Scarlett Miller
A smile graced my lips as I saw a young girl wrapped in her father's arm. He swept her hair back from her ears and swung her above his head.
The sight felt so pure and familiar that for a moment it almost made me forget about that part of my life which I always wanted to erase.
Tring….Tring...Tring...Tring…
A sound interrupted my thoughts, which automatically averted my sight towards the source. Moreover, it was enough to break my trance and knock me with the reality back.
Caller ID showed Mr. Larry, my mom's lawyer but I was a bit astonished, ‘Why was he calling me?’ I thought.
‘Was everything fine?’ I kept wondering.
Before I would have ended up assuming things, I saw the newspaper in my lap, 24 June. Now everything started making sense.
How irresponsible I had turned into; today was the final hearing. A final ending of all the sufferings of mine and mom. I yearn for things to go well.
Without any next thundering thought, I kept the cold screen against my ears.
***************************
Me: Give me the GOOD NEWS already. Only three words I want to hear WE HAVE WON.
I waited for him to continue but there was only silence. I started panicking.
Me: Just say, we have won and from now onwards, we have nothing to do with that man.
Mr. Larry: Sorry Scarlett, But he still sticks to his very same condition till that, we can't do anything.
That's where I stopped breathing. Not this time.
Me: You are one of the best lawyers, find a way. Get us free from him.
Mr. Larry: An only option has been discussed with you, but you denied it. Still, one thing you can do, have a little conversation with him. After all, he is your father….
Before he could complete his statement, rage took over my senses and I yelled back,
"Don't ever address that man as my father, do you get that? Neither today nor tomorrow he will have me at his side; this is what he wants. Isn't it?
Let it be now. Tell him to stay away from me and my mom.” and I hung up in utter disappointment and rage.
***********************************************
That man was my dad and certainly was my hero. He wasn't perfect, we weren't either. But I & mom was his family, he didn't think about us once. The only thing that hurts me is I’d loved him as much as I’d hated him today, hadn't I?
“ Mam, we have reached.”, those words hit me with actuality. I stepped out of the car and signaled my driver to take it back.
Once again, that man won. Once again he proved that money, power, and status that's what matters but even we are no lesser mom is a well-known fashion designer but again that businessman power overtook us every time.
“To make you lost, I need to play the same game now. “
I've been studying business for this very reason. Whatever and however to make the ends meet, I need to work very hard to match up to his level.
While surrounded by my thoughts, I reached near the college entrance and in a sudden moment I was taken aback by the breathtaking hug; finally, this is what I needed.
No medicine is better than this to cure my disturbed mind and that unknown ache at that moment.
An unknown relief took over my senses. Nobody can comfort me better than her.
Everything was incompletely complete now.
"Thank you, Carlos,” I whispered.
The only missing part of our trio was Daniel, he was being missed equally but this is what used to happen when your best friend is already up with studies and takes up the responsibilities of his family business.
I must say, he is the only sensible person among me, him and Carlos. But we complete each other. It is always meant to be ‘us’, we three. Our trio completed three of us in every way.
"Aren't you supposed to pick up your best friend from the airport?" Carlos asked while faking anger.
"I thought Daniel would but wait a minute I had even called him and asked him to do this job. Where the hell....?" but my words vanished by her never-ending rant.
"Don't even take the name of that jerk in front of me. “she whined.
He is ever ready with his nonsense, I am warning you; we should stay away from these corporate practicing guys unless we will have to face this throughout our lives." She laughed.
"First of all, what is this corporate practicing guys? “ I closed my eyes while stopping my laughter.
Let me tell you our Carlos, is popular in using weird terms and definitely for her self-made dictionary.
"You don't know corporate practicing guys, geez Scarlett.” She spoke over dramatically.
"No! You tell me.” I locked my arms and turned towards her.
"The way people practice religions, the same way these guys practice business as their religion.” She tightly smiled.
“I knew it. It must be another nonsensical word of yours.” I started walking away.
“Don't forget that even your father is a well-known businessman." I playfully completed it.
