Marian pov

I sat on the bench, enjoying a glass of red wine and some chips to cap off my day. A soft giggle escaped me as I scrolled through my phone; the news and entertainment updates were overwhelming in the best way. I nearly dropped my phone from the sheer joy of what I was reading, my grip tightening around it.

Suddenly, I heard a familiar voice call my name. My happiness faltered; I couldn't shake off the memory of her snooping on Scarlett's phone the other day. I had no desire to engage with her, especially since she had a crush on my Nyx. I kept my eyes glued to the screen, ignoring her attempts to get my attention.

"Marian, I..." she hesitated, likely sensing my irritation. "Marian, are you okay?" Lexi asked, her voice barely above a whisper as she stepped closer, blocking my view.

I chose to ignore her, pretending to be engrossed in my phone as I scrolled through the news feed. The once-refreshing breeze now felt sharp and cold, mirroring my frosty attitude.

"Hey, Marian,"

Scarlett pov“I’m cheering for you, Scarlett. Why not take a break? I can handle things from here.” Lexi’s words struck me. Does she want to support me? Why? I pondered, looking at her. My face was marked with concern; I didn’t want to reveal my foolishness, especially with my stomach growling, the noise echoing in my ears.“Scarlett, I’ll take a day off work with you and let us rest,” she said, smiling as she propped her leg on the coffee table. I couldn’t respond right away because I was busy setting the dining table for breakfast. Marian would be down soon.I turned to Lexi, raised my eyebrows playfully, and gave her a thumbs up. “Hey, I’m on it. Let me grab the food from the kitchen before Marian comes down,” I said, hurrying to the kitchen.I rushed into the kitchen, the aroma of sizzling bacon and fresh coffee enveloping me. My stomach protested louder, demanding food. I quickly put together a breakfast spread of scrambled eggs, toast, and fresh fruit. As I worked, I couldn’t s

Markus povI took a sip of vodka, gasping as the anger surged within me. Just as I was about to glance at the fridge, my phone beeped.I looked at the number but couldn't place it. It didn't seem to be from my country. Who could it be? I grabbed my phone from the counter, my fist tightening around it, my heart racing. After all, when you're constantly pursued, it's hard not to feel on edge. I unlocked the phone to find a puzzling message: "It's been years, brother. I miss you." My eyes widened in shock. I struggled to understand the message, shifting in my seat, feeling utterly bewildered. I couldn't recall ever having a sister. I poured another shot of vodka into my glass.Staring at the screen, my mind was flooded with questions. Who was this person? How did they get my number? And why were they claiming to be my sibling? I had always believed I was an only child. The anger that had consumed me began to fade, replaced by curiosity and a touch of anxiety. I took another gulp of vodka

Lexi povI had taken Markus' number from Scarlett's phone the day before, hoping to remind him of me, his little sister, in case he had forgotten. Now, I stood in front of my wardrobe, feeling lost about where to begin. "I need to pack," I said to myself, fabricating a story about staying in Portland. I missed my brother too much to ignore it.As I faced the chaotic pile of clothes, my thoughts drifted. "I miss my brother," I murmured, a quiet plea that felt like a shout inside me. It had been years since I last saw Markus, and the longing was becoming too much to bear."Forget the clothes," I said, slamming the wardrobe door. I collapsed onto my bed, surrounded by boxes that were only half-filled and belongings scattered everywhere. My eyes fell on my phone, still displaying Markus' number. Our conversation yesterday had been short and awkward; he seemed preoccupied, but maybe that was just how I perceived it.I tossed the phone away in frustration. Why was this so difficult? Packing

Joe povI spun around on my bed, reaching out for the throw pillow, but instead, my hand brushed against something else. It felt like a person... I stopped mid-sentence, suddenly sitting up and rubbing the sleep from my eyes. There was Alia, her face scrunched in annoyance as she perched on my mattress."Joe, get out of bed already, it's morning," she snapped, arms crossed tightly."Just let me sleep a little longer," I mumbled.I let my head fall back onto the pillow, using my hands to rub my eyes. "Five more minutes, Alia. Please."Her frown deepened, dark eyebrows furrowing. "You've been saying that for the last hour, Joe. We need to get going. We have that meeting with the designer at 9, and I refuse to let you show up late, looking like you just woke up."I cracked one eye open, taking in Alia's serious demeanor. Her arms were crossed, and her foot tapped impatiently on the floor. I sighed internally; there was no arguing with her when she was like this.I sighed, throwing off th

