"About two an a half decades ago, this city used to be part of the great 'Freeland'. It went by a different name that the people of today don't use anymore. The nation of Freeland was a great proponent of 'true freedom' and the leaders tried to rule with laws that were more lax than in other nations. But it didn't turn out well. Not long after it was founded, it became completely lawless and the only rule was survival of the fittest. It was a very hard time for those with no access to magic. They lived in constant fear and torment, and their standard of living was way below average. They wished fervently for a change and their prayers were answered when people's powers started going off in a part of the country. The powers of people went off irregulary. It lasted for minutes, hours, or just a few seconds but the 'revengers' risked any opportunity that came their way and struck. This started a long war in the nation. The revengers armed themselves with weapons of all so
By the time they were done setting up, more than five minutes had gone by. "Their powers have returned" Yamato said "How long until they go off again?" He asked "It's better to just wait them out and move when they are powerless" he suggested but Orie disagreed with him. "It's four hours until the next power shut down" he said "If we wait that long, we risk failing the game" "I forgot to tell you this but by the time the game began, the Metas already knew where source of their powerlessness was coming from" "This game is not espionage" "It's pure violence" "But don't worry" "It's not like bullets don't work on mages" Before anyone could say anything, Shiro and Mia darted out of the house screaming "LET'S GOOO!!" "Aren't you worried about them getting into trouble?" Natsumi asked, looking at Orie. "No, not really" Orie answered as he made his way to the door "This is a game" "The fight doesn't start until we leave this street" "and
As Orie and the others rushed forward, every Meta on the scene immediately turned their attention towards them. Majority of the Metas were fire elementals and they all had a simple pattern. First they would each shoot multiple small flames, then they would shoot big balls of flames, then they would raise their hands in unison and cause flames to rise from the ground everywhere. When the Metas fired the small flames, Orie blocked with his shield and kept running. When they shot the big balls of flames, he evaded and kept on advancing. When they caused flames to rise from the ground, he paid no attention to it and continued running until he got to one of the Metas. Then he immediately unpinned several grenades and dropped them on the floor. BOOM!!! Everyone also followed Orie and did as he did, but when they close to a Meta, they used their guns and swords to attack instead of dropping grenades at their feet and attempting suicide bombing. As they were unleashing their a
Even Orie was shocked and it was apparent on his face. "This wasn't how it went the last time" he thought He was sure that there was a few more waves before this dialogue but that wasn't the case at the moment. He looked back at the wave of Metas that were behind him and noticed something different; they had stopped advancing and were slowly backing away. This was a sign that their powers had gone off. Orie then turned to his companions and said "Alright let's go" and they all band together and started walking past the numerous identical looking revengers. Shiro wanted to ask a question about their looks but he could just picture Orie in his mind yelling "CLASSIC GAME SHI**!!" and he kept quiet. They hadn't walked from the army when the leader called Orie back saying "WAIT!!" "You'll need this" he added as he tossed a car key to Orie and ran back to join his army who had begun advancing on the powerless Metas. "He gave you the keys" Shiro said "Then whe
It was like a hangover after a raging night party. Their heads were aching and their eyes were heavy, so much that they couldn't make out were they were. It was as if they had too much of 'that good wine' and the choking smell in the room made things worse. "This smells like Nega" Orie groaned as he managed to get up "What's that?" Shiro asked as he also stood up "It's actually a 'who" Orie replied "And he's the king of Dahüd" Slowly, everyone recovered from the drowsiness and were able to see clearly. Before them was a man sitted on what could only be described as a throne. It's cushions were pure black and every other part of it was made of gold. The man sitting on it was just as magnificent. His skin was gleaming dark, the brown in his eyes were as the middle part of a sunflower, and his hair shot straight up and was flat at the top. There was no jewelry on him but the mere sight of him brought gold and diamonds into one's thought. Just by looking at him,
"I know that you are not one to lie to me but I'm finding it hard to believe that what you're telling me is true" Orie said "If a priest really died, I would've felt it and so would you and every other priest" "It's the one thing we share" "But that didn't happen, did it?" "That's what I'm trying to tell you" Nega replied "His death was confirmed yet I felt nothing" "But that's not even the worst part" he said "So what is the worst part?" Orie asked, then Nega stayed silent for a while before answering "His entire province" he said "Everywhere that received the blessing of his god is in great despair" "There has been drought from the southern borders of Dahüd down to the coastal areas of the continent and it is getting worse by the day" "It's quite normal" Orie replied "The drought will only last until a new priest succeeds him and that only takes a few days" he said as he placed his hand on Nega's shoulder. "Do you think I don't know
