CAMILLA'S POV.

I was shaking, convulsing, every single fiber in my body, as I sat in the passenger's seat of the car. I cried like the only tears left in this world streamed down my face, blurring the darkened streets ahead of me as Anthony ran through the city. I couldn't stop shaking; couldn't stop playing it over and over again in my head. How could I have let that happen? How could I have let them take him?

"Camilla… " The edge in Anthony's voice cut through my fog with one swipe, but I really couldn't grasp the things he said.

"I should've done something," I whispered, hoarse and torn. "I couldn't protect him. I couldn't—"

"Stop," Anthony persisted firmly, his hands firm on the wheel. "This is not your fault, Camilla. None of this is."

I shook my head furiously. "It is. I should have known. I should have done more."

His voice cracked with the guilt of it all. "You did everything you could. They ambushed us both. I never saw it coming either."

I heard the strain in his voice, but

DANTE'S POV.I entered my study and began to pace, unable to calm the tempest raging within my brain. All the minutes felt like ages that have to be suffered; scenes of Jasper torn from Camilla etched on my brain. My jaws ached; I stopped before the window and gazed out into the darkness of night. I wasn't going to let her see what was churning within, how close I had been to losing it all together and giving up control completely. I had to fix this. I had to bring my son back home.Nobody else is going to do it. It was left for me to do.I was pacing the room when that click in my head occurred, a memory, something that hadn't crossed my mind since the news of Jasper's abduction. Jasper's necklace, which I'd given him months ago, and insisted he wore it every day. It was more than any simple piece of jewelry, I'd insert a small tracking device inside, just in case something like this happened. A secret I hadn't shared with Camilla. Not one minute passed. I tore into my desk, flung up

ELLA'S POVI sprawled on the leather couch in my penthouse-the city lights visible through the wide, tall windows. It was all just so overly luxurious tonight, each sparkle a sobering reminder that this plan better work. Dante was supposed to lose Jasper and without his son, Camilla would be nothing. My phone buzzed, its shrill vibration slicing through the thick silence like a knife as I snatched it up in an instant; the caller ID was blocked, anonymous, just as it usually was. This better be good."Talk," I said, not even waiting for a greeting."There's been a problem," came the voice on the other end, the guy sounded like he hedged, which wasn't a good sign.My stomach seemed to knot up. A problem? "What kind of problem?""Somebody else took the kid before our men got there."I blinked, the cool flat surface of the phone growing slick with sweat as my fingers constricted around it. "What in the name of hell do you mean, someone else took him? Who?""We don't know," he said, his v

  • SAVING MY MAFIA BOSS   Double crossed

DANTE'S POV The cool night air nipped at my skin the instant I stepped out of the car. The address from the tracker was some kilometers away: some abandoned apartment building on the outskirts of town. Dark, silent, almost too quiet for what we were about to pull. I turned and Alex was some feet away from me, his body silhouetted against the dark shadows. In quick strides, he reached me and leaned intently into my face. "They're in there," he hissed jerking his head toward the darkened building. "I counted three men. All with guns. And I heard Jasper. He's crying." ‘Jasper was crying,’ it was a blow to the solar plexus. My son. Every minute he was in their hands was a knife twisting deeper into me. I gritted my teeth, squeezing my eyes shut to clear my head. "We move now," I growled low. "We get him out, no mistakes. Understood?" Alex nodded. "The rest of the team's already in position. Just waiting for your go.

