Christina woke up to the warm rays of sunlight streaming through the curtain binds of her room. She rolled out of bed only to see that the day has progressed while she was knocked out cold."Goodness!" She muttered under her breath and rose to her feet. How could she have slept for so long and why didn't anyone wake her up?Sliding her feet into her slippers, she headed out of her bedroom and made her way towards Max's room. She found the house surpassingly quiet with no signs of Patty or his mother.Come to think of it, she didn't see them last night when she got back and she had been too broken in her emotions to even bother to ask. Where could everybody have gone? She approached Max's door and after knocking, he permitted her to come inside."Good morning." His face lit up when he saw her at the door looking like a beautiful radiant sunrise that had come to brighten up his day."You're working?" It was more of a statement than a question when she saw the littered papers on his desk
Max stirred up to something heavy pressed against his chest. He tried moving both his hands but found it unable to do so.To make matters worse, they were numb. His entire body felt like something a train had run over. He doesn't remember being this tired when he slept last night so what happened?Forcing his eyes open, his blurry orbs took in the almost luminous room and that's when he realized that he wasn't in his room.Memories from last night came crashing in and just as he tried to force himself awake, someone purred softly and tightened her grip on his shirt as she pushed herself closer to him.Memories from last night came rushing in like waves. He had remembered staying up with her all night and keeping her company because she didn't want him to leave.Moments after she fell asleep, he had cuddled up with her because he didn't want to stir her awake by leaving. He didn't even know when he fell asleep and the rest is history.Max stared down to see Christina clinging to him li
"When those men tried to touch me, all I kept thinking about was, what if?" She started, wiping the tears that clung to her face like a second skin."I kept asking myself what if it happens again. I felt so helpless and that's what has been eating me out." She scraped off her nails aggressively as she tried to curb her emotions."If it weren't for you, I honestly don't know what could've happened Max and that thought alone keeps scaring me." Burying her face in her palm, she cried loudly but he didn't stop her. Each time he tried to reach out to her, he stopped himself because he didn't want to scare her.She was visibly shaking and he had noticed the stiff tension in the air in the car prior to this conversation so he knew that whatever she was going through, whatever demons she was trying to fight for so long were too big a burden that she had been carrying alone. It pained him to see her like this. Something inside him stirred just watching her cry. He felt unsheathed rage; like he
"There, all done." The nurse commented after she was done cleaning off the bruise on Max's fists. He had tried to get her to seek help first but she was adamant that they attended to him before they did to her and not wanting to upset her any more than she already was, he decided to go with what she wanted. If doing this would put her mind at ease and give her peace even for a moment then he would gladly do so without any complaints.Besides, another reason why he didn't want to upset her was because deep down, he felt a little guilt that he had left her all alone when he had promised to wait for her.It was still eating out at it. He couldn't help but imagine what would've happened if he came just a few minutes later than he did.He had wanted to get her candy floss because he saw how she had ogled at it all evening and thought it would be a fun way to end their night only to come back to such horror. He'd never had been able to forgive himself if something bad had truly happened to
"Are you ready?" Max asked that evening when Christina joined him outside. He had rushed back home after finishing with the work that he had came there to do.He didn't expect to stay out all day but he couldn't help it. He had urgent things that needed his attention and luckily, Christina understood his plight."Yes." She smiled at him after adjusting her dress. Funny enough, she had been waiting for this trip all day even though she pretended not to care."I'm sorry again for being late, Cupcake." He apologized for the umpteenth time that evening. "Believe me, I did everything in my power to come back as soon as I could.""But I'm not even angry at you." She spoke, not understanding why he kept on apologizing. "Besides, we came here because you had work to do so it's obvious that you'd be busy.""You're here now and that's what matters so, stop apologizing please. It's embarrassing." She muttered the last sentence to herself even though he heard her clearly."Alright, I'll stop." He
Christina ran into her room and closed the door shut behind her almost immediately. Her heart was beating, slamming hard against her ribcage and she could feel the tightness that made it's way to her throat. She knew that it wasn't there because of thirst but something else, something that she wasn't ready to fully admit to herself. What on earth is wrong with her? And why him? Why him of all people?Placing her hands on her chest, she started to take slow but deep breaths to calm her nerves that were all over the place. She had never felt like this until now so she didn't know exactly how to handle it.If only she could tell Hera and maybe ask for advice but doing that would give her away and if Hera began to get suspicious then she wouldn't be able to face her at all."I don't know what's wrong with me." She cried to herself as she discarded the shawl and made her way towards the bed.Maybe she was just in her feels and it will all go away when she sleeps it off by tomorrow morning.
