INTO THE VOID.As the gang descended more into the Ruins of Arathor, Kyra led the way, her sharp eyes scouring the old stone hallways. The next section, according to the map Eldon had, was someplace deep within these ruins. The weight of their mission was evident in every stride they took, and the stifling silence was only sometimes broken by the distant rumble of shifting ground. Eldon strolled next to Kyra, holding the map out in front of him. He murmured, "This means we should be getting close to the central chamber." "The fragment is likely protected by more than just the ancient wards."Selene and Marcus trailed close after, readying their weapons. Selene used her magical abilities to sense any hidden threats, and her eyes sparkled softly. "A potent spell awaits you," she forewarned. "We need to proceed with caution." THE CURSED PLAINS.The gang broke free of the gloomy, depressing Forest of Shadows and into the wide-open Cursed Plains, with Kyra leading the way. The smell of rotting flesh permeated the air, and the ground beneath them seemed to tremble at any second. Selene, Marcus, and Eldon trailed close behind, all of them on high alert. Eldon looked at the parchment, scowling, "The map suggests that the next fragment is somewhere in these plains." “But it's not really clear where it is. This region is renowned for its dynamic topography." With a nod, Kyra scanned the horizon. "We must exercise caution. This location is well known for its illusions and traps."Marcus's eyes narrowed as he tightened his grasp on his blade. "And the living dead. Remember the undead." THE HEART OF KAELTHOR. Eldon was in the lead, staring at the large black figure that had stepped out of the shadows. The last fragment's guardian loomed above them, its presence was a force of strong, evil energy. Arms ready, Kyra, Marcus, and Selene stood in front of Eldon, their expressions somber. "We require a strategy," Kyra said, her voice scarcely discernible above the guardian's rumbling snarl. Eldon nodded, his thoughts whirling. "Kyra, you and Marcus confront the protector head-on. Selene, stay back and use your magic to support. I'll concentrate on the spell of containment."Marcus smiled, the blade shining in the little light. "Just like old times, eh?" Kyra gave a strained smile. "Just like old times." The guardian let out a howl that rocked the chamber to its core. It sprang forward, its enormous fists slamming into the spot Eldon had just been standing on. Marcus and Kyra assaulted the beast from both flanks, darting to either side as their guns flashed. THE FINAL DEFENSE.Eldon took center stage, his dark sorcerer's eyes narrowing as he came out of the shadows. His companions surrounded him in a close circle, their expressions determined and somber. The ultimate fight loomed before them, and the air hummed with tension. With her sword drawn and shining in the dim valley light, Kyra made her move. "We’ve come too far to lose now." With a nod, Marcus raised his shield. "We end this today." With her palms already glowing with magical energy, Selene took a step forward. "Eldon, what’s the plan?"Eldon inhaled deeply, his thoughts whirling. We must divide up our work. Marcus and Kyra, take the initiative and confront the sorcerer head-on. “You and I shall concentrate on thwarting his sorcery, Selene. We may have a shot if we can get past his defenses." THE GROWING DANGER. Kyra stood watching the horizon from the edge of the trees. Long shadows were created by the rising sun, and bird chattering filled the air. Even still, she was unable to get rid of the feeling of dread she was experiencing. Her thoughts were haunted by Xander's admonition from the day before, a sobering reminder that their quest was far from complete. Eldon stepped forward, worry written all over his face. "Kyra, we must get moving. This woodland is not far from the village. Before deciding on our next course of action, we should acquire supplies and information."
