The Unknown

Ella's POV

The soft calls of birds above me and the gentle kisses of the wind pulled me out of sleep.

I was suddenly conscious of where I was even though my eyes were closed. I could hear the sound of waves slapping against one another and a frown covered my face as I wondered where I was.

Slowly, I opened my eyes and looked to confirm that I was really at some kind of river bank with really large waves that rhythmically slapped against the bank creating a perfect backdrop to the place.

It was morning already and I realised that I must have spent the night right here. Fear tugged at my heart as an uneasiness suddenly filled me.

The land around me seemed to go on forever like a forgotten paradise with beautiful flowers growing along the path, yet I couldn't be comfortable as I was trying to figure out if this was the afterlife or if I was still in the land of the living.
