Chapter 11: Dead toad
"Ava!" Mr Smith yelled angrily. "Watch your tongue. How dare you talk to your mother in that manner." He yelled angrily."Stop barking like a dog, please. I am right here before you. And did you just call her my mother?" She asked and suddenly erupted into laughter. She laughed so hard that tears started coming out from the corners of her eyes. She walked into the room further with the bodyguards following behind her. She took her seat on the couch and crossed her legs. She had a proud smile on her face.
"How can you call her my mother? Everyone here knows that I am an orphan and I don't have a mother. You are not the one that adopted me. The person who adopted me is Grandmother Smith, and she's gone now. Have any of you ever considered me as your family? I also do not consider you a family. Since childhood, I have been the one taking care of myself. Have you ever thought of treating me well? The answer is NO. You don't consider my feelings at all. You only care about yourself and your family. I have different kinds of part-time jobs. You have never for once asked me how my day went. All you do is hit me and make me do the house chores while your daughter is the princess of the house. You have never for once spent a single dollar on me. I am the one who sent myself to school. I cater for myself and feed myself. I hardly eat in this house. The only thing you have ever done for me is let me stay in this house. Though you made me sleep in the maids' room, I'm a little grateful. And I don't think I owe you anything because you make me pay for staying here. I do the house chores and I even served as your punching bag. You have the money, but you just hate me so much. I dropped out of school when I couldn't afford my school fees anymore. You barely asked why I dropped out of school. You are just too selfish. The only person who has a good heart in your family is Grandmother Smith. And she's gone now. The rest of you are just shameless, disgusting, selfish people." She spat out coldly. Her chest heaved up and down, showing how angry she was. "Hey, what has gotten to you, Ava? What the heck is wrong with you? How can you talk to them like that? Is it because we have now broken up? Are you so sad that we are no longer together that you have now started to misbehave? And who are those men behind you?" Henry questioned. Ava suddenly erupted into laughter. She laughed so hard till her cheek started to hurt, and her stomach ached terribly. This seems to be the biggest joke she has ever heard so far. She soon stopped laughing and directed her gaze at Henry "Hey, what do you take me for? Who do you think you are? Why would I be sad that I broke up with a scum like you? You think too highly of yourself. You have overestimated yourself, and I'm so happy to disappoint you. You are nothing to me. I'm not even sad in the slightest way that I broke up with you. I'm relieved instead, and my heart seems to be at ease. If I had known breaking up with you would give me this kind of amusement, I would have done so a long time ago. You and Lily are made for each other. Match made in heaven. You make a perfect couple. And you asked who those men were. You can ask your father that." She said with a mocking smile on her lips. She said that intentionally to piss Henry off and, fortunately, her plan seemed to work. "How dare you bitch?" Henry yelled angrily. His face twisted in anger, and he rushed to Ava. Ready to attack her. But before his hand could touch her. Greg grabbed his hand and twisted it backwards. A cracking sound could be heard signaling everyone that Henry's arm was broken. Henry cried out in pain and struggled to break free from Greg. But the more he struggled, the more Greg applied more pressure on his arm. He suddenly kicked Henry in the stomach and this got him to fly away. He landed right on the floor, lying there like a dead toad. The sight alone got Ava rolling on the ground. She laughed so hard. She suddenly took out her phone and took a picture of Henry. "Wow, that looks so great. It will be my pleasure to post this online. The heir of the Bale family got beaten up and looked like a dead toad." She said and laughed out loud again. "You bitch." Henry groaned and wanted to stand up. But he fell again and spat out a mouthful of blood. The smile on Ava grew even more when she saw fear in everyone's faces. She looks like a villain right now who enjoys watching people in pain. Lily clenched her fist tightly. She tried to hold back her anger. How dare this useless orphan come to bully them in their house? The silence was killing her, and she couldn't hold it back anymore. "Ava. What do you think you are doing? How can you bring some thugs here to beat up Henry? You even went as far as insulting our parents. I'm very disappointed in you. How can you do that?" She said and ran to Henry's side. "Hey bitch. " Ava said and rose to her feet "You love playing the role of Cinderella. Are you not tired of it already? You are as scheming as your mother. You always pretend to be a white lotus, meanwhile, you are a green snake hiding under the green grass. Watch your tongue "Chapter 110: What Have You Done?Damien stirred from his sleep. He hated the nightmares that were befalling him that night. Images of Ava reaching out and begging him for help danced through his mind. The images filling his head were so unsettling that he rose with a start and glanced at the other side of the bed. It was empty and it caused his heart to jump in panic. “Ava?” He called out into the dim room, hoping she was in the bathroom. There was no response and this officially got him worried. “Ava, where are you?” He called out as he stood up from his bed and walked around the room, glancing around for any sign of his room. He was about to walk into the bathroom when he noticed that the bedroom door wasn’t properly locked. Taking a deep breath, he walked out of the room and immediately heard the sound of struggling and gulping. Instinctively, he headed to the balcony where the hot tub was located and the sight that greeted him caused bile to form in his mouth and his stomach to
