➳ Pernwél
Alpha Jake looked at me and pointed to the outlines of the field that were marked with a white line.
“They are putting up the obstacle course,” he said faintly, almost whispering. “First we run a lap or two to warm up.”
I was looking at all the werewolves working in perfect sync, but when they saw their leader, they bowed their head to the side slightly, revealing their necks while uttering “Good morning, Alpha.” in unison.
“Good morning Grey Moon pack.” He bellowed, so everyone on the field would hear him. It was a powerful voice and he radiated that aura again. I presumed it was what made him the leader. “Pack, this is Pernwél.” He said gesturing to me. “She will join us today.”
They looked at me with questions burning in their eyes, but they didn’t ask anything. I don’t think they were used to strangers walking in on their training sessions, but they didn’t dare question their Alpha.
“Okay.” Alpha Jake spoke with authority, clapping his hands together. “Let’s start shall we?”
Everyone took their places and we ran around the obstacle course they had laid out.
As soon as I started running I felt in my element. Feeling the wind dancing around my skin and taking in the soft warm glow of the morning sun giving me an energy boost.
I jumped over blocks in swift motions and crawled on my belly pushing forward with my elbows through round pipes. I ran like I was used to in the forest. The werewolves around me were fast too and I was content that I could keep up with them.
Obviously, they were bigger built than I, but I remembered they all had a wolf spirit inside, like Alpha Jake had explained to me yesterday, making them fast and strong, in harmony with it.
Not so different from my species, I thought, they were in symbiosis with their animal selves and we lived in symphony with nature. Each species thriving on the mystical forces Mother Earth provided us.
When we finished the course, and I wasn’t one of the last to cross the finish line, I felt elated. My muscles welcomed the activity and my skin was glistening with sweat.
“God job everyone!” Alpha Jake’s voice greeted us in the middle of the field. He was the first to end the obstacle course and seeing him do it, he made it look easy. “Prepare to spar!” He shouted.
I looked around and saw that the people around me partnered up and separated, leaving space between every team.
I didn’t know anyone around here except for the lady in the kitchen and Alpha Jake, the latter one giving us instructions. Kind of nervous I searched the field for someone I could partner up with.
My eyes met with the brown ones of Alpha Jake noticing my distress and he walked towards me. In a couple of long strides with his muscled legs he stood beside me.
“I’ll partner up with you, if you don’t mind.” He said, raking his hand through his messy hair.
I nodded. I was glad he wanted to team up with me so I wouldn’t have to be the awkward new girl who no one knows. Even though he makes me nervous in a whole other way.
“Beta Darren.” He motioned for the person who found me in the woods. “I’ll spar with Pernwél. Can you take the rounds?”
“Sure thing, Alpha.” He gave a quick nod with his head toward us and left to tend to the other teams.
We took a defensive stance facing each other. Even if he was bigger than me I knew I could potentially be faster than him. I say potentially, because I haven’t been around werewolves long enough to have an idea.
“I’m more comfortable using weapons to fight.” I said softly, looking up to his handsome features.
“Here we spar as humans and do patrols in wolf form.” He explained. “When our body is strong and trained for battle, our wolf spirit gains more power as we shift. Doing this type of exercise we build muscle and enhance traits like speed and tactics.”
“I understand.” I replied looking around and seeing the teams lounge at each other using various techniques to dodge and attack.
“I’m going to let you start,” he said, lifting his brow up in question, “so I can see what you can do. All right?” He made a gesture with his palms upwards moving his fingers indicating to attack him.
Being a warrior all my life I couldn’t stand to be weak. If they trained like this and I was stuck here for the time being it wouldn’t hurt to keep up with them. I definitely could learn new techniques and stay focused.
I took in his frame and tried a swift blow to his right rib cage. He dodged it. He was fast, but I didn’t use everything. I was observing his moves to strategize.
Repeating a sequence going for his right side, I quickly ducked and then swung my left leg with all my force to his right calve.
He blocked my leg with his arm but looked at me in a strange way. Astonishment perhaps?
“You’re fast.” He stated.
I grinned, satisfied that I surprised the leader of the Grey Moon pack.
He was going to say something as his eyes glazed over. That was weird, but my ears picked up commotion in the distance, something was wrong.
“Alpha!” someone yelled from the other side of the training field. “Rogue attack on the east border!”
Alpha Jake started running in the indicated direction and mid-run fur sprouted everywhere on his skin and transformed into the biggest wolf I had seen until this moment. His ripped clothes littered the ground and the sandy coloured fur shined in the sunlight.
There was screaming in the background. My instincts kicked in using my enhanced hearing and darted as fast as I could after Alpha Jake, picking up my bag on the way. The rest of the warriors followed suit, some remained in their human forms and others transformed into wolves, like their leader had.