"Are you forgetting about your dad? Business is in our blood darling." She reverted, fading away a smile from my face which she realized later.
No one has ever traveled in my mind all day except him. I don't forget him for a second and never will be. Who is he? Just my father, the one I just took all my mind and power to cut out of life.
"I am so sorry Sky.” She immediately turned me back.
She was apologizing to me as a baby, not to make her feel guilty anymore. I smiled back.
We immediately made our move towards our class where we all were going to be allotted with our final year practical business communication project.
For that, we will be going to work under well-known business firms. For everyone else, it was a project, but for me, it's a chance and a step closer to my goal.
The business world is a mirage. There's always much more than what we can see. There's much more it can offer us than what it has already given.
I gleamed with the idea of being a permanent resident in that foreign business land.
"Mrs. Newal is it compulsory to do?” One of our classmates asked the assistant professor.
I and Carlos immediately got alerted about her coming words.
“It's fifty-fifty criteria. To get your degree, you have to pass the Internship program with a project report and even you need to pass the exam at the end of the semester.” She complied.
We understood its significance.
“Tomorrow, even one of you will be allotted the company's campus that has been chosen for each one of you.” She stood up.
“Mrs. Newal, directors of the approached companies have arrived. The Campus Chancellor demanded your presence in the auditorium.” One of the clerks informed her.
“Which corporations are being approached?” I asked Carlos.
“The one who is going to write our GPAs.” She laughed.
Suddenly I felt a weird feeling, like the things I was trying to control were moving out of my hand like sand.
But I’m Scarlett Miller if things won't move according to me this time. I will turn it's direction towards me by hook or by crook.
"Which corporation is in your mind?” She asked me.
“Any except one.” I sternly replied. She knew I would be okay with any place at the time it kept me away from that man.
“My dad can help us if you want.” She hesitantly completed.
"Wait! Even Daniel can help us. Jeez, we can ask him for help.” She excitedly jumped.
“No.” I started speaking but she stopped me.
Let's collect our assignments from reception. I shrugged her.
"Here's my Student ID,” I forwarded my card to Mr. Brown our administrator.
"Scarlett Miller, wait for a moment.” He replied while making entries on his desktop.
I nodded and started scrolling randomly on my cell phone.
"Sky,” Carlos whispered.
I didn't turn towards her. I knew she might be again drooling another guy standing in a row. I wasn't in such a mood. After her numerous failed attempts she jerked my hand.
“Scarlett Miller, your dad.” She yelled in a slow tone.
I shook my head again. “It's inconceivable that he'd come here for no reason,” I spoke.
"Think, Scarlett. You're looking over something wildly obvious." She replied.
"What's that?" Did I ask?
"You." She blurted out.
"Me?"I said in a surprised tone.
"Yes," said Carlos. "You're underestimating your father, I guess.”
I need to do something. I can't afford to lose this already losing battle. Not anymore.
But the part that scares me.....
To be continued…..
Till the next time

Eric Winslet"Time changes everything” that's what everyone says. But still, it seems like yesterday when our breakfast was meant to be in a college canteen.
Scarlett Miller
Scarlett MillerI was shocked that would be an understatement. What had happened minutes ago? Was it real? The man I just saw had kissed me in front of this whole media world. When his insistent mouth parted my shaking lips, sending wild tremors along my nerves, evoking me from all the sensation I had never known and now I am capable of feeling that.I realized then that it should not have happened. 'I can't do this.'I lic
Eric James WinsletA lot had happened in just a few minutes, I was afraid that may not the deal might be called off. At this moment neither I nor Winslet Industries afford to lose.Thankfully, it isn't. Despite the stunts pulled by that girl, her name..What was that?Mhmm...yes! Scarlett. Still, I need to keep an eye on her. The worst, she had listened to all my and Mr. Anderson's conversation. One thing that needed to be appreciated is that she is a smart and instant mover who had recorded everything on her cell phone without wasting any time.It could
Eric James Winslet"Then let me show you how it's done," I said in a slow tone. The girl who slapped me an hour ago, the same girl who called me a thief and was busy being obscene to me is asking me for a dance.Strangely, I thought I started knowing her well, but right now I think I had seen some change in her eyes.I had not yet lost a feeling of wonder, and delight, that this delicate moment was holding."I am asking you again, will you dance with me, Mr. Winslet?" She broke my tranc
Scarlett MillerMondayMemories of Saturday night still manifested slowly from the back of my brain. Every detail hammering my heart like a lost battle. The knock on the door broke my trance."Miss Scarlett, Maria is looking for you." A soft voice graced me."Will be there in a few minutes." I retorted and dismissed her.
