I was running toward the backside of the event ground. I could still hear the crowd cheering and oohing over the contenders. They were all really excited but no one probably saw that Cole wasn’t there. That stupid guy disappeared from the screen before they even crossed the first level. I was running as Riley followed me. I didn’t want her here but she just won’t listen. 

“Go back, Riley. I am warning you!! My head is already fucked up because of that stupid dumb guy. I don’t want to worry about you too.”

“But I could help you. I am not letting you go there alone.!” She protests. Riley always has been a protective person and I love her for that but right now I need her to be safe. To convince her I had to stop and face her.

Riley huffed as she caught her breath but I didn't have time that’s why I said, “look! If you really want to help me then go back to the ground and call me as soon as you see Cole.”

“you know, He could be just using some another path Thia,” she said.

I sighed “Please Riles, try to understand. I need you safe. You could help me by doing that. I promise I will be safe too, you know me. You know I am better than the most.” 

After hearing my plea my sister huffed in defeat but nodded at me and finally turned back to go to the ground. 

As soon as I saw Riley go back, I break into a full run and shifted. I asked the nearby birds for Cole and all they said was he was here. It was not enough. I was just about to cross the first level when I heard a painful growl. I couldn’t decide if it was Cole or not but one thing I knew for sure, I needed to help whoever was in pain. Following the sound of the growls, I reached the small hill valley near the first level and looked down the gap between the two mountains. It was Cole, It was definitely Cole in his beast form. I could see his dark fur all dirty down the hill, lying there. He was whimpering and growling. Shit! He must have been trying to jump between the two mountains but the gap was too wide for a beta wolf like Cole. He’s just 16 damn it. I knew it, it was too soon. I have to help him. 

I was still in my beast form so I howled my presence to him, to show him comfort, to tell him his best friend is here. I knew one of his bones must have broken for him to lie so still and not shifting back. But what I couldn’t understand is what he was doing here. Cole was way smarter than this, smart enough to not chase such shortcuts. Urghh! I don’t have time for this, either I have to bring help or-or to bring him up myself. I looked down the valley once again and howled to him to see if he was able to shift. In reply he only whimpered, telling me he clearly can’t. my mind was numb with panic but not wanting to waste another minute, I jumped but before I could take the leap, my arm was in a restrain. In a hold tight enough to make me wince. I frowned and turned to meet an angry royal blue pair of eyes. Aaron and he was definitely pissed.

“What are you doing here?” I questioned him, still confused by his presence and guilty of momentarily forgetting about Cole too. 

“Me? What about you. You are indeed an idiot, were you really going to jump and drag a wolf twice of your size?” Aaron’s words were true enough to leave me speechless. It was stupid indeed but I couldn’t just stand here. 

“I could have managed.” 

“Just shut up Cynthia and stay back. I will bring him upstairs and don’t you dare follow me or I swear I will make you regret it.” He bit and shifted to jump down. 

I was still shocked at his words and terrified for Cole that I didn’t even notice when Aaron jumped and brought Cole up. He was ordering Cole to shift while clutching his left paw in a grip. Wow! That was fast but then Aaron is our King, he is indeed the strongest wolf on our island. No matter how far we have come as a species but our animal instinct still rides us the most hence our leader needs to be the strongest to deserve the title, to deserve the respect one gets with the title and Aaron has always deserved it. But if he mates with me I will become a weakness and that’s what terrifies me the most. He's choosing his title and not me. 

“Do it, Murray. I am holding it, this will not hurt that much just do it now and wait for a healer or risk staying in this state for weeks.” It was clear my mate was trying to help Cole but he didn’t know how stubborn my best friend can be. It is only at times like this I seriously wish that we were just like immortals and could heal faster in our beast state but nope, that privilege is also reserved for those blue-eyed snobs. 

“King Aaron, please let me- ’’

“You stay back! Had you not be an idiot and came straight to me instead of being all high mighty we wouldn’t be here. I would have simply tasked Beta-Force-’’

“King Aaron! With all due respect, can we not do this right now?”

He growled and nodded. I know I was the wrong one here, mind you only partially but that doesn’t mean he will scold me here and right now. 

“Come on, Murray try.” He said as Cole kept on whimpering and groaning in pain.

“Cole, please try, you are the strongest guy I know,” I said in order to encourage Cole. Guys are very dramatic when it comes to their power and ego so I was definitely trying to hit his ego so again he can show false bravado and shift. I still can’t believe he took part in the race. 

Beside me Aaron was squatting down to hold Cole’s broken paw in place and hearing my words he scoffed, making me roll my eyes. See! Guys and their ego.

“Cole! Come on buddy.” I pleaded as Cole groaned the loudest and pushed to shift back. After two tries, he was back to human. Seeing him back, I went to hug him but again I was restrained by Aaron. Urghh! I am starting to feel like a prisoner. 

“What?” 

“His arm is broken, you could harm him, little princess.” Aaron simply stated as he picked up Cole in his arms. It was a little funny but I restrained myself from laughing. 

“So I am back to a princess now?” I teased feeling a headache forming. Too much stress does that to me.

Before Aaron could reply, two officers of Beta-Force came to us.

“King Aaron.” They bowed their head in greeting while bringing me back to my reality. Aaron is literally the most important person on this Island and here I was treating him like a-a guy my age.

“Zackery and Shaun, take this boy to our royal healer’s clinic. Make sure he gets the best treatment.” Aaron ordered as one of the officers came forward and took Cole in his arms. I know Cole was really tall but these guys were literally giant in front of him. I was actually feeling bad for Cole. This will cause snickers for him in the school. The only saving grace he had was that he was out in pain and will not witness these embarrassing if not comic scenes.