Chapter 109: I Will Take Care Of Everything “Thank you so much for defending me against Regina. I wasn’t in the mood for a fight and was thinking of the best way possible to get away from her.” She thanked him as their vehicle sped along the highway. “Hey, it is nothing. You are my wife, and I ought to protect you at all costs. It was too bad that she tried to hurt you. If you want, I can get her arrested. It would be nice to teach her some lesson so she doesn’t try this ever again.” He said. Butterflies fluttered in her stomach at his words. She would never have believed that a day would come when he would defend her so greatly, like today. “So, what made you leave Dr. Xavier’s office? Did she call you out or something?” He asked as he maneuvered the car through a bend. “No. I intended to gift the good doctor something. If it wasn't for him, you and would most likely not be together anymore. I am so grateful to him and just thought I should get him something. Unfortunately, I le
Chapter 108: What’s Going On Here?Ava glanced around the whole space, thinking of how best to avoid Regina and the trouble she was promising. If she wasn’t in a haste to get back to Damien and Dr. Xavier, she would have taken the time to be trashy to the woman in front of her. “You look so scared like you want to run away. Well, you know what? It is best you run away because what I intend to do to you is terrible.” Regina hissed and menacingly towered over Ava. “Regina, I wish we could roll on the floor and drag our hair at each other, but I do not have the time for that. I have to go. I will see you some other time.” She answered and tried to make a beeline for the elevator, but Regina’s gait and agility were faster than her reflexes. Regina threw her to the floor in one fast move. Ava felt her head spin as pain exploded in her head. She was momentarily dizzy, and the pain traveled down her body, causing her to ache. Gosh, she had been trying to avoid trouble, and yet it came to
Chapter 107: Just My ManAva watched what used to be her family walk out of the office. They were all smiles even after agreeing to Damien's condition in a heartbeat. “What is wrong? You look like you have seen a ghost.” He asked her as he grabbed her into his arms. She settled into his warm body and laid her head on his chest. His heartbeat was steady and strong, promising her that everything was going to be okay. She desperately wanted to believe that, but not with the amount of money he had just thrown out to her family. When he had said that he had a condition for her family before giving them the money, she had thought it was something serious, only for him to demand that the Smiths make a minimum of 50 percent return on the amount he was going to give them. Her family had readily taken it and signed a contract, confident that they were going to get their business up and running in optimal capacity with the sum he had given them. "I may have not seen a ghost, but I just watc
Chapter 106: ShamelessDamien glanced at the Smith family and took in a few breaths to center himself. He didn't want to do anything crazy, especially not with Ava around. He wanted to protect her, including from himself. “Despite all the good you have done for my wife, which we are both grateful for, I don’t think I can help. You see, I just recovered from a coma and my business is yet to pick up. Hopefully, some other time, I would be able to help.” He said with a forced smile. Ava let out a breath certain that this should be enough to dissuade her family from asking him for money, but she was wrong. They all stared at each other and chuckled lightly. “Mr. Silver, you seem to forget who you are. You are not just the richest billionaire in New York, you are the richest in the world. No matter how bad your business goes, you would definitely have a heavy sum to help us with.” Mr. Smith said. Ava could not believe the shamelessness of her adoptive father. He was still asking for mo
Chapter 105: Your Word Is My LawAva can’t say how it happened, but before the door swung open, she and Damien were fully dressed with her leaning against the table with a pen in her hand. “There he is. I told you he would be expecting us.” Lily announced to the security guards who were trying to prevent her and her family from coming into the office. Ava’s countenance immediately changed on seeing her adoptive family here. Wasn’t it clear that they no longer had anything in common and she owed them nothing? Why was she also saying that Damien was expecting them? "Good day, sir. They came in and insisted that they wanted to see you. The receptionist informed them that they needed to get an appointment first before they could get an audience with you, but they were so adamant that you were expecting them. We tried to stop them, but…" One of the guards explained with a shrug. Damien raised his hand in the air, stopping the guard and all the noise that was filtering into his office.
