Chapter 4 The agreement

A well-dressed man in his late 30s entered the room and handed some folders to Carl.

“Sean, are all the terms and conditions written down?” Carl asked.

“Yes, my lord. Every detail you mentioned is included,” Sean replied, glancing briefly at Aster, who was sitting on the couch watching them. He nodded at her in a sign of respect before leaving the room.

Once again, it was just the two of them in the room.

“Here, read and understand all the conditions stated,” Carl said, handing her the file.

Aster was in complete shock as she read through the details.

“Oh no! I can’t marry you! I already have a boyfriend—this is insane!” she shouted hysterically.

Carl laughed at her reaction.

“Quit the drama, Aster. I’ve already done my research on you. I know everything—your body measurements, your past relationships… even Dane Bastre—Vanessa’s brother—is pursuing you, but you’ve rejected them all. You’re exactly what I need right now.”

“What? Is marriage a joke to you? Why would I marry someone I just met?”

“This is a marriage of convenience. I’ll promote you, but you must agree to marry me. We’ll divorce after one year,” Carl said calmly.

“So the rumors are true? All the Landon heirs must be married before their 29th birthday. Why is that?”

“It’s a sacred tradition for us Lycans. When we turn 29, the Moon Goddess gives us the ultimatum of our power—but only if we’re married by then.”

“Okay… but promise me—it’s only an agreement. We’ll divorce after a year.”

“Yes, I promise. But no one must know about what we discussed here. Understand?”

“Yes, no one must know,” she agreed.

After signing the agreement, Carl told her not to worry about the wedding preparations and to wait for his call.

The Next Day

After finishing her patient rounds, Aster returned to her office. A bouquet of flowers on her desk immediately caught her eye.

“Where did this come from?” she asked her assistant.

“Dra, it came from Sir Carl Landon,” her assistant replied with a wide, teasing smile.

Bzzzz

An unknown number flashed on her phone.

“Hello?”

“It’s me. Did you get the flowers?” Carl asked.

“Yes. Why would you send me flowers?” Aster replied.

“Well, it would be suspicious if I suddenly announced I’m marrying you without at least pretending to court you.”

“Do as you please then. Goodbye,” she said, cutting the call before he could respond.

---

“Ma’am, you didn’t tell me that the Carl Landon is pursuing you! He’s the most eligible bachelor in Santossa! Almost all the girls fantasize about him—he’s the next head of the Landon family!” Jean, her assistant, gushed like an excited teenager.

“Yes… I just met him last week,” Aster replied calmly.

“Wow! Can you describe him in every detail, please?”

“Jean, quit it! I’ll let you meet him someday. For now, I need you to finish these records—I need them by the end of the day,” she instructed.

“Oh really? You promise?” Jean beamed, her excitement barely contained.

“Yes, I promise,” Aster said with a smile, realizing how small things can truly make others happy.

The rumors spread like wildfire about Aster being courted by Carl and the possibility of a marriage proposal. Even the media and internet were abuzz with curiosity about her.

Carl advised her to take a leave from work and stay at home for safety purposes until the issue settled. He also assigned two bodyguards to stay at her residence.

The Landon Company released an official statement announcing the upcoming wedding of Carl and Aster. The schedule and venue of the wedding were to be announced soon.

---

The news reached Nadia and Jacob, who were currently out of the country. Nadia was hysterical, repeatedly trying to call Carl, who refused to answer. Meanwhile, Jacob remained calm as he spoke to someone over the phone.

“What is Carl thinking—marrying a human?! He knows they can’t produce an heir! Our bloodline is doomed! My goodness, what will we do? Call him—maybe he’ll answer you!” Nadia cried in frustration and anger.

“Honey, calm down. We need to trust Carl in this situation. He knows what he’s doing,” Jacob replied in a composed tone.

“What if he’s been enchanted by that woman? Who is she, really? Maybe she’s a witch—look at her surname, Carello!” Nadia exclaimed.

“Carl can’t be enchanted by witches, you know that. Unless she’s a vampire—which she’s not. Sean confirmed she’s 100% human. I already spoke to him about her. She’s the adoptive daughter of the late Vienna Carello, cast out by the coven after Vienna died. Intriguing, isn’t it?” Jacob said thoughtfully.

“What bothers me most is why Vienna, such a powerful and skilled witch, would adopt her. Vienna must have seen something in this girl... and that’s what really piques my curiosity.”

“So, you're telling me we should welcome that woman into our family with open arms? Are you insane? Even if she’s human, Vienna might have taught her enchantments—what if she targeted our son?” Nadia snapped.

“Unless you want to have a problem with Merca, then go ahead,” Jacob said firmly.

“Why would Merca be involved in this?” Nadia asked, her voice lowering at the mention of the name.