ELLA'S POV My trembling hand lifted the phone to my ear. The low hum of the line was almost a buzz in the quiet of the room. The voice on the other side was as cold and gruff as ice. My heartbeat fluttered with anxiety. "We have the boy," he said so quietly it was almost a whisper. "What are your instructions?" I slumped back in my chair, heart racing. Finally, Jasper was in their hands. It all had finally fallen into place. Now came the big part: the final act. "Kill him," I commanded, the tone shriller than I meant to. "No mistakes this time. Do it quick, before Dante can save him again." There was a pause on the line, and I could almost feel the weight of this man processing my words, the weight of what I was asking. It didn't faze me; it never had. Jasper was just collateral. A pawn in a much larger game. "Understood," he said, though I could hear the hesitance. "We'll make it clean." "You better

DANTE'S POVThe tires slid to a stop on the loose gravel, sending it flying in all directions as we came to an abrupt stop near the edge of the riverbank. I was out of the car before it had completely pulled to a stop, eyes scanning the dark waters ahead. It was a low glow over the rippling surface, but it was the movement near the edge that caught my eye, the silhouette of three men, one of them holding a small figure. Jasper. My heart was pounding against my chest. They were too close to the river, too close to it."They're gonna toss him in," I snarled, already moving toward them.In an instant, Alex was beside me, gun out, eyes keen and bright. "We can't let that happen."We didn't need a plan. Instinct took over.I sprinted forward, feet pounding wet dirt, the roar of my pulse loud in my ears. The two men standing at the edge of the water never even heard us coming. When they turned, it was already too late.I launched myself at the closest one, my fist connecting with his jaw wi

  • SAVING MY MAFIA BOSS   In my arms again

CAMILLA'S POVI paced the sitting room as my heart hovered over each elapsed second. The silent mansion choked me to a suffocating degree. Every ticking of the clock seemed to mock cruelly at my helpless situation. Anthony stood close by, his eyes scanning the room, as if he could, by will, usher Jasper safely back. Yet neither of us was able to do more than wait.My baby. Jasper.Where was he? Was he all right? Has Dante found him yet?I flexed my fists into my palms, digging my nails in as a mechanism to breathe. The worst thoughts crept in, my son, alone and scared, hurt, and it was just more than I could handle. Swallowing the lump in my throat, trying to steady my voice, I turned to Anthony. "Do you think Dante found him yet?”Anthony's jaw flexed. Of course, he didn't say it, but the fear lived in his eyes. "Dante won't stop until he does," he said, his tone unyielding. "He'll bring Jasper home."I nodded, but my nerves had finally started to come undone. "I should be out there

  • SAVING MY MAFIA BOSS   Silenced

DANTE'S POVI watched Camilla sleep, her arms wrapped protectively around Jasper. Her face was serene, but there was something in the way she cuddled him that showed a residual fear that hadn't left her since we'd rescued him, it made my gut roil with emotion. I couldn't blame her; it had been too close-far too close. The thought of losing him again gnawed at me. I felt my heart constrict as I bent forward, pressing my lips against Jasper's small head. He slept on, after waking up for a brief moment. Camilla stirred but didn't wake. She hadn't let him go since I'd brought him back. I raked my fingers through my hair, fighting the urge to stand guard over them a little while longer. There was work to be done though. Somebody had tried to take my son from me, and I wanted answers. I wanted to know who dared make that move.I emerged out of the room and closed the door softly behind me. My feet went downstairs with a deliberate, measured air. Save for the creaking of the floorboards ben

TOM'S POV"Imbeciles!" My voice boomed in the darkened room, my fist connecting with the nearest table as I glared malevolently at the men across from me. They hunched their shoulders when my hand came up to strike again; my anger was boiling over. "You had one job, one lousy job, and you couldn't even get that right!”The tall one, the one who had a busted lip and a thin physique, spoke in a low mumbling tone as he forwarded his feet. "Boss, it wasn't our fault," he muttered. "Dante…he showed out of nowhere. We don't know how he found us. We were at the outskirts, miles away from the city. We covered every trace. I swear.""Dante. Dante!" I spat the venom momentarily dissolved by a tide of anger at every mention of his name. How often would this be a thorn in my side? How often would he steal victory from me after it seemed so close? I grasped the man by the collar, hauling him inches from my face. "You were supposed to be hiding, fool. Chapter 171: A Second ChanceCamilla's PovStanding before me was the woman that I once thought was dead. She stared at me. Her steely resolve faltered to tears glistening in her eyes."What did you just call me?" shaking she whispered "Mom? Do...do you know me?"I swallowed hard, my stomach twisted up with nerves. "Yes, I know you," I said, and I could barely keep the shaking out of my voice. "I grew up seeing your picture in my parent's house. They told me you were my biological mother… but that my father, John, killed you. I—I thought you were dead.”“Who were the parents who raised you?” she questioned with a stern expression.“Your brother, Benson, and his wife, Olivia.” Carol's face crumpled, and the sight caught at my chest. She shook as she extended her hands toward me. "Camilla…my daughter. I—I had no idea.""Mom," I whispered. "You were alive, all these years. And with that, consumed with sobs, she pulled me into her arms tightly. It was as though all that noise going on a