I took out my daggers while running, thinking that my bow wouldn’t do much damage to big ass werewolves.
The closer I got I saw there were three rogues attacking the pack. Alpha Jake was already taking on one of them. By the looks of it, the rogues didn’t stand a chance. I thought it would be very foolish of them to attack such a well trained pack of wolves, they were greatly outnumbered.
I almost froze when I took in the appearance of one of the rogue wolves.
I had seen that matted and streaked with blood fur before.
It was the one staring back at me in the reflection of the water in my nightmare this morning. It couldn’t possibly be a coincidence, the resemblance was too much, I dared say identical. I shook my head, regaining the notion of the task at hand, now was not the time to be dwelling on nightmares, even if it was freakingly similar to the reality in front of me.
The warriors in wolf form attacked the remaining two rogues while the rest of them, those still in their human form were spreading around and scoping the area for the injured.
I picked up the faint cries of a child in the distance, thanks to my good hearing, and headed in that direction. A little girl was crouching behind a tree. Tears streamed down her cheeks and she was trembling with fear.
I noticed the sound of growls and bodies smashing ying down, indicating that the menace had been eradicated. I thought of the swift approach to battle that Alpha Jake had mastered and I was very impressed by him.
Putting away my daggers I got closer to the girl.
“You’re safe now.” I softly said. “Come, I’ll take you back to the pack.”
She stood up and took my hand and we walked out of the treelines, back to the village.
🐾Alpha Jake Like every morning, except on weekends, we had pack training. Every adult wolf came to the training fields at the crack of dawn to run across an obstacle course that changed patterns every day and spar. The werewolves of my pack were very well trained and pushed harder in every way to become stronger, doing justice to being one of the best packs to ever exist. I took pride in the resilience of my people. They knew that belonging to this pack also meant having to protect the elders, children and non-warriors amongst them and fight for it very often. That entailed also the importance of training and they took it very seriously. The obstacle course built stamina and speed, keeping them focused and giving options to analyze, strategize and provide a new challenge every day. It kept them on their toes anticipating every possible outcome. I was surprised this morning that Pernwél wa
➳ Pernwél What’s wrong with me? I never used to falter and I could stay stoic and in charge of my emotions. Like it should pertain to a warrior like me. This has all been so strange. It’s like something is messing with my hormones. Maybe these strange shifters are getting to me. Sighing, I closed the door behind me as I got to my room in the packhouse. No, I said to myself, that’s not it. I’ve been on a rollercoaster of sorts the last two days, the notion that my village is gone hasn’t really sunk in yet. I’ve been too busy adapting myself to this new Realm. I jumped at the opportunity to train because it’s where I am most in my element, I’m used to it. The physical exercise was so
➳ Pernwél Alpha Jake waited for me on the porch to accompany me to where the Elders resided. We were walking there and he was going to show me around the town. I was not a prisoner anymore and I was staying here for the time being. Where else was I supposed to run off to? I was somehow excited to find out more about what happened to me, but also dreading to find out the fate of my village. I witnessed a carnage, everyone I knew was slaughtered before my eyes. The memories of the beautiful place I grew up in were tainted with the deep red colour of blood and masacre. I would never run across my ancestors' land again. ➳ PernwélI never thought I would ever see one of the ancient magic orbs like the one I was currently holding.Alpha Jake and Grandma Rose were staring expectantly at me to elaborate on the ‘memory orb’ artifact and even if I knew perfectly well that I was holding one in my hands, it was the first time I ever encountered one in my life.I read about the ancient artifacts in the Royal library. They are made by druidic magic to communicate through the ages and portals with other druids. The dusty old books were always the first to attract me and I skimmed eagerly through those pages. One of those leather bound research journals showed me drawings of the various orbs to be found across all the realms. ➳ Pernwél I have always been quite observant of my surroundings, making me catch on quickly to the hidden meanings of gestures and body language. Alpha Jake commenced telling his side of the occurrences of the last few days, leaving out some details that weren’t so clear to either of us yet. The orb and the notion of druidic magic didn’t make it into the conversation. The Elders were listening intently to their Alpha, as I hung on to his every word. He didn’t miss any details and if I noticed he omitted one, I somehow knew he had a reason behind it. He also commented on the fact that there were increased sightings of wandering rogues around the borders, culminating in an attack this morning on the East border of the pack territory.
