`I awoke in a place that was neither Greece nor my childhood home. The air smelled sterile, and the faint hum of machines surrounded me. My eyes fluttered open, adjusting to the harsh fluorescent light.

The room was stark and clinical—a far cry from the sun-drenched beaches of Athens.

But how did I get here? The last thing I remembered was the golden swirl—the one that had beckoned me, whispered promises of forgotten memories.

It had pulled me away from the ancient ruins, away from my parents and my baby brother, who was still in my mother’s arms.

In that dream—or was it a vision?—I had walked through the swirl, its edges shimmering like liquid gold.

My mother’s voice echoed in my mind, urgent and pleading. “Aegeas,” she’d said, “don’t go.” Yet I had gone.