"Woe to those that make enemy of the priests of the mighty ones, for their fate is worse than death" "The damned shall mock them, and the hopeless shall look down on them with pity" "The sick will look healthy in comparison to them, and the shall look alive in their presence" "For they have made and enemy of the priest and in doing so, they have made an enemy of his god" These were the words spoken by Orie while he was held in chains in a small isolated room. There was barely enough light for someone to see around but there wasn't that much to see either. It was and quiet clean for a dark isolated room. There was no dirt, no bad odor, no rats. It was only him, some very strong chains and a guard who told him to shut up after he had just finished making a divine declaration. "One of the perks of being a priest..." Orie said as he stood up "...is that sometimes, we are required to make declarations before we take action" "This is so that whoever is making a m
"For a thousand years, I've waited" "For a thousand years, I've held on and anticipated" "For when this day shall come" "My plan is perfect" "There is no chance for failure" "On this day" "A Raiden shall fall" genji muttered as he looked down at Mia who was bound in chains before him. "You know I can hear everything you're saying, right?" Mia asked as she gave him a cold stare. There was nothing intimidating about his appearance, the sound of his voice was not one to strike fear in others. He looked like every other normal guy but his name was not one to be spoken in jest. 'Genji of the Order' was a name feared in the entire underground society. "Oh" Genji said in surprise "I thought you were still sleeping" he added "But it's not like you can do anything about it" "You're completely bound and weakened" "You can't oppose me in your current state" "How sure are you about that?" Mia asked "Very sur..." Before Genji could complet
From within the circle came forth a huge bird of prey; a hawk. It appeard to be fully covered in silver. Just by looking at it, one could tell that its beak was harder than a rock and that its claws were as sharp as blades, even its wings didn't seem flying was all they could do. At this point in the battle where pride was being cast aside, the same thought ran through the minds of everyone watching. "NOW THE REAL FIGHT BEGINS" "Go" at this command from Chris, the bird threw itself at Orie with incredible speed. Orie evaded the bird without problem but what came next was quite challenging. After evading an attack from above he found himself facing one from below. Not many can escape such attacks from Chris. He would use the bird to make his opponents dodge in a certain manner, then he would go in for the real attack when their balance had been compromised. It was quite an effective move, but just not for Orie. "How is this possible?" Chris thought to himself as he
"This is my day" "This is my day" "This is my day" It kept repeating but Natsumi could not understand what it meant" "This is my day" She knew she had forgotten something "This is my day" She was sure she had forgotten something "This is my day" Something that would help her discern the situation. "This is my day" It stopped as soon as she realized what it meant. She remembered that when she thought it was Orie's birthday, he had told her these words. She remembered how he told her of the four market days of his tribe and that he shared his name with one of them. She remembered that he told her how the days affected his power, and this made her the least surprised person among the audience when Orie got back up on his feet. "WHAT... THE... F***!!!!?" Ellie screamed at the camera "How much blood does this guy have?" "He's lost so much yet he is still standing" "What kind of immortal dragon sh** is this" "This is not easy to believ
Chris Vanadium. The only reason he didn't make it to the finals as much as Cal was that he faced Waramaki in most of the semifinals. He is one of the few people that have been able to beat Cal in the previous tournaments. He is also a one time champion and the one he beat to earn that title was none other than Fuji Waramaki. There were many reasons to fear him, but most feared attribute of his was the speed of his blade. Yes, he fights with a sword and he is really good with it; so good that a large percentage of his matches end in less than a minute. Anyone that saw his previous match was immediately reminded of how dangerous he was, even some that had faith in Orie in the previous match lost it for this one. To sum things up on how dangerous he was, the chance of him making it to the final match of the current tournament was ninety-nine percent. Though Orie's match was the first of round one, in round two, his match was the third. Not many had high hopes for this match beca