Dante's POVThe air hung heavy in the room. Ella sat on the ground at the center of the dimly lit basement, her face a mask of defiance though bruises colored her pale skin. I was leaning casually against the table with Ella's phone in my hand, observing her."You're going to prove stubborn to the end, aren't you?" I said icily. She sneered, her swollen lip curling in defiance. "You'll get nothing from me, Dante."Alex was leaning against the doorframe, his arms folded over his chest as he regarded Ella. "We've tried every method. She's either too loyal or too scared."I clenched my fist. The image of Anthony pulling strings behind her seemed seared into my brain. "Or both," I muttered. The phone buzzed on the desk, and I sprang up, and picked it up-the flashing unknown number danced across the screen. Alex took another step closer, taut."Answer it," he said.I nodded and took it to my ear but didn't say anything. The other line was silent too. And then I just waited. The silence hun

  • SAVING MY MAFIA BOSS   169: THE RELATION

Camilla's POV"Dante, you need to sit down for this," Alex said. His voice came out measured, and I could feel the weight of it. Even Dante's eyes seemed to fill with tension though he leaned against the pillows, he looked much better than this morning, but the body still wasn't up and working just yet.I sat on the edge of the chair beside him, watching as the flicker of every emotion crossed his face. My heart could be pounding against my chest, and I wasn't about to show evidence of it."What's wrong?" Dante asked more like jabbed.Alex gave a quick glance my way before he turned back to him. "Ella faked her pregnancy."His face contorted further, a scrunched-up mess as his gaze soured into an accusing scowl. "What?”"She bribed the doctors," I said. "Also the one that diagnosed and confirmed your condition the first time, the doctor knew about the poisoning but gave us a wrong diagnosis on purpose.” The silent seconds ticked over before Dante's hands actually fisted. "Why? What

Camilla's POV"You're positive she went inside?" I whispered, clenching the steering wheel tightly. I was staring into the entrance of the hospital, my nerves heightened.Alex's voice scratched in my earpiece, firm but wary. "Positive. She just went in. Do you want to back up?” I bit my lip, my fingers dancing on the wheel. "No. Go back home and keep an eye on Dante. It's something I need to deal with myself. Weeks of suspicious behavior on Ella's part had set warning bells ringing in my mind, and today I was going to finally confirm what my gut had been screaming at me all along.I pulled my coat tighter against the biting cold and stepped out of the car. The air was sharp, that kind of chill that burrowed deep in your bones, but I didn't notice. My attention was razor-sharp as I walked briskly across the parking lot and into the warm, sterile lobby of the hospital.Keep your head down. Act normal. The soft chime of the elevator doors slid open, releasing me onto the fourth floor,

