Luna's mind spun in circles as she processed Marcus's words. Sophia, her best friend, her partner and confidante, had paid to erase crucial evidence of George's crime–the same crime that had almost ruined them.

An icy numbness spread through Luna's body and she felt as if she was drowning in ice-cold water. She couldn't think, couldn't breathe. All she could do was stare blankly ahead, her eyes fixed on the empty road ahead of her.

The road appeared blurry to her and it seemed to stretch on forever.