There was complete silence in all parts of the stadium. It wasn't that people had nothing to say but what could they say that could explain what just happened before their eyes? They just watched as the referee ran in to confirm the outcome. It took longer than usual as the referee also had his doubts but in the end he had no choice but to declare Cal unable to continue. The silence broke immediately he stood up to declare Orie the winner. The doubt of many began to flow out in words. "IT'S A LIE!!" "THIS IS BULLSHIT!!" "THIS GAME IS RIGGED!!" There was no word of doubt that was not spoken at that moment. Even when the medics came out to put Cal on a stretcher, people still thought it was an act. What could Orie do? He had just won a match and no one believed it. There was hardly anyone cheering for him, all the loud voices expressed nothing but doubt, hate, and disbelief. Despite all the hate he was getting, he just cracked a smile and walked out of the arena
You never truly appreciate a miracle unless you heard of it before it happened. That moment when the thing you thought was just too impossible begins to unfold before you for the very first time. There is no look more precious than that of one who has had such experience. Miracles happen only once. After that, it becomes a possibility. Cal and Orie were initially rated on a seven to one ratio. This meant that the officials of this tournament believed that Cal was at least seven times more powe6r than Orie and seven times more likely to win. At the current time the ratio had become ten to one. It seemed hopeless for the few that had put their faith in Orie. The match wasn't over but the situation made them feel the winner was already decided. "What is he doing in there?" "Does he have a death wish?" "Just give up already!!"even some of those that were on his opponent's side felt pity for him but Orie was not one to dwell on pity. He could not hear their words, al
"Ellie Porter here" "Live from the inside of the stadium and best seat in the house" "The starting buzzer for the match has been sounded but neither of the contenders have moved from their starting positions" "Cal is taking his time to charge up his power but we have no idea why Orie hasn't moved yet" "I still stand on my support for him but he has done what the rest of the world consider to be the greatest mistake in the history of this tournament" Ellie was right. Everyone that won against Cal in the previous tournament was powerful but that wasn't the only reason they won; they were able to win because they stopped him from charging up properly. The last person that let him charge up fully got knocked out in one hit and that was the expectation most of the crowd had for Orie. Soon, Cal had finished charging up. One could tell by the steam-like aura that could be seen emanating from his body. He got ready to move as the cheering of the crowd got louder; he was con
Just in case you were wondering where the fight was happening, the SHIN SEKAI company built a large stadium in the middle of the island where all roads cross. It was not exactly a hard place to find; in fact it was the most findable place in all of the island. The city was crowded with people from all over the world who were there for many different reasons. With the exception of those that came to spectate the matches, the most common visitors to this event were scouts and reporters. The tournament may not do much for the teachers, but it had the power to determine the future of the students that participated. "Ellie Porter here, reporting live from stadium one" a woman spoke with a clear voice as she stood with a microphone in front of a camera man. "As you can see, people from all over the world have come to witness the first match of the new world tournament" "This tournament was first introduced thirteen years ago on the same year that the school was built"
78: The goal ahead The new world tournament was one unique tournament. Despite the fact that it was held by a school and it's participants were staff and students, it still managed to draw worldwide attention. One contributing factor to this could be that the Shin-sekai academy was a prestigious school and was attended by the children of many of the world's elites but the major factor was that it proved to be more entertaining than many others in the world. The structure of the tournament was divided. The teachers' tournament took place first then the students' came after. After winners had been decided from both sides, the two winners would then have a face off. The winner of the previous teacher's tournament was Fuji Waramaki who had remained undefeated for five years. He also won all the face-offs with the student champions. The teachers tournament was full of old faces and the only two new faces in the tournament were Orie and Natsumi. Not many expected a different re
"The breeze in the west shall become the storm in the east" "It shall become a powerful force in the north" "And a sight of awe in the south" "And when it returns to the west..." "It shall be unstoppable" "My dear boy, Andrew Clipper" "These are not mere words" "This is your story" On hearing this, Andrew opened his eyes. He was on his knees and Orie stood beside him, placing a hand on his head. The room was dark and was lit by seven candles, and there was no one else in the room with them. Though all the doors and windows in the room were closed an intense wind blew within it. Gradually, the wind got stronger and blew ferociously around the empty room. It was strange that the seven candles didn't go off. "You are a storm that will sweep through all" "A wind that can move lands" "A reckoning force of greatness" "An unbreakable wind" "That, is what you are" Shiro was waiting for them outside the room. Throughout his the time he was wa