🐾 Alpha Jake We walked back in comfortable silence to the packhouse. It had been an eventful day to say the least, and I was starving. I gazed down at the beautiful Elf that walked next to me. Her lovely words about my leadership as an Alpha of this pack had touched me deeply. Did she really think that way about me? After all that had happened, she had pulled her hood down and hadn’t pulled it back up to hide herself away from prying eyes. Her silver locks were dancing in the remaining light of the street lanterns. It made my heart skip a beat, that she was warming up to the pack and felt more comfortable around them. Deep down, I wanted it to mean that she was also opening up to me. The glances we shared and the slight touching of her hands as I cup
➳ Pernwél I was baffled. I understood Jake’s explanation but the notion of there being only one out there to match perfectly with your own, was a romantic notion that didn’t quite exist where I came from. Jake was staring deeply into my eyes and as I ran through everything in my mind that had happened over the last few odd days, I certainly had felt a pull towards him. I had just asked him if I was his fated mate and he was hesitating in giving me his answer, but somehow I already knew it. We were fated mates in this Realm and the fact that the Moon Goddess put us together had a higher meaning. Even if I didn’t have a wolf spirit to connect with his one, she was under the understanding that I would complete him

I had failed him, by loving another man.“More power?” I tried throwing him something he would be interested in, maybe I could offer him a spell or a brew that could make him happy, a reason to spare Viggo’s life.“I have everything I need.” He snarled. “And if I would want something else I would take it with a snap of my fingers.” He hissed against the skin of m

🐾 Alpha Jake Three years had passed since the dreadful attack from Selmor, and a peaceful time had come to the Grey Moon pack. The ancestor, Darach, the oak tree from Agmysther had been the only thing that remained in our Realm. Except for the Druid, Grendal and his wife’s body that stayed behind as well. We lost many pack members that day and had a proper rite burial by the magical oak tree that was now a part of our land. The magical powers from the Third Realm had left the area and hadn’t returned, which we all were grateful for. Our pack rebuilt and repaired damages in the following months after the war. We lost over twenty pack members and we tried our best to provide solace for their mates and children. It was hard, it always is after a battle, but this one took more away than we had bargained for. 🐾 Luna Pernwél The moment that I regained consciousness in Jake’s arms I knew there was something wrong with me; a piece missing. I didn’t feel the Awen flow through me anymore. I felt drained, like a current of energy had struck through me, leaving me empty. My eyes fluttered against Jake’s chest, he had shifted back into his human form to carry me and I couldn’t recall for a moment what had just happened. I opened my eyes to see the blue sky above our heads, the sight startled me and I tried to wriggle free from Jake’s arms. He wouldn’t have it and he clutched me closer to him. “How do you feel?” He spoke with a sad raspiness to his voice. His emotions of worry whipped around me, striking me with their icy shards. “I don’t know.” I responded, finding my own voice. “The l
🐾 Alpha Jake I never had encountered such creatures in my life as the ones that flanked Selmor in the back of the battle field. Pernwél invaded my thoughts over mindlink explaining that they were rare creatures from Agmysther, mountain giants from the North. My breathing cut inside my throat and I struggled to swallow the ball of nerves down. These creatures from another Realm, the mountain giants, had the colour of the earth and were bare with the exception of a cloth covering their loins. Their heads reached the highest tree tops and a shudder wacked through me in the realization that the battle had taken an enormous turn in our disadvantage. While the poisoned arrows were doing their work, I noticed from my peripheral that they didn’t do the giants much harm. It seemed like everything we threw at th

🐾 Beta RuneThese last few weeks have been intense. Preparing for a new battle while carrying a pup in the beginning of the third trimester was harder than I expected. I wasn’t as physically strong as the female pack warriors, but I wasn’t fighter material. I was a healer in every sense of the word.I tried to not let fear overwhelm me. I knew that our pack was strong and that we would fight until the threat was eradicated. Grey Moon was known as one of the most brutal packs regarding training. Even though you got to know the people that ran it on a personal level, you couldn’t be in a better place. Werewolves knew Grey Moon and not to pick fights with them. Sadly, Alpha Markus did and we had to bury four pack members. I had the feeling that fighting these Dark Elves would be harder and there would be more casualties.
🐾 Luna Pernwél Everything was finally coming together. In a week we had managed to prepare so much in record time. Jake had decided to use the building next to the pack house as a storage space filling every room with the leftover materials from the attack against Cold Creek. We had everything at our disposal all under one roof. The poisoned arrows, courtesy of Rune, would be a weapon that no-one would see coming. We had created something so deadly, that one hit in the right place would see our enemy dead within minutes. It would take just a few seconds before they rolled around in excruciating pain that caused every muscle in their bodies to spasm and convulse. I handpicked the best archers and taught them what to do. With such a lethal concoction on the arrowheads, we didn’t want them to
🐾 Luna PernwélComing back to Grey Moon with both my parents in the back of the Land Rover was strange. It took me one hard fall on my bum into another Realm to find my true family, and then my real one revealed itself. It had been a crazy ride and I sensed that there was a lot more to come. Now that we knew what Selmor wanted and the lengths he was willing to go to get it, we needed to come up with a strategy. One that would destroy their plans of ever returning to the Third Realm with what they want. Our first priority was
