed*ce your husband?” Beth looked confused.I lifted my head from browsing through the label of a scented oil I wanted to purchase to look at her.“What?” I asked since I did not hear her.“If you plan to tempt your husband, you don’t need this.” She told me, looking exasp
Jenna POVAfter Charles left the hospital, I urged Beth to trace our way back inside. We passed the lobby, and I felt weirded out by the looks everyone was giving me. It caused a frown to form on my head. Beth must have noticed my reaction. “Don’t mind them. They just heard about what Gwen did. They all feel sorry for you.” She explained, brushing off the stares I was getting. She even covered her mouth with her hand to stifle a sarcastic laugh. I was surprised not only by the information she shared but also by her reaction. “How?” “Police came here to arrest her. It kind of got messy because Gwen resisted the arrest even when they showed her the warrant. She even tried to run away as if she could escape them. What a d*mmy!” Beth scoffed. It used to confuse me when Beth acted unfriendly toward Gwen. Beth is warm-hearted and is often on good terms with our co-workers, except with Gwen. Now, I know. At first, I did not understand her. Beth admitted that she did not understan
Charles POVAt Jenna’s insistence, I reluctantly left the hospital to go to the office. When I arrived at my office, I was dragging my feet. Whereas before, work had been the boon of my existence.I realized recently that all work and no play made me a very dull person. That’s why it puzzled me why Jenna loved me regardless. “You don’t look too happy reporting for work,” Rowan commented after dragging my feet to my office and finding him, Marcus, and Flint sitting around my conference table. “What are you doing here?” I asked, frowning. “Don’t you have better things to do than loitering around my office?” I asked them when they did not answer my question. My three brothers shrugged their shoulders and simultaneously picked up their coffee mugs to take a sip. My eyes squinted. My brother looked too relaxed for my peace of mind. My eyes narrowed into slits as I pierced them with a glare. Flint immediately rose from his seat to pour my coffee mug and offered it to me. I accepte
Charles POV“Good morning, sir.” The bodyguards posted outside the suite of our surrogates greeted us.“How is everyone?” I asked, stopping to talk to them.Jenna and Beth were still busy in their own world, talking and catching up.Jenna listened in rapt attention as Beth told her about the hardships of first-trimester pregnancy.A smile never left her face, but in my heart, I would always regret that what happened to Jenna denied her the chance to experience pregnancy and motherhood.Still, her talk about forgiveness hit me hard.