---

Merca was the eldest in the Landon family, followed by Jacob. She was the former president of the company, but because she never married and had no heir, she personally trained her nephew Carl to be her successor. Every member of the Landon family feared opposing her. Since her retirement, she had been living peacefully in S Country, teaching kindergarten.

---

“Merca and Vienna were inseparable back then. They were very close friends. That makes Merca the godmother of Vienna’s child,” Jacob explained.

Nadia was left speechless. Even if she was against the union, there was nothing she could do. Her position in the family was nothing compared to Merca’s authority.

The hidden sanctuary lay beneath a veil of enchantment so ancient it breathed with its own consciousness. Only those bound by love and blood could pass through its protective layers. As Maika and Carl reached its threshold, the vines parted willingly, the trees whispering softly as if recognizing them.Carl stepped forward first, a surge of restless energy in his chest. His boots crunched the moss-lined path, each step toward the truth heavier than the last. Beside him, Maika walked silently, her aura simmering — equal parts rage, longing, and hope. They emerged into the clearing, and there she was.Seraphine stood in the center, her long silver hair loose over her shoulders, a soft glow clinging to her form like moonlight woven into flesh. She turned slowly, sensing the approaching auras. Her eyes met Maika’s first — and time stopped. For a heartbeat, no one moved. The wind itself seemed to hold its breath.“…Mother?” Seraphine whispered.Maika’s face crumbled. She stepped forward, a

The sanctuary lay hidden beneath the silver pines and eternal mist of the Hollow Glade. Crystals thrummed low against the earth, ancient elven sigils embedded into the stone, pulsing in resonance with the blood that now flowed again through Alaric Vellaria Vaelthorne’s veins. He had not stirred since the fever overtook him.Until now.A slow breath escaped his lips. His fingers twitched against the silk sheets. Then—his eyes opened.Golden. Not the cold silver he was known for.But sun-touched gold, glowing faintly like fire trapped in ice.“Alaric…” came a soft voice. He turned his head slowly. The motion was stiff, painful. But he saw her—Elira—sitting beside him, her face pale and tear-stained, eyes rimmed with dark lashes and worry. Not Seraphine, not the human girl raised in silence.Elira.Something ancient stirred between them, like starlight breaking through the clouds. Recognition. Memory.“Your blood,” he rasped. “It called something… ancient.”Elira nodded, not breaking her

Caveen stepped into the grand hall, his shoulders stiff, cloak tattered with ash and blood. Every inch of him reeked of battle—his boots smeared with dust from the Council’s temple, his eyes still burning with the aftermath of unleashed fury.Carl was already waiting. He stood at the top of the staircase, arms crossed, his expression stone-cold. Maika appeared behind him a second later, her dark eyes sharpening as they fell on her son."You came back," Carl said, voice low but trembling with barely restrained anger. "You damn fool."Maika's heels clicked against the marble as she descended. "Where is Alaric?" she asked coldly. "And where have you taken Seraphine?"Caveen removed his cloak, tossed it over a chair, and met their eyes without flinching."They're safe. At the sanctuary."Carl didn’t wait another heartbeat. In two long strides, he was before his son, grabbing him by the collar and slamming him into the nearest pillar."Do you even understand what you've done?!" Carl shoute

The sanctuary was cloaked in twilight, its crystalline ceiling dim under the weight of sorrow.Alaric hadn’t stirred in days.No spell, no balm, no ancient elven rune could soothe what the Council’s cursed arrow had left behind. It wasn’t a wound of the body—it was a fracture of the soul. The kind that only ancient blood could awaken or mend.Elira sat beside him again, sleepless, her fingers gently combing through his silver hair as his body shivered beneath fur-lined sheets. Sweat soaked the pillow. His skin burned with a fever that seemed to come from within.Caveen stood behind her, arms crossed tightly over his chest, eyes red from worry and fury alike.“I’ve summoned every glyph I know,” Elira whispered. Caveen didn’t reply at first. He only watched her, noting the weariness under her eyes—the shimmer of frustration, helplessness, and something deeper.Guilt.“Elira, you’ve done enough.”“It’s not enough if he dies,” she snapped.A long silence fell between them. The room buzze

The Council Temple trembled beneath a force older than time.Gold-black light exploded from Seraphine—no, from Elira—her name pulsing in the very walls of the temple as the magic of a lost lineage clawed its way back into the world. Her scream had torn through reality itself, and now the very air crackled with power. She floated, feet no longer touching the ground. Her eyes, once soft and confused, now gleamed with ancient awareness. Elira’s dormant blood—the blood sealed for two decades—had begun to awaken. The markings of a forgotten royal witch glowed on her palms, swirling with the same magic the Council had tried to erase.“You fools,” Elder Vashan choked, backing away. “She—she was here this whole time?”“We sealed Elira twenty years ago,” Elder Myria whispered, shaking. “This… this is not possible. She was never supposed to return!”But she had.And they had delivered her awakening with their own hands.Elira descended slowly, her hand outstretched toward the still, broken body