Scarlett povThe sharp chirping of the bird resonated in the air. I grinned at the chill of the weather, and suddenly, I felt a surge within me that quickened my heartbeat. My fingers shook as all the metal items in the house began to lift. My ability to manipulate metal was revealing itself. As I stood there, captivated, the metal objects around me floated, held aloft as if by unseen strings. The tremor in my fingers grew stronger, radiating through my arms like a chill running down my spine. My heart raced, pounding against my chest, as if it might leap out."Oh no, not now," I murmured, anxiety creeping into my tone. "Not again."But it was too late. The metal items started to whirl around me, creating a chaotic storm of pots, pans, and tools. The noise was overwhelming—clanging, screeching, and scraping—a cacophony of disorder. My gaze darted around, desperately seeking a way out, but every exit was locked tight, ensnared by the very metal I was trying to command. Lexi povWhere is he?We were supposed to meet at the coffee shop, and now he’s leaving me hanging?Lexi, take a breath… I tried to steady myself, staring through the glass wall of the café. I could spot him from a distance; the anticipation of reuniting with my brother after so many years filled me with excitement.“Excuse me, ma'am, you haven’t placed an order since you arrived.” A tall waitress with red hair approached, her arms crossed behind her back, her eyes downcast.I raised my eyebrows, glaring at her in frustration. She had no idea how anxious I was; I was waiting for someone important, and she was reminding me about ordering. I scoffed and turned my attention back to the table.“Ma'am, I…” she trailed off, noticing my expression.I frowned, my frustration boiling over as I tapped my fingers on the table. The waitress hesitated, sensing my agitation, and slowly retreated. "I’ll come back later," she said quietly.I shifted my focus back to the entrance, scanning the crowd f

Joe pov“Can you please stop yelling!” I growled, my anger simmering like a volcano ready to erupt. I paced the room, moving from behind the couch to the front, the tension thick in the air. I couldn't grasp the entire situation. Alia kept reminding me that I was about to take a significant risk."Joe, look at me. Why didn’t you tell me that it’s either you find Scarlett or your life is at stake? What kind of coven imposes such a condition?" she asked, standing in front of me with her hands on her hips, her voice filled with concern."That's the reality, Alia. I've been living in hell. You saw the kind of magic she wields, right? She's incredibly clever and dangerous. Thanks to your locator spell, we managed to trace her to the building, but I knew it wouldn’t work because I had something of hers—a photograph," I replied, my face contorting with a wave of intense emotion."I can't believe you kept this from me, Joe," Alia's voice trembled, her eyes flashing with a mix of anger and wor

Scarlett pov“Someone visited me.”“Who?” I asked urgently, my voice barely above a whisper.“My sister.”“You have a sister, Markus?” I was completely thrown off by this news. After twelve years together, he had never mentioned any family to me.It was astonishing how my husband had started seeing another woman just because I left him, I thought as I pressed the phone against my shoulder, needing to grasp all the new information he was revealing.“Calm down, Scarlett, I’m not cheating on you. She called days ago, explaining how families can drift apart, and she was right about every detail.” He reassured me, but I remained unmoved.“Her name is…”I interrupted him. “Markus, this conversation is finished. I need to clear my mind in the peaceful space I’ve created for myself. Take care of yourself and your… SISTER.” I hung up. Scarlett's POV:Tears cascaded down my face as I gazed through the narrow, barred window of my prison cell. The view outside was a hazy mix of water and sky, the entire landscape engulfed, with no land in sight. The magnitude of my situation was beyond my comprehension. A prison submerged beneath the waves, where the horizon seemed to stretch infinitely, and everything I cherished had vanished beneath the surface. How did I end up in this place? How did my life devolve into such a nightmare? My heart raced as I wiped away the tears, my fingers quivering as they brushed against my damp cheeks. The chill from the window bit into my skin, yet it paled in comparison to the deep ache within me—the longing for freedom, for hope, for an escape. The thought of remaining in this submerged prison had never crossed my mind. Yet, here I was, confined in a cell, feeling as if the very water surrounding me was closing in, threatening to engulf me entirely.I allowed my body to slide down against th