Camilla's POV My breath caught as I watched Dante slumped against the headboard, hacking into his lungs. A bit of blood trickled from between his lips and onto his palm and down his hand, spilling onto the sheets. My heart boomed in my chest loud enough to block everything else."Dante!" I shrieked, scrambling onto the bed beside him. "What's going on?”His head swung once in a poor attempt at shaking. "I. I don't know," he spoke in low tones.I grabbed a towel, pressing it to his mouth in hopes of halting the stream of blood while my hands violently shook. "Don't speak. Just breathe. I'm going to call Alex," I said, reaching for my phone. It rang once, and then Alex answered."Camilla? What's going on?""Get here! Now!" I ordered. "Get a doctor, the one that knows what he's doing. Dante is coughing out blood!""What? Is it-""As soon as possible, Alex!" I cut him off, hooking the disconnect button.Dante's hand clutched mine weakly, his eyes searching for mine. "Camilla. Camilla's POVI stirred the coffee in my mug, my gaze darting to Dante, who sat on the bed edge, rubbing his temples. He was pale, far too pale. The composed veneer he always wore slumped in exhaustion."You don't look good," I said, placing the mug on the nightstand and sitting beside him.Dante let out a sigh and leaned back against the headboard. "I just need some sleep, Camilla. That's all.""No, it's not," I said, laying a hand on his forehead. He wasn't warm, but his skin felt clammy. "You have been pushing yourself too hard. You look sick, you are going to see the doctor.""I'm fine," he muttered, waving me off. “I don't fall sick.”"Dante, stop being stubborn," I snapped. "If you're fine, then just humor me. Let me take you to the hospital."Before he could disagree, a knock was heard at the door. I gave him a pointed glance before crossing the room and wrenching the door open. There she was, standing with her luggage in hand and looking between regret and resolutions swimming

  • SAVING MY MAFIA BOSS   165: THE FATE REMINDER

Camilla's POVThe chill of the night leaned against my skin as I watched Dante's car and a few other cars following him disappear into the distance. Something wasn't quite right with it; it sat in my belly like a weight of bad news. The gestures had been measured, urgent-unnatural. Dante just wasn't one to go off without a scheme in his pocket, and experience told me his schemes came with danger clinging to them like an over-attached lover.I slid into my car, grasping the wheel. "What are you up to now, Dante?" I muttered under my breath.I hung back, careful to stay several car lengths behind. The road opened up before me, twisting and turning into a secluded area. My headlight was off, guided by the dim light of their tail lights.A place where they had stopped gave me the heebie-jeebies; it was dark, isolated, and quiet except for the rustling of leaves in the wind. I could feel my pulse as I drove a distance away and got out of the car.I dropped into a crouch, quiet, and made my

Dante's POVThe only noise within the study room was the whir of machinery around me, all watching and waiting for something to happen. I leaned back in my chair, peering up at the screen in front of me displaying Kate's position. She was sitting in one of the rooms, completely unaware of the bug within her phone as she ran nervous fingers through her hair."You've been watching her every day, you really think he'll call her?" Alex asked, standing behind me."He will," I said, my tone cold with certainty. "Anthony's too smart to leave without trying to tie up his loose ends. And Kate? She's the weakest link."Alex ceased pacing and faced me. "Do you trust her?"I looked at him. "Trust her? No. But guilt makes people do some pretty unpredictable things. She'll lead us to him.”The moment I'd stopped talking, her phone flared to life. My heart quickened, I sat up, gesturing for Alex to quiet. Kate reached for it gingerly and answered."Hello?" she whispered, and the word shook. There wa

Ella's POVI was seated cross-legged in the plush chair in the guest house; the only sound was that of the air conditioner humming away in the dark. I had been staring for minutes on end at the phone in my hand as if it held all the answers I needed. Anthony's name flashed across the screen, I'd been waiting to hear from him for a while now. I answered immediately. "Anthony," I said smoothly, careful that the eagerness didn't leak into my voice. "What a surprise."His voice came through sharp and urgent, and for once betrayed his façade of calm. "Ella, how are things going? Has there been any progress?"I let a small, appeasing smile slide onto my face as my eyes strayed to the window where, below me, sprawled the estate. Dante's empire was heady to look upon, and for the first time, I was inside. Well, it had taken years of planning. "It couldn't go any better," I replied, my tone airy but edgy. "I have gotten closer to Dante, and he has started trusting me again.”"And Camilla?" H