Eric James WinsletFor the first time too, I observed that cladding figure in front of me; she was staring at me with her dark brown orbs full of rage, her beautiful lips ready to curse me any time soon. Her face is so beautiful not to forget she was looking naive and fierce."Don't go with how she is looking, Eric." I reminded myself. She was staring at me. I smirked and thought let's have the luxury of silence before the upc
Eric James WinsletI cut the call and turned on the news channel. I was flabbergasted what I saw; what I heard took away my sight.I threw away my cell phone. This can't be true.Slightly the door of the cabin opened," There she is, I am not going to leave her now, not at any cost."
Scarlett Miller's POV After two months "Miss Miller, to the time you won't pay the bills. We can't continue the treatment." A voice broke the train of my thoughts. "Bills? But I have cleared them a week ago." I was baffled by the sudden endorsement. "Yes! You did. But it was of last month. This month needs a clearance right away." She sternly replied while forwarding the papers in my hand. I certainly opened them right away. "$20 million." I whispered and traced the figure. By no means Its possible to clear the whole debt. My lips were trembling and tears were flowing through my eyes. "Now what will happen? How will I manage to do this?" I turned back to the glass door and saw a man lying between the tubes and machines in the bed. How merciless life can be. I was taught this in these last two months. There was not a single day that I had slept peacefull
Scarlett Miller's POVKeep your voice down when you talk to my daughter." I heard a loud voice behind me. I sighed when I saw mom and dad standing there. I ran in her direction and hugged her tightly. It was the time when tears didn't stop falling from my eyes. Dad wiped my tears from the back of his palm. Then he hugged me tightly. Before today I never felt such relief while having them beside me. These people have mentally tortured me."Now you get ready for all the consequences." My dad spoke while caressing my hair."Dad," I shooked my head to stop him. He took my hand in his and dragged me inside where everyone was standing then.I saw mom was also following us. But this time I knew if they try to do something. They are going to get an equal and passionate reply.Andrew came in my dad's direction and stood besides him."Calm down uncle." He started but dad showed him his palm."Since last fifteen minutes me and
Scarlett Miller's POV"Don't worry. Let me call Daniel." And without listening to me once she hung up the call."Your fear is right. Something worst is going to happen." I heard a voice from behind me.I turned around to see Jenna standing there. I was baffled after seeing her like this. But she moved towards me unhesitatingly."How are you?" She came and kept her hand around my cheek. The wind was harshly blowing and it was making trees rustle. A cold breeze stirred my hair at that moment. I closed my eyes to feel that freshness on my skin."I am alright." When my eyes didn't match my words. She frowned at me."Come here." She extended her hand in my direction.I was baffled at first and when she encouraged me to do. I did.She took me to the benches there under the green shield. Both of us sat there. For a while, there was complete silence. Nothing came out of my mouth so as her. But I was truly enjoying the solace.