Scarlett povThe frigid air struck my skin sharply as the guards pushed me through the cramped prison hallways. My muscles tightened, adrenaline coursing through me as I fought to control my breathing. I sensed Blackwood's menacing presence just behind me, like a hunter relishing the scent of its quarry. Each step reminded me of the torment awaiting me. I had been in this place before, but the circumstances were now altered. This time, I wasn’t merely a captive; I was a target they aimed to shatter."You'll regret crossing me, Scarlett," Blackwood hissed, his voice low and filled with malice. A chill ran down my spine, but I refused to give him the satisfaction of revealing my fear.I smirked, keeping my voice calm despite the cold seeping into my bones. “You really think I’m afraid of you? You clearly don’t know me, Blackwood.”He halted, his footsteps reverberating in the stillness of the corridor. I could feel his cold, calculating gaze on the back of my head. “Oh, I know enough. Y

Scarlett pov It was time for the usual daily bath. For us prisoners, bathing together in the communal bathroom was just part of the routine. I gathered my soap and other essentials, wiping my dusty face with a towel. As I made my way down the hall, I sensed something was different. Women were gathered, towels wrapped around them. My heart raced as I calculated my steps toward the scene. What was happening? That question echoed in my mind. "Hey Scarlett, hurry up or you'll face the consequences!" a sharp soprano voice called from behind, pushing me to move faster. I quickened my pace, my heart pounding with unease. The usual sounds of chatter and laughter were replaced by an unsettling quiet. I tightened my towel around me, the rough fabric irritating my skin as I continued. As I neared the bathroom, I noticed the door was slightly open, a beam of light spilling out and creating an eerie glow on the floor. I pushed the door open and scanned the room for clues about the situatio

Marian pov I gathered my things, preparing to head to work, feeling the heaviness of loneliness and anxiety in my chest. I ignored the noisy fridge, too consumed by the reality that everyone I cared about had left. Scarlett and Finn were no longer part of my life. As I stood there, caught in my morning routine, the burden of solitude felt overwhelming. Scarlett and Finn had filled my days with joy and laughter, and now their absence echoed painfully in the silence. I inhaled deeply, attempting to dispel the emptiness that had taken root inside me. I needed to get to work; I couldn't allow my personal struggles to interfere with my duties. I finished dressing, my actions automatic as I went through the steps. I picked up my bag and moved toward the door, but a wave of anxiety washed over me as I reached for the handle. What if I couldn't manage this? What if facing the day without Scarlett and Finn was too much? I dismissed those thoughts, reminding myself that I had overcome

I could already sense his fury at the news that the one woman he tasked me with finding was still missing. I was certain he would kill me for this failure. As I pushed through the heavy wooden doors, the eerie creaking resonated in the empty hallway, reflecting the dread that gripped my chest. My heart felt like it was being crushed, each beat a reminder of the reckoning that awaited me.I had let Klaus down. The burden of that failure weighed heavily on me, threatening to suffocate me. Scarlett, the person he had entrusted to me, was still out there, and I was the one who would face the repercussions.Approaching Klaus's study, I felt my palms grow clammy. Scarlett povThe door to my prison ward swung open for the first time in weeks, and the sight of daylight filled me with a surge of joy.As I emerged from the grim cell, the warm sunlight enveloped my face, its golden rays rejuvenating my weary spirit. It felt as though the universe was welcoming me back to life. I closed my eyes, tilted my head back, and allowed the light to embrace me, igniting a flicker of hope deep within. The sound of rustling clothes and soft voices pulled me back to the present. I opened my eyes to see a group of women in worn uniforms, their expressions a blend of curiosity and caution. I recognized that look; it mirrored my own reflection from the past weeks.A small woman with a messy bob and a scar above her left eyebrow stepped forward. "Well, look who finally decided to grace us with her presence," she said, her tone laced with sarcasm. "The princess has arrived."I shot her a sharp look.