Scarlett Miller's POVHow do I forget always, you don't know how to stay in a family?" He stopped. My breath was hitched. I was really wishing that he couldn't speak something stupid."For that, you need to have one. A person who lived in a broken family. How do they understand their value?" He didn't fling at those words which he was speaking."What did you say?" For a second I thought, I was misunderstanding him.I was always told that not everything's perfect. I knew that. And I knew it's all right to have a little bit of regret every once in a while. Because I was regretting every bit of standing at this place. I was regretting being in someone's life who didn't worth it."Why are you so astonished?" Grandma came forward while breaking the chains of my thoughts."When it's between him and me. I don't appreciate anyone's interference." I sternly replied."What do you mean interference? I am his grandma. I have full right t
Scarlett Miller's POVI looked at the screen and sighed. A pair of eyes were throwing daggers in my direction. I turned around looking at him."Scarlett, aren't you too naive or maybe stupid as well?" He said those words all of a sudden while making me all confused."What do you mean by that?" I asked him."Nothing. Grandma might be waiting for us. Come." He uttered.I didn't move initially I was hesitant to say that I didn't want to come there and face all of them already. When I didn't move he looked at me amusingly, "What happened?" He frowned at me.I ignored him and walked towards the bed. I sat on the edge of it."I don't want to come downstairs." I simply said. With that, I flopped onto the bed on my stomach and felt a little relaxed. I didn't want to lie down but I was just hungry and tired at the moment."What's this now?" He came forward and pulled my arm to make me sit.I was fondling with my finge
Scarlett Miller's POVThe sound of water pouring on the roof woke me up. It was raining again, a slanting gray sky was visible. I very carefully levered up an eyelid and shut it again fast.I buried my head under the darkness of the pillow and pretended it was night. Although it was not. I couldn't see the point of getting up. I truly had nothing to look forward to.After few minutes I got up feeling sluggish and tired. I tried to stand up from the bed, that's when I felt a sharp shooting pain. My head was throbbing.I stood up looking out of the window with a dark and harsh taste of wine still in my mouth. I was feeling dizzy and drowsy. When I saw out of the window, memories of last night manifested slowly from the back of my mind."For now I don't want anything. The only thing I want is 'you'. Then be it for a night "I remembered those words. Oh no! What the hell I have done more? I covered my face with my palms.Every new de
Eric James Winslet's POV"Let's play a game. Tonight let's prove each other. Only you and me. Forget everything!" I said that while kissing the corners of her lips.It was the only way left now. If I wanted to keep her by my side, then it's the only way. I tried everything, but I think now this is the last resort otherwise she will be away from me tomorrow.I know she thinks it's lust, then let it be. But this time I am very selfish to even let her go. No matter what, it takes me to stop her."Eric," she tried to move away.I traced my fingers at the outline of her face. She closed her eyes and was biting her lips to stop any sound from her mouth."Are you in?" I whispered in her ear.She opened her eyes instantly, there were hints of fear in her eyes. But she smirked, "Let's see." I was bending down but she pushed me a little. "Not here."Her fingers rubbed my lower lips. "Let's go." She signaled towards the room.I
Scarlett Miller's POVWhen she didn't reply, I gestured to her that I will still speak. "But this man, your grandson wanted me. Let me correct myself wanted to get the shares of my dad's company. Contract marriage, you know?""Contract marriage?" She prompted.Steady and loud footsteps came in my direction. I knew who the person can be. But trust me, I bother less."Scarlett, What are you saying?" Grandpa was the first one to come out of this shock."Grandpa let me...," Eric tried to intervene but he cut him off in between. "No! Let me talk to her." He didn't look in his direction but moved towards me.Apparently, I didn't want him to know about everything like this. But they didn't have left any choice for me."Is it true?" He waited for me to speak. I looked at Eric who was throwing daggers and his eyes were warning me about all the consequences."What?" I tried to act innocent. Although, I was well aware that it isn't possible
Scarlett Miller's POV"You know sometimes I think." I was hesitant, "The only thing that stops you from getting away from me is..." I looked everywhere but at him."Is?" He said in a husking tone."Is lust. I may feel for you. But as you made it clear you don't feel for me. Then this only means lust." I signaled him towards his hands."Lust? Seriously Scarlett?" He looked at me with accusing eyes."I said what I felt," I tried to sound as calm as I could."Fantastic," He rubbed his chin and looked at me."I didn't say anything wrong. Did I?" I asked."Enough!" In one moment, I collided against his chest as he took hold of my arms and pulled ne against him angrily."Stop this. Stop this nonsense. Do you understand?" He tightened his hold as he yelled angrily."Or what?" I retorted. I knew I was triggering him."Don't disregard our relationship. " He sneered as he shoved me towards the entrance."Relat
